Just got back from a week's stay at Breezes, and overall, I was satisfied with my stay. I have read a lot of reviews about this resort, and I have seen both the positives and the negatives. So, here's my take.
(1) Hotel Room = overall satisfactory. Did have a small insect issue in one small area of the room, but considering that these are older buildings and this is a tropical area, it is not entirely unexpected. Rooms were spacious, good selection of TV channels, bar fridge regularly stocked. You tip the maids, you get treated well. However, watch out on Sundays, this is when the villa floors and walls get hosed down on the outside, and apparently, they hose down the doors as well, so water may get in under your door.
(2) Food = just a clarification for all the negative reviews that have been previously posted, this is a different part of the world, food will taste different than what you are used to. That being said, I was happy with all of the restaurant choices. Jimmy's buffet was good, but I found that you pretty well stick with the same items over and over. The Japanese and Paris restaurants are a must. The Mexican restaurant is better than what most made it out to be, and the Pasta restaurant is alright, but not great. Snack bar was much better in the day then at night.
(3) Beach = exactly as reviewed. Red flagged for all of the trip, but the beach was fun. Spacious, lots of chairs. You can get chairs whenever you want, but getting shade is a different story, get there early
(4) Pool = great area. The DJ is a bit annoying at first, but he is there for crowd enjoyment, so you should be able to tolerate it. Warning though, the resort is open to local customers on the weekend, so the pool area and the buffet area are fairly crowded on the weekends.
(5) Things To Do In Resort = golf course is run down a bit, but still alright. Trapeze and rock climbing are fun to do. Some shopping in the resort and local vendors come around a few days during the week. Casino was quiet for the entire trip, so don’t expect any poker tournaments, but you can try out other games.
(6) Staff = excellent group of individuals, I have never seen such diligence to keeping the area clean. Very friendly group, they made the trip so much better.
If you are going on excursions, the Yazika zip-line tour is a must. Just a heads up, the vendors for the off-road excursions are very persistent. If you say no right away, they will leave you alone.
So in conclusion, yeah, this may not be the most modern resort in the area, but it is a good value and is worth a stay. The staff will make it worth the while.
