My husband and I were married at the Royal Decameron in May 2006 and decided to return their for our second anniversary. Once again, we had a wonderful time. We were there from April 30 through May 4 (the same dates as last time), and oddly the resort seemed almost empty this year. Definitely not any problems with overbooking.

On our first trip in 2006, we did encounter rude staff at the check-in desk, but this time the people working the counter were wonderful. They even remembered we were married there.

The reviews here do a great job of describing the resort. Not a 5 star, but a very, very good deal for the money.

I have to give a shot out to the best cabbie in all of Jamaica - Hylton Forsythe!!! He parks in the lot right across from the resort, and you can ask the guard at the gait to go get him for you. He charged my husband and I $120 US for a full day trip to Ocho. It was the highlight of our vacation! Much better (and cheaper) than booking through the hotel or the Apple rep. He took us the back way to and from Ocho so we were able to see more of Jamaica, and unlike when you're on a bus with a bunch of other people, we were able to stop for pictures whenever we liked. He also took us to a wonderful non-touristy jerk stand on the side of the road. We tipped him $20 and bought him lunch because it was such a great time. Personally, I'd rather have my money go directly to a hardworking, honest Jamaican, rather than some large tour company.

We'll be back for more anniversaries in the future!!

*WOW* We just returned for a week of fun in the sun.
After i read all the reviews I must tell I was a litte worried about what our stay might be like. There were some that said the check in was terrible, some that said that the employees were bad and some that said the food was bad.
This is what I found out on our trip. The longest delay of our stay was getting out of the airport. Huge lines in customs, and some of the fault was with our airline personal, they told us on the plane that we only had to fill out 1 form for imigration when in fact you need 1 form for each member of your family.
As for the resort we had no problem mon.
At our check in we were given our room number, towel cards, and wrist bands and in our room in less then 15 minutes.
All of the staff of the resort were the best. They are always asking you if your alright. They are also alot of fun to be around.
Let me tell you about the room. #425 top floor south end of the building. From here you get a great sunrise and sunset view. You overlook the small pool and can see half of the larger pool that has the swim up bar. Please be warned the swim up bar causes you to become weak in the knees if you stay to long.
As for the food: it was great ,a large variety of fresh fruit was always availible. And the service staff was very good, please do not be afraid to tip your service staff including the bartenders.
There is always some kind of entertainment going on either in the beach bar area, or on the main stage after the dinner service is over.
Zula, Sassy, Jada and Kimberly are the main players of the beach area.
One thing that the resort offers but they do not advertise is scuba diving. They have all the dive gear you will need.
I did not dive with them because I did not know about the service till I arrived at the resort. I dived with Dive Jamaica and I would not tell anyone to dive with them. But that will be another review.
Please be aware this resort does have alot for kids to do and is not really geared to kids. More of a party and have fun in the sun resort.
We walked the Hip Strip a couple of times and did not have any real problems. We were offered weed a couple of times but all you need to do is just say "No thank you". Theres alot of shops on the strip and most carry the same items.
Jewery is a great deal on the island and a large selection of blue diamonds can be found. A shop I found is called Sona and the owners name is Roy. He is very easy and fun to deal with and will deliver you buys right to your resort if you do not want to walk with them.
Another nice thing about this resort is it is only minutes from the airport and located at the start of the strip.
When you go for a walk from the resort you will be asked for your room number and where you are going. They keep very good tabs on all the resort customers.
There are so many good things about this resort and in my 7 days there I found nothing bad.
The one thing that I can tell you is that your on vacation please slow down and have fun, try not to let little things get under your skin. If something takes longer then you thing it should go have some rum and relax. Have a great time and I hope this review helps you out.

We had a great time at the Royal Decameron! We booked thru Apple Vacations for this trip and were very happy with the result. We were picked up at the airport in Jamaica and driven to the resort. Once there, the only problem we had (and it wasn’t much of a problem at that) was that we had to wait about an hour and a half before our room was ready. Everyone there was very nice and went out of their way to make sure you were happy. It is an all-inclusive resort, so all you may need to bring is some tip money. They will tell you that tipping is not allowed, but no one will stop you. In fact, we would leave tips for housekeeping and we not only got our room cleaned everyday, but they came in and cleaned the ceiling fan, glass doors, and gave us fresh comforters every day we were there.
In all, it was a great trip and I would love to go back to this resort. They made sure that you were having fun and had no problems mon!

“What a fantastic hotel”

Royal Decameron Montego Beach

I stayed at the hotel for a week with my 15 year old daughter.

I can't think of anything negative to say about the hotel at all and neither could any of my fellow guests.

The staff were amazing and really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the entertainment was well thought out and catered for all ages and nationalities.

The guest relations team were professional and experienced and really did go the extra mile to make our stay memorable.

I have stayed at other hotels in the caribbean, some 5 star, but I can honestly say this is the best so far.

The only dowside was that we had to leave.

I have already booked a return trip later in the year.

“Great stay at the Royal Decameron”

Royal Decameron Montego Beach

19 May 2008
7/7 found this review helpful

My husband and I spent a week at the Royal Decameron. We have been to other locations in the Caribbean but this was our first trip to Jamaica.

The location so close to the airport is great if, like us, you hate long transfers to your hotel. The planes coming in to land did not bother us at all. Our room was very clean but a bit shabby, with marks on the floor and a very wobbly table. The air-con worked fine and we had a lovely view of the ocean.

The beaches are small but the sand is white and clean. I would recommend a trip to Doctors Cave Beach a few minutes walk up the road if you want a big beach. The pools are not massive and could get a bit dirty due to the trees overhanging and dropping leaves etc into the water but there was usually a guy with a net to keep the pools clean. There were plenty of sunbeds so you didn't need to rush down at 6am with your towels to reserve a good spot!

We found the food to be really good. No chips (french fries) the whole time, which is a welcome change from most hotels! It was nice to eat some Jamaican food and we didn't get upset tummies. We enjoyed the a la carte restaurant for a break from the buffet style meals. We only ate at the snack bar once and that was good too.

The service, on the whole, was good and most people seemed really friendly, with the exception of the rude and dismissive reception staff. Luckily we had no problems to sort out and didn't need to speak to them much. The waiters and barmen didn't seem to be angling for you to tip them but appreciated it when you did. I've noted other comments on Tripadvisor about how some guests don't tip all the time but in countries other than US/Canada it is often customary to tip for good service, as we did, rather than at every opportunity regardless of the the service. I don't feel obliged to hand over a dollar to someone for splashing some beer in a glass without so much as a smile (but this was rare).

There were very few children at the hotel when we were there, which was a plus for us. There was a nice mix of nationalities and a good atmosphere. On the few occasions we left the grounds, we didn't get hassled on the Hip Strip and felt quite safe but we didn't experience it at night. In general, the hotel is small compared to other sprawling complexes we've stayed at but that added to its charm. I would definitely recommend it.
