I have recently come back from a two week stay at Rooms and overall enjoyed my holiday however there were a few negitive points that affected my holiday.

1: Our room was only cleaned twice whilst we were there yes the maid came daily but it was hard to say what she spent her time doing because she definatly wasnt cleaning. We often left the room at 8:00 and didnt return till 6:00 to find that our room still hadnt been cleaned.
2. On a number of occassions we were told by the maid that we couldnt have clean towels. Most days we were left with only hand towels. Luckily both my friend and i had brought more then one beach towel with us so washed our own each night.
3. There seemed to be a large number of staff who would crowd round the bar and stare at us all day ( this felt very uncomfortable). This included security who would often stand on the beach with the local guys and watch us whilst we sat by the pool.
4. Although the hotel has a large number of security we still didnt feel that safe. Young locals would come to the bar day and night to talk to the workers. This made us feel a litle uneasy as we thought being in the hotel would be break from all the marriage proposals!! we recieved walking about town.
5. The food and drink was very expensive compared to how little things cost outside of the hotel.
There are some positive points about Rooms
1: Some of the staff were extreamly friendly and helpful.
2. The central location was perfect for us as we like to explore.
3. The beach is two steps away (seaweed is cleaned out daily)

Whilst i would be hessitant to stay at rooms in the future i will definitly be returning to Jamacia.

We just returned from our stay at Rooms. It was fine. We were more than satisfied with what we got for the price paid. This is a hotel used by many Jamaicans (the ones who can afford to vacation.) The furniture and fixtures were a little worn, but everything worked. The view was excellent from our private balcony overlooking the ocean (when the big ugly cruise ships were not in port.)

I am always squeamish about cleanliness in any hotel. Tiled floors should be required in every American hotel. We were pleased to see the housekeeping staff using a generous amount of bleach when cleaning the vacated rooms. All that to say that I felt comfortable with the cleanliness of this hotel.

Yes, the front desk workers were a little on the grumpy side. They did their job and assisted the guests, but they certainly didn't smile while doing it. Oh well. The beach was a private one that charged non-hotel guests $3US to enter. That seemed to keep out a lot of the rift-raft. There were a few men selling tours, as I have seen in Mexico and other countries. We chose one excursion that was offered and bargained for a fair price. When we just wanted to sit on the beach, we clearly told the salesmen that and were left alone.

One complaint is that the pool closed far too early at 6pm. Some evenings I would have enjoyed a swim when we returned to the hotel. In the daylight, I prefer the ocean, but after dark I am a little hesitant to get in the ocean. The pool looked tempting, but was off-limits. That made the pool pointless for us. What a waste.

Something that stood out to me was the number of Security/Police that I saw throughout our stay. The hotel had several guards 24x7. The beach had several more. The result was the fact that although we chose to leave our bags on the beach while we swam and snorkled for hours, no one touched them. It seems that the Jamaican government is making a real effort to make tourists feel safe. The guards at the entrance to the property did ask our room number as we came and went. I took no offense by this and appreciated that they carefully controlled who came and went on the property.

We appreciated the variety of nationalities that we met at this hotel. When we vacation outside of the country, we enjoy meeting new people from different countries and backgrounds. If you expect everything to be just like it is at home, stay home, and pay US prices for a hotel on the beach.

It was awful...rooms were nasty and dingy. We were extremely disappointed in our stay and never felt safe the entire time we were there. We could see drug dealers on the beach outside our room. Every time we left hotel property, we were asked what our room number was. I'm sure that's because they want to make sure they report you missing if you don't return. I felt like a target on the street...everyone trying to sell you something or ask for money. You really do get what you pay for...I would not recommend this hotel. The hotel was a 3 hour shuttle ride from Montego Bay because of roadwork. We went to Dunn's River Falls which was the best part of our trip; also dinner at Evita's was great. If we visit again Jamaica, it will be at a huge, clean resort with lots of security.

I loved the location close to the beach and walking distrance to town. Most of the staff was wonderful and took pride in their jobs, but the front desk ladies need a course on customer service and attitude.Super Club makes lots of money and it's time to renovate this little jewel. It is almost 30 years old and no matter how wonderful the cleaning staff is and they are wonderful, the property is old and needs some upgrading. The staff is some of the most friendly you can find. The restaurant had some of the best food you could buy.The continenal breakfast was just breads. It sucked just buy the breakfast on the menu. The views are beautiful and the beach really is outside your door.I got my money's worth and for anyone on a tight budget trying to enjoy the warmth of a Jamaica vacation this is the spot.Be very weary of the people (not Room on the beach employee's) on the beach trying to arrange trips, excursion or
cab rides.Captain Vincent is one of these people.Arrange trips at the front desk and just ignore thier attitude.Go enjoy the sun and beach and spend your hard earned cash at the wonderful restaurants in town also.

“Everything you want and more at ROOMS!”

Rooms Ocho Rios

2 Jun 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

I have been meaning to write this review since I got back and have not taken the time. I must say that after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor about ROOMS I was a little nervous about staying there!

I spent 2 weeks at this hotel and loved every minute of it. I believe if you are looking for a non-inclusive hotel, you want to spend lots of time away from the resort, you are into exploring the city of Ochi and surrounding areas this is the place to stay!

Staying at ROOMS is much like a Super 8 or Days Inn in Canada or the USA. The hotel staff were very friendly and even though we did have a few problems with our toilet, someone was always sent up quickly to deal with it! We only had one meal at the restaurant and it was very good, a reasonable price I would say no more than you would pay for a meal in a restaurant back home! If you want good quality Jamaican food for great prices all you need to do is step off the resort and head out on to the street! This hotel is in a prime location! If you turn left you head into the local area of Ocho Rios, which is very safe during the day , you just have to use normal precautions like you would anywhere else on a holiday!

And sure I agree with some of these other reviews that drinks at the hotel are a bit more expensive than on the street... especially when you can buy a 6 of Red Strip for $5 US at the grocery store. But last time I checked buying a beer out was always more expensive than going to the store and having your own!

Our room was cleaned every day and we always had fresh towels. We sure were appreciative of such good service that we made sure to leave nice gifts for our housekeeper! And when we saw her later that day she sure was quick to tell us how much she appreciated the things we left for her.

The beach is beautiful and the cruise ships docked there were not in every day. Although there is still lots to of ocean to see when they are in the bay!

While we stayed at ROOMS, Ochi at a horrible flood and it rained for quite a few days while we were there! We didn't mind because we just went out and did other things! The hotel was amazing, even though, everything was covered in muddy water after the storm, they still served continental breakfast way past the time it was over! They had everything in the restaurant and pool area cleaned up as fast as possible. Some of the housekeeping were unable to make it to the hotel that day, but they still came around with fresh towels and asked if we needed our room cleaned!

If anyone has any questions about this hotel or about Ocho Rios I would be happy to answer them! I really enjoyed my stay at ROOMS, the staff, the beds, the balcony, the food, the beach, what more could I have asked for!

I must say there are probably a few things that were not 100%, like you couldn't have guests after 11pm without paying for them, but on the other hand I know that the hotel is a business and they have to make money. I also wished the internet charges were a little bit cheaper but what can you do! I just found a cheap spot in the inside Ochi!

I would stay at ROOMS again in a heart beat! Can't wait to go back!
