Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! My family stayed for two weeks in a beach Villa... PERFECT! The island is breath taking, but I’m going to categorize this or else i will just ramble on endlessly.
AMAZING! I loved that the resort has the entire island (except the public beach area, which the DR residents boat over to sell merchandise, This area you have to cross a small bridge to enter resort and there is always a guard stationed to ensure only resort guests pass).
Negative part about being so sheltered is you really aren’t experiencing The Dominican, BUT you are experiencing a very tranquil relaxed vacation... or unlike us, you can get off your lazy butts and tour the mainland lol
The scenery is something out of a dream! The immense gardens, ocean view, sounds of the waves... its all much more then I could have hoped for!!! The entire island is covered in perfectly manicured gardens... no matter the time of day you will find staff, cleaning up leaves, scrubbing walk ways, pruning bushes... and all their effort shows!!
Loved the beach! You can see staff cleaning the beach all day long, never once thought it looked dirty as i read in another review. I watched 4 staff wrestle a drift wood the size of a small whale back into the ocean after it drifted onto shore, took well over an hour. Must admit it was an amusing show.
There is the ‘WINDY’ Beach, Must admit i did not spend much time there.
The ‘Calm’ Beach, BEAUTIFUL. Gorgeous fine sand, a little sea weedy is places, but we enjoyed this beach! Never overly busy, never had to fight for a lounge chair.
‘Public Beach’ is in my opinion the most beautiful beach of the three. Calm waters and beautiful sand. I never went there during the day, i hear you have to pay for the chairs and the bar is a pay bar during the day. I did visit it in the evening though. Beautiful evening swim, lots of drinks with people from all over the world, and don’t remember much after that, but i was told i had a blast haa hahaha
As I stated earlier, we had the beach villa, villa 31 room103 i believe. HUGE!! The bathroom is bigger than most hotel rooms! Huge Jacuzzi tub, separate shower (good water pressure and temperature) , separate secluded toilet and double sinks. I love the layout of the bathroom!! One could be showering in privacy, while another using the toilet in privacy and another brushing their teeth! LOVE IT LOVE IT!!
The bed was HUGE!! I could roll over 4 times easily before hitting the floor!! PERFECT when sleeping with a bed hog! It was very hard though. By the end of our vacation both of our backs were killing us!
Lots of closet and drawer space, mini bar (beer, alcohol, TONS of bottles water, soda as well as a few snacks) restocked daily. 2 TVs, one on the desk in front of the bed, one in the sitting area. Coffee maker (if ur a big coffee drinker bring ur own. Couldn’t stand the coffee here VERY strong. And if you use a coffee whitener bring ur own! Because of the humidity seems their packages become moist then it becomes a solid stone. ***if u bring ur own coffee don’t forget small coffee filters.. we DID O.o***)
On the deck you’ll find two very comfy lounge chairs, a small table with two additional chairs and a JACCUZI TUB! Ill admit i didn’t use this even once, but my son used it as his personal swimming pool lol. On the deck is the view people spend millions for. Waves crashin, beautiful gardens, blue skies... we spent hours just listening to the waves in the evenings.
OK, There is a box on the wall behind the curtains that u put your room key into that turns the power on in your room. Very cool idea EXCEPT, have to reset the bloomin clocks daily.
From our villa to the mail lobby area is quite the walk!! Definitely work off some of your dinner. You can request a ride from ur villa by calling front desk (heard they don’t always show up, but we never had a problem, tho only called twice)
Very good!! Though ill admit by the end of our two weeks we were about done with the food... would have killed for a little home cooking! I meant to do an explanation on all the restaurants, but i can’t recall their names right now. The something Pablo was our favorite!! Very upscale, but not uncomfortable, and the food was to DIE FOR!!
Only issues we had was the dress code. Long pants for men, (we r from northern Canada, long pants and that heat and humidity almost killed him lol) But at the same time gave us an excuse to dress up, otherwise i may have lived in my bikini, not sure if that’s a bad thing or not.
Hated that reservations were required! People would go and book both restaurants on the same day but only show up to one so there were only late reservations left. As we had our 5 year old this made dinner at 9 pm difficult!
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!! Food is horrible, selection is a joke, and it takes FOREVER if they even bother showing up! I don’t understand how there food and service is so good but the room service is slow and food it awful!
