The place was nice.. the accomodations and everything were fine. But the hotel manager tried to rip us off. I had my brother and his girlfiriend join us and I attempted to get them a room. Well the night before they arrived the person at the front desk gave us a quote of $70 per night, the next morning someone else gave us a price of $95/night and the hotel manager (by the same evening) gave us a price of $125/night. When I tried to explain to the hotel manager (who seemed to be the one behind the price hikes)... he basically told me that I paid a "special" price for my room and therefore the price kept changing for other people (which was completely bogus since I booked the package way in advance through American Airlines and it was no "special").

The manager put the initial hotel clerk (who gave us the $70 dollar price) on ther spot, was rude to his worker and made him admit that it was a mistake... This worker was clearly uncomfortable with the whole situation... I tried to talk to the hotel mangaer who was very arrogant and dismissive as if the price hikes was a figment of my imagination.

I was soo --- off that I took them accross the street to the Hotel Hispaniola where the service was better, the accomodations the same and the people were nice and accomodating. In addition, they did not attempt to give us any problems... They were happy to receive our service.

I loved staying at this hotel, service was great, everyone was very polite & friendly, clean at all times and the food was good..
I also loved the fact that they had security at all times of the day , I rented a car and we came in and out at all times of the day and it was very nice to know you had security in parking, lobby and even to get in elevators..Full security...It was within walking distance of many places, like rest. clubs and malecon a must hang out place in afternoon and sunday's all day...I loved my NEW YEAR 2005 experience at DR...

The hotel was absouletly divine! The food was superb, the servants were extremely polite, friendly and respectful (and we all know that good help is so hard to find these days)and the nightlife is full of rythm and vigor. I Discovered the first cathedral and university in the civilized western world in Santo Domingo.The colonial zone and all its splendor enchanted me. The sea is turquoise and the sand is white. The Dominican Republic has seduced me. I will be returning to the hilton this October to purchase a new summer home in the adjacent Malecon Center complex. I highly reccomend that anyone of good taste stay at this hotel.

I stayed at Hotel Santo Domingo in Dec 2002. The hotel is so elegant! Inside and Out. I just loved it! The workers are so friendly. The Italian rest is the best!!! Prices range from $8 - $22. This hotel is a great place to take photo's. There is not much in walking distance to see... We took a taxi to Colonial Zone for a day. We paid a tour guide $20. It's definately worth it!!! The sights are beautiful. The taxi driver charges $10.00 an hour. We went to a place called "El Canuco" for food. It's cheap and great! We went to a museum called the "Lighthouse". Columbus' remains are there. I wouldn't bother going to the aquarium. We were in and out in a few minutes. Great for kids. Have your driver to get your tixs for anything. They have special prices for tourist no matter where you go. Great fun!!!
