My husband and I just returned from our seven night stay in Montego Bay's Secrets Wild Orchid all-inclusive resort and are so glad we chose to go! The resort was clean and well-maintained and we were treated so well by all of the staff members. You are welcomed into the hotel with a flute of champagne and cold towel for your face and hands, refreshing after a day of airports and crowded traveling. Our room was beautiful and clean, with a wonderful view of the ocean that we enjoyed every morning and evening of our stay.
We enjoyed the restaurants, and tried all of them except for the Mexican one. My husband's favorite was the Italian restaurant, Portofino where he had the salmon farfelle, it was his favorite dish on the trip - my favorite was Himitsu, the Asian restaurant where they do offer hibachi but I chose Chicken Satay and Pad Thai and loved both dishes! My favorite dish was at the Jamaican restuarant, Blue Mountain - best jerk chicken I had during my stay, though the jerk men who come around with the carts were irresistible as well...
Drinks are yummy! Definitely recommend getting a coffee at their little outdoor cafe near the shopping area,
We hired a private driver for the day and went out to Rick's Cafe, recommended to me by my boss and enjoyed our day, we shopped and were dropped off at an area where you can do Parasailing and jet-sking but have to withstand a lot of local haggling on the beach. Unless you want to do the above mentioned sports, do some research before hand and ask your driver to take you to specific places. We didn't and could have done without this stop (two Rum Punches and a very yummy lunch on the beach made it a good time anyway for us).
We really didn't participate in any of the group activities while at the resort, we did go ocean kayaking briefly but mostly spend our time alone together (it was our honeymoon after all!!!) And there are many quiet places you can hang out provided (our favorite was our private deck and the little bench on the peer that looks straight out over the ocean with nothing blocking the view....
We had so much fun and found there was still alot of fun to be had without paying for tons of extra activities, but we also went mostly for the R and R and to do a lot of reading on the beach. There are many group activities, some they charge for but many they do not including pool tables, ping pong, chess, horseshoes, bocce ball and shuffle board and beach volleyball - there were still plenty of activities available for those on a tight budget such as we were.
I loved our trip and I would go back again in the future!
