“Great stay at the Royal Decameron”

Royal Decameron Montego Beach

My husband and I spent a week at the Royal Decameron. We have been to other locations in the Caribbean but this was our first trip to Jamaica.

The location so close to the airport is great if, like us, you hate long transfers to your hotel. The planes coming in to land did not bother us at all. Our room was very clean but a bit shabby, with marks on the floor and a very wobbly table. The air-con worked fine and we had a lovely view of the ocean.

The beaches are small but the sand is white and clean. I would recommend a trip to Doctors Cave Beach a few minutes walk up the road if you want a big beach. The pools are not massive and could get a bit dirty due to the trees overhanging and dropping leaves etc into the water but there was usually a guy with a net to keep the pools clean. There were plenty of sunbeds so you didn't need to rush down at 6am with your towels to reserve a good spot!

We found the food to be really good. No chips (french fries) the whole time, which is a welcome change from most hotels! It was nice to eat some Jamaican food and we didn't get upset tummies. We enjoyed the a la carte restaurant for a break from the buffet style meals. We only ate at the snack bar once and that was good too.

The service, on the whole, was good and most people seemed really friendly, with the exception of the rude and dismissive reception staff. Luckily we had no problems to sort out and didn't need to speak to them much. The waiters and barmen didn't seem to be angling for you to tip them but appreciated it when you did. I've noted other comments on Tripadvisor about how some guests don't tip all the time but in countries other than US/Canada it is often customary to tip for good service, as we did, rather than at every opportunity regardless of the the service. I don't feel obliged to hand over a dollar to someone for splashing some beer in a glass without so much as a smile (but this was rare).

There were very few children at the hotel when we were there, which was a plus for us. There was a nice mix of nationalities and a good atmosphere. On the few occasions we left the grounds, we didn't get hassled on the Hip Strip and felt quite safe but we didn't experience it at night. In general, the hotel is small compared to other sprawling complexes we've stayed at but that added to its charm. I would definitely recommend it.

We stayed at this hotel April 11-27/2008,along with another couple..Its only 5 min from the airport,It was great since we never got in till 10:30 in the night. Most people had an 1 1/2hr-2hr drive ahead of them...Check-in was vry quick...If your looking for the all the glam/glitz...you wont get it here...Its very nice relaxing and not at all high class.(Suited us fine). The food was great,no complaints,we all ate well, rooms very clean, staff all great and friendly. We got most of our extra help from Davian,Mellisia,Georgia,Mark, and afew other...There are alot of beach chairs around so that was good..The beach area was small but there were 2 pools as well so there was room for everyone. If you wonted to shop..Its just outside the gate.As for tours,we did alot, instead of booking in the hotel,we rented a taxi,We left at 10:00am and came back at 6:00pm,there was usually 5 of us.We told the driver (robert) where we wonted to got,and what we wonted to do...It cost us $140.00 for the day,If we had gone on the tours it was $75-100 each...so plan what you wont to do first...get another couple or two to split on a taxi..its much cheaper....All in all...we had a ball, and would go back in a heart beat....

The only complaint we had was the service at the beach bar...If you were 20 and had big boobs...you got a drink, didnt matter how much you tiped, they were getting before you....

