We stayed at Rooms for 2 weeks in April thru Westjet Vacations. The plane arrives very early and from reading other reviews I wasn't expecting our room to be ready which it wasn't at 9 am. That was fine, they kept our luggage and we went and walked around and visited people we knew. (We could have stayed and had the breakfast.) Once our room was ready at 1pm, we were very impressed. It was large and clean with a great balcony view of the sea. Everything at rooms was great. All the staff are very friendly. The free continental breakfast is more than you can eat, with excellent coffee as well as fresh juice. The restaurant is open for lunch and everything is very good and priced well. The grounds are nice and the beach area behind and in front of the sea wall are kept clean with lots of loungers available. The security is fantastic and keeps persistant peddlers away.
The only complaint was not getting the room replenished with sugar and coffee on some days and even bathroom tissue a couple of times. The internet use is outragously priced but if you go next door to the right, the Near Beer Bar has free wifi with the cheapest Red Stripe on the beach and great service, they don't hassle you. Check out the young man carving beautiful carvings in the little building beside it. He's inexpensive as well and not in the least bit pushy. Book a boat tour from the young guy who has his boat there as well, he's fantastic and super nice and as well, not pushy. Moses on the other side of the hotel is good to for that as well. STAY AWAY from the bar to the left and the two creeps who hang out there. Bad news and they'll harass and threaten you if you don't buy the illegal stuff they're selling. The one had the nerve to come and yell at someone at our resort and then the security guard in front of everyone. Just avoid that bar and especially them, it's too bad they are right next door.
I did'nt feel safe this time in Jamaica but I felt very safe at rooms and it's the perfect location - halfway between everything. For evening meals try Roots, just to the right on the beach, fantastic freshly made food. Takes a while but well worth the wait. Alfreds is always good as well and the Goa and Italian place on the street.
I'm not ever going back to Jamaica as it's gotten way worse for the peddlers non-stop harrassment and telling you how the economy is bad and tourism down. Well that's worldwide and they're tourism is likely slipping because of them! I heard the same story a few years ago when I was there. It's too much, you can't enjoy the beautiful beach because of them, too many other great places to go...where the locals are great and don't harrass you!
