Hotel Santo Domingo could be one of the best hotels in the world. It has a great building, large rooms with a view of the sea, nice decoration by Oscar De La Renta, large swimming pool. But, a large number of small inconveniences become very unpleasant during your stay.
Our reservation had been incorrectly recorded so on arrival we were told we had a standard room not the club room we had booked and paid for. I actually never found out whether or not we got the clubroom we paid for. All the rooms looked alike to me although club rooms are 20% more expensive.
Taxis at the hotel door are 50% more expensive than similar taxis that are waiting on the street. There is no explanation but it is hard not to feel cheated by the hotel.
The concierge lady helps booking reservations but has little or no idea about the tourist sites or the restaurants in town.
A bright lighted add at the hotel entrance informs you there is a band playing every night at the bar. But, although the band is on vacation, the lighted add continues to miss inform you every day.
Some days you get your bed ready in the evening, some days you do not. Some days you get two towels, somedays only one. The business room was closed for several days during our stay with no real reason or advance notice. The breakfast buffet is nice but the service very slow. Sometimes we waited 15 minutes for coffee.
