My wife and I took this tour not really knowing what to expect since she had never ridden an ATV, but I must say it was one of the most memorable things we did during our cruise. We were met at the port by Neil, the owner of the Wilderness ATV Tours. He then drove us to the area where we signed a release form, paid our fees and were given an orientation on operating the ATV. Once everyone was comfortable, we took off up the winding dirt road to the mountain approximately 1800 feet above sea level. We had to ride for about 7 miles to get their and the guides kept it interesting but safe. At the top of the mountain we got off the ATVs and were served a cool drink and were able to take some beautiful photos looking down to the coast. We could barely see our ship. One of the nice touches was that the guides would safely hold our cameras for during the ATV trips to make sure that we did not drop or damage them on the bumpy road. After descending back to the bottom we were very dirty from the road dust, but not to worry. Neil then loaded us up in the van and took us to the Falls to get cooled off and cleaned off. We really enjoyed the falls with Neil since he would walk along the the falls taking pictures of us with our own cameras and supplying tips on the best areas to climb up. We enjoyed this way of climbing much more than having to hold someone's hand and and walk up as a group. The most exciting part was when Neil told us the trick to climbing the largest fall area on the right hand side. Just as he promised it was an adrenaline rush not soon to be forgotten. The pictures Neil took with our camera were excellent memories of a wonderful adventure.
After finishing the falls, Neil asked what we would like to do next and I mentioned buying some Blue Mountain coffee. He then offered to take us to a neighborhood grocery store we were able to purchase the coffee for half of the going rate in the tourist shops. He then dropped us off to do some shopping before we walked back to the port.
Neil also gave very good pointers on dealing the the local merchants, who can sometimes be pushy. I looked at it though as part of the experience.
In conclusion if you want to go on an exciting excursion with caring, knowledgable hosts, you will not be disappointed with Neil and his crew.
