This was the first time that my wife and I visited the Dominican Republic but I was prepared as my parents go every year but have never stayed at Fun Royale. I don't have too much bad at all to say about the resort and for those who do, go somewhere else next year. You have to remember that this is a 3-4 star resort; if you want 5 star ammenities, you have to pay for them elsewhere. The accomodations were comfortable and we found the entire resort to be extremely clean, including the beach club, which we found to be much cleaner than some of the more expensive resorts we went through. The staff and animation crew, which seem to be the same people, did an absolutely amazing job the week we were there. My wife was in love with Anthony and we all got a kick out of the entire team, Shaggy, Victor, Spaghetti, Salami, Andre, etc. These guys all worked like dogs. The buffet was good and the al la carte restaurants were amazing. No complaints at all about the bars or bar tenders either. Tip once in a while and you'll never wait in line for a drink. There are a lot of variables involved, but we would definitely consider returning again. If you are simply looking for a good time at a resonable price, Fun Royale is more than suitable.

Glad to be back home. I've been at the Fun Royale several times over a 4 year period and was amazed how much it had changed. The rooms are really in need of repairs and upgrades, the buffet area was the best this time around lots too choose from. The main pool area was very dirty the whole week their we only saw the pool boy twice to clean the pool and beleive me it was done fast. The Bartenders are the best they work too hard for the salary they get. The animation team has changed so much the shows are just not the same. Also some of the animation guys only expect one thing and it did not impress me it only made me feel uneasy, Puerto Plata is a great place to visit put when they ask you to go their it's not to visit!!!!!!!!!! I will return to Puerto Plata but not the Fun Royal. Playa Dorada has a lot to offer many resorts on the complex will definitely try another resort. It's too bad because I like some of the staff at the Fun Royale not all of them are bad seeds. Any ways enjoyed my holiday because I made it fun with the people that were with me. I have spoken to the manager at the hotel and he assures me that things will change but I don't really think so. The resort was fun in the past but not anymore. One word of advise to all the young ladies going be careful please.

We just returned from Fun Royale on Feb. 21/08. I read reviews before going and had mixed feelings as it turned out we had a great time and would return again! We went with two other couples ages ranging from 33 to 48. We all enjoyed this vacation.

Food- The food was good. The buffet got boring by the fifth night but had lots of choices thats for sure. The Italian A la Carte was ok. The Barizillian A La Carte was good as well. The breakfast buffet was great. You could have pancakes, omlettes, or eggs made right in front of you.

Beach- The beach was ok. We only went to it once as it was very windy there. They have a small buffet on the beach as well as a bar. The buffet had chicken,fish, french fries, salads.

Rooms- Our rooms were great! They were huge. Very high ceilings. Actually the first resort I have been too where I have not seen any ants or bugs. And we travell every year. I was quite impressed with the rooms. We were on the third floor.

Entertainment- Not so good. Very boring most nights!

Pools- We only swam at the main pool as thats where all the entertainment was during the day. The swim up bar was great! They have two other pools....adults only and a kids pool. The pools were clean, and a good size.

Side trips- We booked at the plaza and saved quite abit of money doing so. We paid $90.00 US for three excursions. Four wheeling, safari and horse back riding. The four wheeling was fun! Take cloths for it because you get very muddy/dirty.
The safari is a must. I had done the safari a couple years ago and went again because the others we went with had never been before. The safari is a must! The falls are a once in a lifetime opportuntiy! Do not take young kids on the excursion....as the falls are not for kids to climb. Horse back riding we had paid for but in the end chose not to go. It was our last day there and it just seemed that we were always on the run so we chose to hang out at the pool and lap up the sun.

Weather- The weather was amazing! It rained on and off the first day we were there. the next 6 days were nothing but sun. It rained at night when we were sleeping. Couln't ask for better weather!

As I said we travell every year, we have been to Mexico a couple times, Jamaica once and Dominican 4 times. I love the Dominican. For all you people that complain about this resort....not sure what your problem is. For a three star resort it was very nice and clean. I have stayed at 4 and 4 and a half stars before and this resort has a couple of them beat. Remember you are in a very poor Country, if you can't handle a few bugs, hydro flickering every now and again, running out of hot water or whatever your complaint is then stay at home or go to Florida.

In closing would I recommend this resort...yes. Would I go back...for sure! Have a great trip and keep an open mind!

I was invited to join a few friends to the Fun Royale (one of my friends bought a timeshare). Prior to going I did read the reviews on tripadvisor and I must say they were pretty accurate. The resort was overall very clean (rooms, public grounds, food areas) and the food ranged from just average to very good. The rooms, however, were quite basic with terrible lighting. We also had a 'plumbing' problem throughout the week. They tried to fix it several times and finally the day before we left all seemed to be ok.
I spoke to numerous folks from the UK, Canada, and the US and all felt that this was the least favorite resort experience they have had.
I did have a very good time with my friends and met some nice people during my stay but I would not return to this particular resort again.
