“Pretty grounds and friendly staff”

Sun Village Resort & Spa Cofresi

We (husband, 10-year-old daughter and I) stayed at the Sun Village for three days at the end of March, and I have to say Sun Village exceeded expectations. I had read the reviews and while I thought it would be pretty I was pleasantly surprised at how pleasant the atmosphere and staff was. Everyone really extends themselves and you are always welcomed by a smile. For the rest see below.

GROUNDS: Fantastic. Very green and the different levels really add to the landscape. Yes, there are a lot of steps but it was very easy to use the carts. Still wouldn't recommedn it to anybody who has difficulty walking. Also liked the little plaza outside the lobby area which was great for having a quiet drink in the evening.

ROOMS: I wrote to the hotel and asked for a renovated room. We were in building 313 I think and it was a nice room. Not big but functional and it had a nice big balcony/patio. Quiet, did not notice any guests around us.

FRONT DESK/CHECK-IN: Everybody was very friendly but we did have to wait quite a while for the room. Arrived around 3 pm and still had to wait a couple of hours before the room was ready.

FOOD: The buffet was good and we always grabbed a table by the big open windows which made for a nice view. The buffet was not huge but we thought the food was good. The lamb chops that were grilled while you wait were to die for (and my husband is from New Zealand where they have "the best" lamb). Enjoyed the local food that they had one day as well. Tried the Mexican restaurant but was not crazy about it and they did not have any guacamole!

POOLS: Nice. The best part is that the pools were not crowded and the one at the highest level had fantastic views with the ocean and the mountains in the background.

BEACH: Mixed feelings. We tried boogie boarding and it almost worked but not quite. Quite cold water and well just OK.

STAFF: As I mentioned this was one of the highlights and surprises. We later travelled to Dreams in Punta Cana and the difference was noticeable. At Sun Village the experience was very personal and hospitable. The entertainment staff was also fun.

NIGHTLIFE: Well, this will be short. There wasn't much. Suited us but I would not recommend this for anyone who is interesetd in any kind of party atmosphere. Overall the resort has a "quiet" feel to it (which we very much liked:-).

My wife and I just got back from Sun Village today and can't say enough about it. From the reviews we were reading I was skeptical that the hotel might not have been the best choice but I was wrong. This place was amazing. The hill-side layout was different from what we've previously seen but it was actually very cool. There were many pools to choose from and they were all well maintained and never crowded. Finding a place to spend the day poolside was never an issue. The staff was very friendly and always greeted us with an Hola. The room looked like it was just renovated, it was gorgeous. We were upgraded from the standard room by 1 level (It was called the Supreme room) so it wasn't the standard room. The food was excellent and we never had a bad meal. We didn't see any of the events they held so we have no comment regarding the entertainment. We were never approached once by the Maxim folks who sell the timeshares at the place but I'm certainly interested in atleast seeing their sales pitch. The area surrounding the hotel is just breathtaking, the mountains are majestic and the ocean was incredible.

We did take one excursion and that was the ATV trip. That was alot of fun and I recommend it to any one who wants to see the small villages. They even take you to the ocean for a dip, very impressive.

The only negative I can think of was the quality of the liquor used. Not a top-shelf bottle in site and the drink quality was just OK. We stayed at the Excellence last year and the drink quality was much much better. The beer was excellent though, Presidente on tap is always great.

Thumbs up all the way!

“brilliant resort”

