When you arrive to El Embajador Occidental, the staff is very friendly and the check in process is fast and easy. If you´ve had reserved a Executive floor room you are headed directed to the floor and your check in is up there. The rooms are nicely set, I received a nice King Bed since I reserved a Suite on the Executive Floor, I also had a very splendid Balcony as I watched more than 200 parrots posing on an almond tree and heard them sing while sipping a glass of a nice Villa Maria Chardonnay.

The room is not over furbished, it has what you need, the bathrooms are roomy all marble, I had 2 tv sets, one in the room and one in the living room.

The hotel is located very near a very nice park called El Mirador del Sur and you can go jogging or just strolling there watching a nice sunset.

I would say El Embajador would be a 3 star hotel in a city as NY, but in Santo Domingo, knowing the other city hotels I must say El Embajador is the best hotel in town.

Any time I need a Hotel in Santo Domingo I will Choose El Embajador as my first option. However, I must say that it is kind of oriented to the business traveler.

The restaurant is very good, I would say no other hotel in the city has a restaurant like El Embajador.

I had stayed at this hotel many, many times in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Although not the cheapest hotel it does offer better than average accomodation, particularly for the business traveler. I would recommend upgrading to the 5th or even 8th floors where the facilties such as complimentary breakfast served on your floor make for an easy start to the day.

It has all the facilities a visitor on business would want, is centrally located and security is good.

My wife of 28 wonderful years is Dominican and we visit our family in Santo Domingo fairly often. Over the last 2 years we have stayed at the Embajador 8 times or so and have obviously had a good experience to have gone back so frequently. While the hotel has an interesting history and is right in the center of where we want to be in the Bella Vista neighborhood, what continues to bring us back are the people who work at the hotel. This last visit we were greeted warmly by the servers at the restaurant where you can enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in a sun bathed elegant room. The cook that morning sensed he was going to see someone he knew ("alguien familiar") so he made up a special batch of french toast and when he saw me he sent it over to our table. We always select our room on the ocean side of the hotel and this time stayed on the 6th floor where you can see the ocean from the bed, which is pretty cool. I would definitely recommend staying in one of these business type rooms. Overall I give this place a 5 star rating!

As frequent travelers, we were underwhelmed with the property. The rooms were very average (see pictures). They need updating. The restaurants did not serve very good food. The best part was the breakfast offered with the room (made to order omelets and buffet). The management was lack-luster and inconsistent with the way they treated their guests. However, there are 2 members of the front desk staff who were very hospitable and helpful.
