My husband and I stayed at The Sandals Inn from May 3-May 10, 2008. This was our seconed stay with Sandals. We arrived at the Inn about 4pm after spending over two hours to get through immigration. Mark, one of the assistant managers was there to greet us in the arrival lounge. However, unlike our last stay with sandals, there were no cool towels, and no champange. After we filled out some paperwork Mark returned to ask us if we would like something from the bar. He returned a few minutes later and we were escorted to our room on the third floor. The lobby and staircase were very clean and nicely decorated. Upon arrival in our room (wich was about 95 degrees because the air can only be turned on when guests are in the rooms) we settled in and decided to give the room service a try. However, our phone was not operating. I went back down to the desk and a woman came up later and told us that the entire resort was having phone problems. We didn't think anything of it and went over to Sandals Montego Bay for the evening. Upon our arrival, we saw the front desk using the phones so we assumed they were repaired. We stopped by the bar and enjoyed a few of Johnathons Happy Drinks and headed back to our room to give room service another try. Still no phone.
Sunday we spent the morning floating in the pool after we enjoyed room service for breakfast. The breakfast at the Inn was very good and they offered a large variety. We walked into town and did a little shopping and had a mojito at Margaritaviille. I eyed up the slide and promised myself that we would come back later in the week so that we could swim and enjoy ourselves. For dinner we headed over to the beach party at Montego Bay. The party was crazy!!! Couples were exchanging clothes for bottes of rum. We headed back to the Inn where we enjoyed some entertainment at the patio bar. This was the first of MANY times we were asked for tips.
Monday morning...still no phone. I headed back down to the desk explaining that Monday was a special occasion for my hubby and me and we were planning on spending the morning in our rooms enjoying the views of the sea and ROOM SERVICE. The staff appologized and promised it would be fixed immediatly. Nobody ever showed up to fix it. We spent the day at Sandals Royal Caribbean. About midnight I walked my room service order down to the desk and they looked at me like I was crazy! By tuesday morning I was getting rather upset. Between the phone and the tips, I didn't even feel like I was at a Sandals. When I went down to the desk, they asked me why I had not yet complained about the phone if I had been there for four days. I told them I had complained four times...then a manager appeared and promised me it would be taken care of immediatly. A tech showed up in our room about 10min later. He repared the phone and we were happy!!! We enjoyed some room service and headed out to enjoy the day at Royal caribbean. When we returned to the inn to prepare for the returning guest dinner I picked up the phone to order some champange and fresh fruit as an afternoon snack and you guessed it....no phone! Our phone worked about 5 hours of the entire 8 days we were there! This would not have bothered us if we had not payed to stay somewhere with roomservice. On a positive note, the returning guest dinner was excellent. The fluteist was excellent.
The bar at the Inn was nice and made for a good place to come back to for a night cap each night. However, the only way to get any good service was to tip. We saw just about every couple tip at some point of their stay. Some more than others, and service deffinatlky reflected that. We do not mind tipping, but when we have already paid our tips included with our stay, it became an unexpected expensense (no spa for me:()
The other two Sandals were nice and the serice was excellent. The snoerkeling at Montego Bay was awesome. We will probably not be stayin at the Inn again and we will have to really consider going back to sandals...
