We paid $40 a night for a double bed room in this place. Firstly the location is great as its 15 mins walk to the old colonial zone where most of the action is. Best room is is the one at the top with sliding doors the patio with the jacuzzi which gives you some sea views as well. Note, the jacuzzi only works when it wants to (this is DR after all!). Good breakfast place is up the road in Duke Wellington Hotel.

After having a not so great experience at this hotel. The owner personally contacted me to help resolve the issue.
He was extrememly helpful and concerned with my stay.
He even offered me complimentary stays to make up for the stay I had earlier.

Sometimes it's hard for hotels to know how well they are doing, and it's good to know that this hotel cares very much about their clients and it shows.

If you want a feeling of being comfortable, know that you're well taken care of, definately try out this hotel.

One thing is for sure, you can't beat the location.

I must say....booking a hotel online without seeing it first is a scary experience. I'm so very glad my first go at it was with Juan at Maison Gautreaux. We stayed there from Aug 5-Aug 18 2007. This little home-away-from-home is truly worth the trip to Santo Domingo. The staff are fabulous.The grounds were spotless. They also had a lovely terrace on the third floor that housed a fabulous whirlpool, patio tables and chairs. I spent a few hours up there reading my book and having the occassional dip in the whirlpool to cool off(not heated obviously). I felt safe and secure with 24 hour security. Rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh linen was given everyday also. It's a house converted to a hotel and although there were no meals, there was a little "cafeteria" about 30 paces when you turn right out the front door of the hotel . The food at this place was to die for! I've eaten at many places in the DR and this little gem is truly the best local food I've ever had. I ate there everyday....sometimes twice. Prices were cheap and the food was plentiful. The hotel is less then 1 block from the Malecon and shops are all within walking distance. Across the street was a nice little place called Charlie's. He had good food also with an A/C'd lower level. If you're looking for a small intimate relaxing place to stay....Maison Gautreauz is it! Cudos to the staff there and to Juan the owner for making our stay fabulous!

I had stayed at Maison Gautreaux, in Santo Domingo. Is a nice place and the people are very friendly The atmosphere is like been at home. The prices are nice for what you receive. Try that one!!!!!!