The staff went out of their way to say hello, stop and chat and give my 5 year old son ‘high 5s’ or call him ‘Master Trehton’ HAA HAHAH . They always seemed generally pleased to see us and enjoyed hearing about our day. The bartenders on the beach are wonderful! They made it a goal to find a drink my picky 5 year old would love, and would get a huge kick out of his facial expressions when he didn’t love them... FINALLY they made him a ‘Mickey Mouse’ SUCCESS!! ;)
The servers were wonderful as well, very attentive and made a huge effort to ensure you are well taken care of. The language barrier was an issue at times, i would order one thing but receive something totally different. But seeing as how we never took the time to learn a little Spanish before we arrived we would drink our drink with a smile lol
We had a WONDERFUL maid named Rachel during our stay! She would always be smiling and talking away in Spanish to my son as she cleaned up. And always seemed to find the time to make lil decorations out of towels, stuffed animals, and blankets, whatever she could find. Several times i returned to my room to find that she had scattered fresh flower pedals around the Jacuzzi tub, or arranged fresh flowers on my bed! *** Always offer your maid a cold drink, costs us nothing and makes their day a little bit nicer****
The restaurant managers were GREAT.
Sandra, in charge of kids activities was wonderful, friendly, spoke pretty good English. My only issue here was we didn’t even know anything about the kids activities when we arrived! We asked around but no one seemed to know (think they didn’t understand what we were inquiring about). FINALLY last few days of our stay we figured it out =(
This was a HUGE disappointment for me as the kids activities was one of the top reasons I chose this resort. Id recommend being more pushy about this then i was if you have children, INSIST on the where and the when, check into it and return if the info is incorrect.
Hubby and I decided to get our scuba open water certification while we were here. SO glad we did!! Our instructor was so patient and understanding! I have a bit of issues with water and my hubby is a TALKER! But he never made us feel rushed, and had no problems explaining something. The scuba it self was a little bit disappointing. Wasnt a lot of life out there to be seen. We did a dive at an old sunken ship, very cool to see, did see a lion fish, and a few start fish... but not a whole lot. Do not misunderstand, it was incredible! And i loved it!! Just wish we would have seen more life.
FRONT DESK/Time share salesmen
Front desk is difficult to deal with. They do not listen to what you want and can get very pushy or ignore ur requests and give you what they think you need instead lol. Also lots of issues with the language, tho i cant help wondering how much is selective ‘speak no english’.
The time share salesmen are pushy and rude. I would normally NEVER suggest being rude, except in this. I HAD to be rude before he would finally take no for an answer. He started giving my son gifts even tho i was saying no thank you then He ATTEMPTED to just dismiss me while he spoke with my husband, but i snapped! I cannot believe the resort would allow theses hounds to wonder around bothering their guests yet go to such measures keeping the natives away O.o
BEFORE WE ARRIVED
I was travelling with my partner, my son 5 and my daughter 17. Because she was OVER 17 she could not share our room!! They only allow 3 adults OR 2 adults and 2 children in one room. I get this, but come one, 17 is still MY child! They would not make an exception, no way no how! Insisted she needed her own room, as she was a single guest it would cost us DOUBLE for her as cost is based on double occupancy!!! I ended up giving up on the fight as my daughter couldn’t get the time off of work and stayed home. This would have been a deal breaker for me otherwise.
Seems this resort doesn’t return emails. I emailed them several times, even my travel agent emailed them, none were ever responded to. I finally called them, i was hung up on/disconnected twice and had serious language issues the final time, tho he made a serious effort to help me the best he could.
- I read a few comments about bugs... i don’t know if it was just time of year but we had no issues with bugs inside or out of our villa. Brought bug dope but did not need it.
- Excursions – i would recommend TOURS WITH TERRY, i had a few set up with him and i hurt my back scuba diving, had to cancel last second, he actually lost money but was very good about it!! (don’t book excursions thro resort, MUCH cheaper with Terry)
- I forgot to mention, one of the three pools is a perfect pool for kids who cant swim yet, only shin deep!!
- Tipping is important!! The staff is attentive and caring, but tip well and you wont need for anything! PLUS, they can use the extra few dollars.
- We brought LOTS of American dollar bills for tipping. I would leave a few for the maid every few days, tip the bartender *not every time* servers, drivers so forth.
- I also brought gifts, Perfume, lotions, gift packs i have received as gifts but never used, i left gifts for the housekeeping with a note explaining that the gift was intended for them. I also made up lil packs for the kids with little pads of paper, play do, pens n pencils... no candy, most can not afford dental there.
- This place feels so very safe! By the end of our vacation, we had totally relaxed, our son would run ahead to great staff or to beat us to the resteraunt and i wasn’t nervious if he was out of eye sight. Often hed return hand in hand with a staff member (weren’t many kids, staffed seemed to watch for him as much as we were) .. The staff would even great him with his favorite mickey mouse drink already in hand. Never have we been treated so well!!
This was a dream vacation. I LOVED it and WILL be going back NEXT NOV and bringing a LOT of guests with me!! We were truely sad when we had to leave, we miss the lovely staff We have decided to return to Cayo Levantado to get married, that is how much we loved it there!!!