Sun Village Resort & Spa Cofresi

The resort, this was every bit as described by other reviewers the food was excelant and the sevice outstanding. On the one and only occation our roon was overlooked by the cleaning staff, which in fairness was a lack of comunication on our behalf, we rang reception and within 10 mins the room was done. The stairs although plentiful just help to rid the few pounds you put on by the lovely food on offer, and it was plentiful even my very fussy 12 year old son found tons of choice. The greeting was as welcoming as you could wish for, and the bell boys friendly and very good at making you start to enjoy your stay. I would however book upon return a superior room as the standard room was nice but a little jaded, having said that there is work on to improve these rooms. We did the dolphin experiance at ocean world which good but not cheap about £50 per child and £80ish for adults the swim is more and i think over rated this is not an all day excurtion its about 3-4 hours but the food was very cheap a burger and fries all fresh and side order was about £3-4 each. Back in the resort and the entertainment staff worked very hard to involve everyone well done! The dance troop that came into the resort once a week were brilliant and the drinks plentiful real coke and other familiar drinks. i must take this oppertunity to personally thank Carlos Almante one of the service captains in the Malibu resterant he turned an already fantastic stay into a truley memroble one. The pools all clean all as you see it on trip advisor. Be warned if you go looking for faults you will find them as we all have different expectations and i thought mine were tough to please but they were well done S.R.V. Look forward to going again soon. P.S. Try and book in the uk with anyone except First Chioce there air service was shambolic, I unfortunatly suffer from an anxiety disorder triggerd by enclosed spaces and a fear of flying, i requested a window seat or at worst an aisle seat, as seeing the outside helps me deal with this problem. My g.p. also wrote a letter explaining this to the airline and i retained a copy for referance to the booking staff and yes my seat was centre aisle middle and then a family member offered me there seat wich was an edge seat but a blanked out window. my wife made my problem known to the crew who assured me they would sort it out and return to me by wich time i well into an anxity attack, there was no contact for remainder of the flight. Upon return i approached the tour operator rep and forced her to read my medical notes to see if there were any other window seats, she did take notice but upon boarding i was Told to sit in my origenal seat, mid flight we encounted some tubulance this is normal but for anyone is unsettling unfortunatly for me a 4 hour anxiety attack resulted. due to this i became more and more dehydrated and they charged my wife £2.40 per bottle of water for me an hour out of manchester one young crew mamber offered me a small cup of ice water, and we paid extra to sit together this did not happen well done First Choice AIrlines, i welcome a response..............

“This is paradise!”

This place was amazing the only issue was that we couldn't stay longer! Booked our holiday with First Choice and chose this location largely due to its prxomity to Ocean World (expensive but out of this world day out!) The room was lovely and the maids did a lovely job with flowers etc each day. The staff were numerous and couldn't have been more helpful. We had one issue with a smoke alarm and this was dealt with straight away. The spa was real treat and a massage is well worth the money! The pools were all good our favourite was the one nearest the beach and the Love Wrecked bar really made you feel you were in paradise! Food pretty good the breakfast omelettes where you shoose your own fillings were particularly good. All in all, a super place for a luxury holiday and we would definately return.

“Romantic Stay at Sun Village”

My boyfriend and I stayed at Sun Village last May for his 26th birthday. I booked the hotel through cheap caribbean and it was the best choice I could have made. We arrived on May 11 pretty late at night since out flight arrived in sanitago so late. I'll start with our check in.
Check In
No problems there. Very quick and efficient. I had emailed the resort several times as I wanted our stay to be flawless. It paid off. I received a free upgrade to a superior room which was located close to the pools and restaurants.
The Room
We stayed in building 302 on the third floor. There are no elevators, so if you don't like stairs you might have a problem. Had a great view of the gardens from our balcony. Room was immaculate with the usual towel art on the bed. Bed was comfortable and clean. Nice sitting area in the room and my favorite was the chairs and table outside on the balcony.
The Pools
Love the pools!!! So many to choose from , but we generally went to the upper pool where they had the swim up bar. Pools were rarely overcrowded and there was always lounge chairs available.
The Food
We may be skinny, but we love to eat. Food was great. 24 hour buffet was nice, since we tend to be nightowls. We ate all of the ala carte restaurants and by far I liked the Lemon Grass the best. Although they were all very good, espically for an all inlcusive. Breakfast was my favorite though. Everyday I had the made to order omelet. They also had fresh smoothies available for breakfast.
The Romance
I booked this vacation hoping to make it memorable, and it was. I paid the extra 100.00 US dollars to have the beachfront private dining. It was awesome. They set up out table in the gazebo at the beach. They had a walkway leading to the table that they had laid rose petals down the whole way. It was a perfect candlelight dinner with four courses including an entree of lobster and steak. They also served a sangria that was so delicous. We also had a personal waiter that made sure our night went well.
The Beach
As all the other reviews have said, the beach was not great. It was ok. You had sand and water what else do you need. There was a lot of seaweed, but what do you expect, its a beach. I did like the fact that it was not crowded since there is only two resorts that use it. The Beach bar was awesome. Drinks were always good and never watered down. There were some people who did try to sell us stuff at the beach while were were laying out, but just one no and they left us alone after that. They were never Pushy.
Conclusion
I would definetely go back. We had absolutely no problems or issues during our stay. I do recommend going on the excursion to the waterfalls. It was worth the money. Also go into town, but just get a taxi. Very cheap , and our taxi driver was also a tour guide. He showed us where to go to get best deals. ie. he took us the grocery store to stock up on the Brugal Rum. It was only 4 US dollars a bottle. We took 12 bottles back to US.
