Me, my mother, and my aunt just returned from the Dominican Republic and stayed at the Fun Royale. None of us had ever been to the Dominican, so for a first impression is was amazing.

the hotel/room
the hotel was beautiful, our room had 3 single beds which was nice for us to have our own sleeping quarters, the rooms were very spacious, never had a problem with anything in the room. we left presents for the maids each day to ensure a job well done.

the pools
there was the main pool were the entertainment was all day. There was an adults only pool for a more quiet day and had its own bar as well. there was also the kids pool which was over by a play ground and other things for the children to do. We spent all our time at the main pool. It was entertaining to see the animation team work. They kept everyone smiling. The pool was very clean, i saw numerous men cleaning it at different times.

The bars
the pool bars and the swim-up bars where always good. The bartenders were amazing, so friendly and always enjoyed seeing you smile. The 24 hour bar was always busy with people and the bartender was amazing.
the beach bar was good as well.. not as friendly but still decent.

the staff
all staff members were absolutely amazing. The bell boys were so friendly and remembered you. the front desk staff was nice but quiet and shy. the animation team was hilarious, those boys worked their butts off day after day. they kept everyone happy and if you wanted to take part in the games you were more than welcome to and if you didnt they left you alone.. for the most part.
the maids were very nice women. and did a great job cleaning your rooms.

all in all this hotel was amazing. If your picky then i can see where you could find problems. but if you are laid back and just looking for a nice holiday then this place is perfect. be open minded. its a different culture. you must remember that. the dominican people are friendly and smiley. if you smile that makes them happy. i would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Had a great time with my whole family. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly. Don't leave anything around or pay in cash. My son left his wallet by the computer desk and it was stolen before we realized it. The attendant eventually confessed and returned most of the money. I made the mistake of paying cash for a good deal with a fellow who called himself "Giovanni". The trip was rained out and he
stole my payment. I have attached a picture for your benefit!

I am not a picky traveler and generally don't believe the negative reviews posted are as severe as people make them out to be.

However....

The food here was awful...plenty of quantity and variety but a complete zero in quality. Our party of four all had diarrhea the entire trip. After speaking with other guests it was the exception to find someone who did not get stomach problems....every day! We actually went to another resort and REQUESTED a time share tour. By pretending to be interested in a time share they allowed us to eat in their buffet. It was heaven!

We attended the hotel's special Italian restaurant and found out that they have two menus...one which is included and the other that had prices....$25 and up. Apparently all inclusive for the crap food and charge for food that won't make you sick?? I guess that is their motto but they already stole $45 per day for food that made us sick so I did not want to risk more money. The food there was awful.

I like to party and was really looking forward to the drinking and social activities. The all inclusive drinks were a joke and a complete waste of money...warm keg beer in a very small thimble sized soda cup and bad well drinks were all that was available.

The all male twenty something hotel pool staff spent their entire time trying to have sex with female guests. They continuously hit on every woman there including my date under the guise of entertainment and fun. They do not know when fun crosses the line to groping and molestation. I witnessed them making out with drunk guests... Very sad display... I believe the staff was there for their pleasure, not the guests. Constant vulgar and sexual displays of distasteful acts were performed at very inappropriate times. I felt sorry for families with children. This must be condoned by the hotel because it went on constantly in plane view of all.

I'm not telling anyone not to come to the Dominican Republic....just do not stay here or anywhere unless it is a 5 star hotel. The all inclusive rate at a neighboring 5 Star hotel was only $30 per day. I will never recommend anyone stay at this hotel ever.

This was the first time that my wife and I visited the Dominican Republic but I was prepared as my parents go every year but have never stayed at Fun Royale. I don't have too much bad at all to say about the resort and for those who do, go somewhere else next year. You have to remember that this is a 3-4 star resort; if you want 5 star ammenities, you have to pay for them elsewhere. The accomodations were comfortable and we found the entire resort to be extremely clean, including the beach club, which we found to be much cleaner than some of the more expensive resorts we went through. The staff and animation crew, which seem to be the same people, did an absolutely amazing job the week we were there. My wife was in love with Anthony and we all got a kick out of the entire team, Shaggy, Victor, Spaghetti, Salami, Andre, etc. These guys all worked like dogs. The buffet was good and the al la carte restaurants were amazing. No complaints at all about the bars or bar tenders either. Tip once in a while and you'll never wait in line for a drink. There are a lot of variables involved, but we would definitely consider returning again. If you are simply looking for a good time at a resonable price, Fun Royale is more than suitable.
