We arrived on June 4th 2012 for our honeymoon.. and departed June 11th 2012.
Resort looks great.. well maintained and very beautiful!
The first day we arrived at 12pm... it took an hour to check in and than we couldn't even go to our room until 3pm.
We had our all exclusive bracelets on, so we decided to hit up the stone baked pizza place. Service sucked. no one took our order for 30 mins... just water was given to us. Finally we ordered 2 Cesar salads and 1 pizza. the salad was DISGUSTING... tasted horrible and greens tasted dirty. Pizza on the other hand tasted great little did we know that pizza would be majority of our diet while we stayed for 7 days. This being because the food sucked. I've had better food at a 3 star motel in some small town Ontario. I am not exaggerating! my wife was so let down from the food...we picked this resort cause it's the only 5 star we expected better food than we get at home... We spent countless time going from restaurant to restaurant looking for food we could eat... we always ended up at the pizza place for just pizza. Service at all the restaurants was hit or miss... sometimes it was great sometimes we'd wait an hour for someone to take our order. every salad we got had brown pieces and or tasted like dirt. little options for salad dressing. Room service was even worst... hit or miss for it being cold or the food just sucking in general.... multiple nights it took 1 hour and 20 mins to get our order. I can't say enough about how much we disliked the food... one of the greatest moments of our trip was getting at the airport to go home and getting wendys fast food. since we starved for 7 days. Our first day we wanted to go down to the ocean for a nice walk down the beach at night. Both of us have never seen the ocean so it was an exciting time. We hopped on the train and it dropped us off near a restaurant that had tables of souvenirs set up 5 seconds after being dropped off we were being harassed by vendors who wouldnt take no for an answer. They lit cigars for both of us to try... and put a pack in a bag and tried for force us to buy them thinking the cigar buy was the only one harassing us we tried to look at the other stuff at other vendors same deal... we were harassed for over 35 mins.... they wouldn't let us leave, 2 or 3 of them around us telling us 'we give you good deal take now come back and pay later', giving us small gifts to make us feel bad and even stepping in front of us as we tried to leave. this was a horrible experience.
The 'shows' they offer for free are hit or miss as well... Michael Jackson show was alright but even that was low quality. All star show was so bad it was unbearable. Boogie nights show was horrible. Circus was a ' ok ', Fashion show entertainment was good... but the fashion show it self sucked. I would compare the shows quality to that of a high school production dancers all out of sync and sound quality very low.
we registered our honey moon with public relations... we got 2 free honeymoon t shirts ( very poor quality ).
breakfast in bed... which was so bad we didnt even eat 1 bite. Eggs were cold and in the shape of a brain, also smelted horrible and old. bagel with smoked salmon was soggy...fruit was soggy and didn't taste fresh. it arrived at our room at 7am and was set up on our table. Don't see how this service was any different than just ordering breakfast room service....horrible meal.
We also got a romantic dinner at Los Gallos their Mexican restaurant. Again food was bad... however had a nice presentation. My wife didn't eat anything... and we ended up at the Market so she could find some food to eat which is still hard to do...
We received a bottle of champagne it was ok...
We were supposed to receive a cake to our room but it never came. I called public relations twice each time they said it would be there after 6, never came. Went down to public relations and asked again where it was our last day... after 6 there was a bottle of champagne on the table and no cake... we never did get it.
Biggest scam ever was the $300 bottle of champagne at oro that we used our resort credits towards. We got all dressed up and pre-drank since the bar you have to pay for there...
Got the club and it seemed to be alright... nice light shows and decent music... a midget shooting some sort of mist into the crowd and girls dancing on platforms. Go up to the bar and hand over my bottle of champagne ticket...to find out that you can only drink it standing at the bar, no stools, no booth, no nothing just stand here and drink it. Being just the two of us and not wanting to leave my bottle unattended to go dance we stayed there and drank as much as we could to get our moneys worth. we never did finish it and when we finally decided to cut the loss and go dance the music sucked... we left early and didn't enjoy a moment of it biggest rip off ever.
We booked our excursions the 2nd day there. Both snorkeling excursions were booked up so we couldn't do those. We went on the Dominican Experience...8am-3pm no free food provded. but the excursion was good...however if you dont go zip lining ( which is 145 bucks not covered by resort credits, for two people ) than you'll be bored for half the time waiting for the people to finish the zip lining. We did Moonrockers side by side excursion. decent excursion... however we got ripped off by a DVD they claim of you that they filmed... got home to review the $35 dvd and it's just 8 short clips of everyone in the group driving around the resort before we left for the jungle and 1 clip of us entering it. big rip off. But the adventure was fun. oh and you have to buy a bandanna for the dust $10 each... we didnt the first time and ate dust the whole time.
We did the moonrockers again this time with my wife driving because we couldn't use the credits towards snorkeling. the bandannas were only $5 this time... for some reason. so we bought them.
We did the romantic lobster dinner. again the food wasn't good. Salad had no dressing and tasted dirty with brown pieces....soup was a standard cauliflower soup... main course lobster was ok... and steak was ok but nothing amazing... desert was good for me, was pineapple chocolate and coconut type pudding... my wifes was good too until she found a lettuce leaf inside it which of course turned her right off. We went Horseback riding which was fun.
We paid for a private snorkling adventure which was well worth the money! Marinairum was it's name.
night life sucked. Oro sucked like i mentioned above...
We had one soild night at eclipse than after that night it was closed for private functions or just wasn't open. 2 nights only had 1 bar open and it was rammed for that reason.
We had a decent time, the adventures were fun, and kept us busy and the beach was great very clean, no weeds...weather was great and drinks on the beach were good.. but sometimes took along time to get. Overall we had a good time however just alot of let downs. The resort as a venue is 5 star, food 3 and a half star. Entertainment 4 star. service 4 star 3 star at times.
Room was awesome we had the Caribbean suite
