“Great Resort. We'll be back!”
We just returned from the Iberostar Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana (April 30 - May 4), and we had a wonderful time. Our room was on the fourth floor with a view of the resort and ocean, which we enjoyed every day and night from the very spacious balcony. The room was also spacious with little details that were very nice, such as the reading light over the bed and jacuzzi tub. Also, the walk-in shower was very roomy, such that my husband and I could enjoy it very comfortably together. The butler service from Jose Manuel was also very good. My husband wanted a certain brand of something that wasn't available on the resort, and Jose found it off site and brought it to us at the time promised. I was a little disappointed in the options for reservations at the restaurants. On our second day (Sunday) at the resort we tried to make reservations with one of the concierges, and we were told that no reservations were available at our property on Monday, and then for later in the week some of the restaurants were available but not until 9pm. The only restaurant that seemed to have plenty of reservations available was the Japanese restaurant. The odd thing was when we walked by the restaurants at 7:00/8:00, there were plenty of tables available. Regardless, we ended up eating at the buffet and were not disappointed. Several of items were made to order (e.g., tacos, steak, pasta). Plus, staff were always grilling chicken, fish, and lobster, so we could have them fresh and hot. One other thing that I especially liked was that the buffet was set up with small serving platters such that they were continually being restocked. The breakfast and lunch buffets were also excellent, and the charcoal grill outside with hotdogs and burgers was nice too. Maritza at the breakfast omelette station provided excellent service with a big smile. The service at the restaurants at every meal was outstanding. We were greeted with smiles, and someone to pull out our chairs (again those little details). The service we received from Lely at the pool bar was also excellent. He knew our favorite drinks, and made them quickly and perfectly (with a warm greeting adn smile) every time. The miles of beach were very nice. Plus, there were plenty of chairs and umbrellas such that we never had to stake out a location at the crack of dawn. One disappointment was that staff at the various Iberostar resorts along the strip didn't do much to keep the seaweed that washed ashore under control. The evening entertainment was top-notch. We were there for the Circus, Michael Jackson, Ladies First, Chill Out, and Dominican Night. All of them were outstanding! We loved Maria, who is part of the entertainment group. We also loved Ada, who served our drinks in the evening. It was a little rainy while we were there, but it didn't hinder any of our evening activities because the staff did a great job of keeping the walkways fairly clear. Plus, they pull down shades such that you can still sit outside and eat. One small turn off was the sewer smell that wafted up from who-knows-where when it rained. It didn't last the whole time, but definitely not pleasant. Given that we liked to keep our balcony door cracked, we even got the smell in our room all the way up on the fourth floor. Not nice. As a whole, the resort was excellent--food, service, rooms, grounds. I highly recommend it.
