My husband and I were married at the Royal Decameron in May 2006 and decided to return their for our second anniversary. Once again, we had a wonderful time. We were there from April 30 through May 4 (the same dates as last time), and oddly the resort seemed almost empty this year. Definitely not any problems with overbooking.
On our first trip in 2006, we did encounter rude staff at the check-in desk, but this time the people working the counter were wonderful. They even remembered we were married there.
The reviews here do a great job of describing the resort. Not a 5 star, but a very, very good deal for the money.
I have to give a shot out to the best cabbie in all of Jamaica - Hylton Forsythe!!! He parks in the lot right across from the resort, and you can ask the guard at the gait to go get him for you. He charged my husband and I $120 US for a full day trip to Ocho. It was the highlight of our vacation! Much better (and cheaper) than booking through the hotel or the Apple rep. He took us the back way to and from Ocho so we were able to see more of Jamaica, and unlike when you're on a bus with a bunch of other people, we were able to stop for pictures whenever we liked. He also took us to a wonderful non-touristy jerk stand on the side of the road. We tipped him $20 and bought him lunch because it was such a great time. Personally, I'd rather have my money go directly to a hardworking, honest Jamaican, rather than some large tour company.
We'll be back for more anniversaries in the future!!