This was my first visit to Jamaica, It was more then I could have asked for. My Husband and I stayed a week....May 6, 08 to May 12, 08 and we loved every min. We requested a balcony room, but they gave us a room on the first floor, which wasn't bad. I loved it better had the beach right at my door step it was breath taking.
The snorkel equipment is free so don't waste your luggage space by bringing your own. But if you want to snorkel with out time you should bring your own. You should however bring water shoes as there are sea urchins further out in the water. There is a nurse on staff in case you have any issues. The beaches are lovely
You can always find something to eat. Breakfast is open until 10 there are 2 to choose from Breakfast buffet 7:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. or Continental 10:30 a.m. – 11:00a.m. At Passa- Passa . Lunch buffet 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. At Passa- Passa. Snacks are at Snack Grill 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Midnight/Snack 11:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Beach Grill Dinner Buffet 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. At Passa- Passa. And Reservations at Souk A La Carte 2 sittings 6:30 p.m. – 8:oo p.m. and 8:30 – 10:00 p.m. and the food was really good in all three places bars thee are like 4 Babba Rotts , Zion Bar, Pool Bar, one is in the Glitter Disco which was fun the music was great . The food was good. I did like the ala carte restaurant, which featured lamb chops on the menu. Those were very good. I had them almost every time we were there. The other meat at the buffet was very good, too. There was no food that disappointed me.
Going into town, or for a walk: Just tell people no thank you. And they will leave you alone ya mon !! Love it
This hotel was overall one of the best that we have been to. There was beach volleyball every day. The staffs are very friendly and outgoing. They are not pushy though if you are just there to relax and enjoy the quiet. If it rains, check out the gym for sure! It's got a lot of equipment and it's not old stuff like at more resorts. The kids play room is set up with Xbox consoles. Everyone is so nice and not just looking for a tip.
Everyone was so friendly! The entertainment is amazing; probably the best that we have ever seen! The nightly entertainment was fun. We did go every night, we did, and we enjoyed it. Show-time , Jada, Sassy, Zulu, Kim, Dee to name a few, were very accommodating. I really don't have any complaints to say about this place. It's a three-star, and I was happy with what came with this package. It felt like a five-star. We also picked this place because of the distance to the airport. It's only a five minute ride. The planes were not bothersome at all. We enjoyed our trip from beginning to end. Everything went smooth. We took a taxi right from the airport and beat the line at the hotel. You can just waive down a taxi (for $10.00) and be on your way to the hotel. It worked out great!
We love Jamaica. will go back to the Royal Decameron.
The room, food, beach, entertainment, the hotel in general was excellent!! Everything was super clean; we have nothing to complain about!!! The staffs are great!!!!! They really work hard to make your stay awesome. They are really on top of things there and they go the extra mile to ensure that you have the best time. We had no problems with anything, everything ran smoothly!!! We loved our stay at Royal Decameron and have full intentions to go back, next time for 2 weeks, because 1 week is just not enough.

Our trip was from April 28th to May 5th, not long enough!!. Every thing was perfect. The weather, the water, the shopping, the room, the food, the staff, the entertainment. Richard Green from Apple was so helpful getting us settled and making sure we were all happy with the events we wanted to do. I love Reggae so when Leroy 'SingerMan' Cooper sings one song after another non stop with his house band 'It's All Good!!". I've been there before when it was called Jack Tar but it is like a new hotel with all the updates. Every thing is so much brighter and the lay out is so much nicer. Everyone from house keeping (Beverly Clarke) to the dancers ( Jada, Zulu, Kimberly) 'Thanks for the dance lessons" and folks like Nester and Deavion make your stay the best ever. I saw a lot of the island this time and I can't say enough about everyone I met and all that I saw. I'll go back again and again.

“Great Hotel, Great price!”

Royal Decameron Montego Beach

We just returned from our stay in Motego Bay for 5 days ( I suggest a week) My husband and I went on a short vacation to escape the pressures of work and kids. The island was beautiful and I didn't feel unsafe at all. That was a big concern since we have heard good and bad about Jamaica. The hotel had security and barbed wire around the fences, I was a little taken back but better to be safe than sorry. The hotel itself was wonderful, the rooms were kept clean, I expect to smell moisture in a tropical place. The food was good, the buffet didn't change all that much but what they made they made well. The beds were pretty bad and the pillows were thinner than a postage stamp but it was worth it to be in paradise! The service was great! We went shopping on the hip strip and purchased several souveniers, if you are going to get the Blue Mtn. coffee make sure that its the real thing and not expired. Bargain with them a t shirt went from $24 to $5. The police were everywhere so I felt safe there too. We were silicitated for drugs but a simple no thanks deters them. We took a tour to Dunns River Falls and had a blast, bring water shoes and an underwater camera so you don't have to purchase their pics. the guide will take pics with your camera. The snack bar has a self serve beer tap, it was closer to the beach than the pool bar. The beach was beautiful just be careful of the sea urchants. The trampeline and the kayaks were fun. All in all the trip was great and we are planning on going back with friends next time! Just a tip~ don't bother exchanging your money! Everything is priced in American and they give America change back. Ask the bartenders when they'll be on and tip the one that will be there when you are believe me it will be worth it!!!
