We took the full day excursion with Outback Safari from Punta Cana. We were picked up at our hotel on time and we arrived back by dinner time. This was a fun and educational trip with lots of laughs and free flowing beer and rum. Our lunch was fabulous! We were served the traditional Dominican food which included white rice, delicious beans and chicken cooked on open flame. At least it tasted that way, and was delicious. There are lots of photo opportunities, so remember your camera. Bring money for organic chocolate, rum, Mamajuana (a DR drink, they will explain how to make it at home), organic coffee, cigars and logo wear from Outback Safari. The Outback Safari organization is wonderful, some of there proceeds go to help the schools and poor families in the rural parts of the DR. So if you purchase their logo lear you will be helping out as well. They are very good prices, and fashionable colors as well. We also brought with us a bunch of school supplies to donate. You can leave them on the truck then they will distribute them later on. It's such a good cause. This is an excursion everyone should take...Our Guide Jose and driver Ramon were fantastic! Very funny and just made the trip that much more enjoyable. The last stop was to swim in the Atlantic and boogie board, the waves are a little more turbulent that at Punta Cana. Have Fun!

We decided to do the Outback Safari tour on Monday, Feb 9th. The reason why we did the tour was the fact that the weather was not good in the area with lots of rain and wind. It seemed like something fun to do to pass the day by keeping our mind off the weather. It turned out we were so glad we did this tour. Hector our driver and Alex our tour guide were nothing but professional. They took us aboard a big truck with cushioned benchs and seat belts. Alex taught us so much history of his home country of DR. Hector did an awesome job of navigating the hills of the mountain. We visited a local home and school. If you have a chance at going on this tour bring notebooks and pencils for the school. They will let you persoanlly give the school supplies to the teacher. They discouraged us from giving anything directly to the children as this will encourage begging. We toured a coca/ coffee plantation where we could buy coca, coffee and vanilla. We also visited a place where they demonstarated how to make the local ailment tonic "MaMa Juana". The lunch was a spread of mostly Domican dishes. We finished the tour with a swim or boogie board at the beach. I would difinetly recommend this tour to everyone.

We were in Puerto Plata from Jan 1-8. Mid-week we went on an excursion with Outback Safari. It was likely a combination of factors - great tour guide Kenny, sunny weather, reliable driver JJ, cold beer, and all Canadians on our truck - that made the excursion so fun for us. We booked online with Hola Tours before heading to Puerto Plata which was good, but it was a few bucks more than simply booking with the tour desk at the resort.

Parts of the ride were bumpy, but with Kenny talking away we hardly noticed it. This excursion takes you into the depths of the area and gives you a chance to see how it really is outside the fancy DR resorts.

One highlight of this excursion was the boogie boarding on Cabarete beach.

Remember to pack school supplies, toothbrushes, medicine, etc. for the children in the villages you drive through - we didn't know to do that and wish we had.
