me and my friend returned from fun royale/tropicale at end of february after our second visit there.we found the food a bit better than last year and overall were pleased with the accommodation etc.you really have to watch the animation staff,,,,everyone is there best friend!!!!! they tell you how much they like you,can i borrow 100 pesos,then 500 pesos,,,,i want to take you to pizza hut but when the bill comes you pay and then its hemmingways and guess again,,,you pay !!!! my friend saw spagghetti last year and again this year but while we were there i heard so many stories about him and all his girlfriends,,,,and how many women do they ask to help them by sending money through western union? spagghetti got my friend a ring for valentines day,i thought that was lovely of him but it hurts me that she thinks she is his one and only....i spent a lot of time with victor and went out with him and his son for a meal....they all make you feel special and say you are their numero uno,,,,time will tell !!!!! all i heard for 2 weeks was them trying to get women to go to puerto plata..the city!!!!! great holiday...great accommodation...great entertainment....but please watch the animation staff....very entertaining and great at their jobs but if you are a woman on your own they only want your money,to be taken out and to go to "THE CITY" .........victor has been in contact with me since we returned,,,i would love to believe what he says to me but i have my eyes wide open........i would go back as i love the island but would tell anyone going there to be very careful

I travelled to the Fun Royale for a week in march 08 on my own (single female) and had an amazing time.
The hotel was not the best quality, my room was on the bak of the property and was one of the older rooms, but it was still clean and perfectly adiquate for the time I intended to stay in it.
The food was excellent and the entertainment staff were so lovely, often sitting with me to eat as they saw I was alone.

Most of the shows were really good and the staff work so hard to keep everyone entertained all day. I esp want to thank Shaggy who was one of the funiest and lovelest guys I have met.

I never felt threatened or under pressure to do anything and it was a great relaxing and fun trip. I hope to return one day.

I was actually quite concerned after reading some of the reviews about this resort, but after we arrived I soon realized we had nothing to worry about. We travelled with our children (ages 3 and 6) for March Break and they had a blast!! We have travelled several times to the Caribbean and this is this first resort I have seen that had fun stuff for the kids to do. At night they had a mini disco for the kids and had them all up on stage dancing, it was so cute. They also had a talent show night for them. The entertainment was the best I've ever seen. The animation team is creative and high energy, the Michael Jackson show was great!! Our room was great, very clean, with fresh towels every day. I was very impressed that there were so many staff around, always tidying up and picking up people's garbage. All of the staff were very friendly and accomodating. When we arrived and were given our room I asked the front desk lady if our room had a balcony, she said no and I asked her if it would be possible. No problem!! She switched our room! The Dominican's love children!! In fact they call them all the babies (regardless of their age) I felt very safe on this resort. The food was good, lots of variety. I can't believe that anybody would say negative things about this place. But I guess if you want to find something to complain about, you'll find something!! Oh, and to the man who woke up with his eye swollen and blamed it on mold in the room, well I had the exact same experience and had to see the doctor. The only difference is that the doctor said it was an environmental allergy. Not a mention about mold.
I have to say that I had read alot of negative comments about this resort and didn't agree with any. So, if you're thinking about going to the Fun Royale, go!! WE HAD THE BEST TIME OF OUR LIVES!!

Me, my mother, and my aunt just returned from the Dominican Republic and stayed at the Fun Royale. None of us had ever been to the Dominican, so for a first impression is was amazing.

the hotel/room
the hotel was beautiful, our room had 3 single beds which was nice for us to have our own sleeping quarters, the rooms were very spacious, never had a problem with anything in the room. we left presents for the maids each day to ensure a job well done.

the pools
there was the main pool were the entertainment was all day. There was an adults only pool for a more quiet day and had its own bar as well. there was also the kids pool which was over by a play ground and other things for the children to do. We spent all our time at the main pool. It was entertaining to see the animation team work. They kept everyone smiling. The pool was very clean, i saw numerous men cleaning it at different times.

The bars
the pool bars and the swim-up bars where always good. The bartenders were amazing, so friendly and always enjoyed seeing you smile. The 24 hour bar was always busy with people and the bartender was amazing.
the beach bar was good as well.. not as friendly but still decent.

the staff
all staff members were absolutely amazing. The bell boys were so friendly and remembered you. the front desk staff was nice but quiet and shy. the animation team was hilarious, those boys worked their butts off day after day. they kept everyone happy and if you wanted to take part in the games you were more than welcome to and if you didnt they left you alone.. for the most part.
the maids were very nice women. and did a great job cleaning your rooms.

all in all this hotel was amazing. If your picky then i can see where you could find problems. but if you are laid back and just looking for a nice holiday then this place is perfect. be open minded. its a different culture. you must remember that. the dominican people are friendly and smiley. if you smile that makes them happy. i would recommend this hotel to anyone.
