“will return to the island-not the hotel”

We should have switched hotels after the first night when we got there and the room with a balcony we had reserved was taken by the extremely rowdy large group they had in for the weekend. This group partied around the clock with loud music and shouting and we had to contact the front desk several times to get them to ask the people to quiet down and then it was not really that much more quiet. This went on for 3 DAYS until the other group left. We were told by the unhelpful front desk with a really poor service attitude "they are here to have fun". Well, so were we and being woken up at 4:30 a.m. in the morning consecutively prior to diving is NOT fun.

They have "party" boats that go out through the week and if you are on the pool side rooms you may not be able to hear them come in but if you are on the ocean front count on being woken up through the week when they come in.

We were well aware that service is slower in the islands etc...however there is a limit and plan on really long waits for food.

The rooms were ok, spartan but fairly clean. Although the 3 days w/ the big group there we did not have hot water when we took our showers.

The front desk has no clue about what there is to do on the island nor where to go. The management seemed non-existent. I really think all they care about is making as much money as possible. I emailed prior if I could set up activities upon arrival and was told yes but other than their whale watching or diving I was on my own. They did have "in house" driver of a taxi that would take you places for a really expensive price.

The housekeepers were the most helpful of the lot.

The diving was ok. Whale watching was great and the leaders of that trip were very good.

We definitely will go back to explore more of the island but will not return to this hotel. The pity is that they will continue to make money and not care about the customer and their experience. This is a shame because most of the people we met on the island were very friendly and helpful.

I was the planner for a 5 guy 5 day diving trip in Dominica. Our only mistake was choosing the Anchorage. Dominica was great. From the start things went wrong. When booking, they neglected to tell us that the restaurant was closed for renovations -- which forced us to go out for lunch after diving each day.

The diving operation was horrible. The equipment was in poor condition; with two of the wetsuits we rented having large holes and the regulators having broken mouth pieces.

The worst part is that one of our members paid for his open water dives and completed his PADI certification with their diving instructor. The Anchorage never filed the certification with PADI, so he still doesn't have his certification – despite many subsequent e-mails. We even contacted PADI, who has failed to get the Anchorage to do the right thing.

Avoid the Anchorage at all costs.

“Outstanding Dive Operation, Decent Hotel”

I've stayed here on three occasions. We went there to dive and the dive operation is outstanding. The location is excellent for diving at the south end of the island. House reef is very nice. The rooms are simple and clean. The food good, but certainly not gormet. Service, particularly the front desk, could stand some improvement. Service was a bit slow, but always friendly. Sometimes we had to ask more than once for service. It's not a perfect hotel operation, but problems were always corrected, although somewhat slowly at times. Above all, it is a magnificent island, above and below the water, and the location of Anchorage is a good place from which to adventure.

I wanted a dive package in Dominica. I found 4 hotels in the Roseau area that provided dive packages, the Fort Young, Castle Comfort, Anchorage and Evergreen.
I eliminated the Fort Young because it was away from the dive center of the island, which appears to be the Dive Dominca dive shop on the Castle Comfort property. I eventually booked with Evergreen.
However I visited all of the hotels because I had meals with divers who stayed at the other hotels.
I found that the Fort Young had the nicest property and is clearly the best hotel in the area with so many amenities. I would book there if I wanted to be pampered and catered to.
I found the Evergreen to be next best in terms of property, restaurant, and rooms. But it lacks the dive atmosphere that I wanted.
Both the Castle Comfort and Anchorage had the dive atmosphere I was looking for. Both have there own dive shop and allow unlimited diving for their shore. They also cater to dive groups.
I avoided both hotels however because of the comments that I read in trip advisor. I was mislead. Both hotels are good for visitors and great for diving. The food, rooms, service and property at both are good.
In particular, the Anchorage has recent upgrades that the comments never addressed. There are improvments everywhere. The standard rooms have new dual glazed windows, paint and bathroom tile and fixtures. The premium rooms are large with great views right over the water. I liked the brand new refrigerators and coffee machines in the rooms. And the entire place has fresh paint in very lively tropical colors. I also had the pleasure of spending time in both the upstairs restaurant and downstairs bar. Both have great views over the water. They even have the skeleton of an adult sperm whale mounted by the dive shop. It is like a mini-museum.
Although I originally booked at the Evergreen and did enjoy my stay there, I would return to this area for diving at either the Anchorage (because of its vast improvements of the rooms and property) or Castle Comfort (because of its dive atmosphere).

“Creole Festival stop-over, borderline annoying”

Anchorage Hotel & Dive Center

The Anchorage was our mid-holiday Roseau stay, in between 3 Rivers eco-lodge and Crescent Moon Cabins. Our thinking was find a non-too expensive hotel from where we could go to the Creole Festival as well as see some of the southern part of the island.

The 'superior' rooms were spacious, but pretty ugly. dark brown floor tiles, a crude bathroom and only half a fawcet in the sink. TV reception was poor but there was internet access.

I contacted the hotel directly to reserve the room, had my reservation confirmed, then unconfirmed because I was only staying two nights, not the minimum three I was told I needed. I sent an email to say I had since made other arrangements, at which they relented and honoured my booking. However, on the day of my arrival, I received an email saying that they had problems with my credit card, so my rooms were no longer confirmed.... I managed to sort that out over the phone, but the whole thing was a little unprofessional.

The highlight of the stay was a snorkelling trip down to Scott's Head when we made three stops and saw lots of marine life.
