This spur of the moment trip turned into a trip to remember. We arrived at the resort and had a friendly greeting by the staff who welcomed us with big smiles and great hospitality. The checking in process was relaxed and stress free. We were given a cool towel and a cold juice to sip on while we were given the run down of the resort. LeRoy helped us with our bags and chatted along the clean tropical path to our 'tree hut'. LeRoy became a familiar face that we would see throughout the trip when getting our towels for the beach at the front desk.
Rooms- Our room was 416 which faced towards the grounds and not the path. It was closer to the road so we could hear the traffic however we were used to this sound and it did not bother us. The room was clean and spacious but kept the cozy feel we wanted. It was nice to have a lock box for our personal valuables but never felt unease over leaving our other belongings out in the room. The bathroom was beautiful with a more modern feel to it. The shelf in the bathroom was nice to keep our toiletries. We did however run into some problems with the water leaking out from the shower but was easily managed with a towel to stop the water. The high ceilings with a nice fan over the bed kept the space open. The king sized bed was more firm which was ideal for back issues. I did bang my shin on the bed frame a few times but you quickly learned to navigate around this. Our TV was maybe turned on twice as most of our time was spent on the outside deck, listening to the birds, tree frogs and thunder from the sporadic tropical storms. This was nice in the morning to sit out with our morning coffee and in the evenings to relax after a fun day in the sun.
The Grounds- This resort kept a very natural feel to its surroundings. The grounds were not perfectly manicured but were kept beautiful and appealing to your senses. I can't tell you how many different trees and flowers we passed on our multiple evening walks around the resort. The grounds made it feel more natural and less like a large commercialized resort. The paths were very dimly lit at night so, I suggest finding a landmark in order to remind you were to turn to return to your room at night.
The Food- I have travelled to many different resorts and ate at different buffets and this by far was my favorite. The eating area was covered with a thatched roof but open to the air so you werent stuck in a large building to eat. The buffet was small but the food quality and flavor was amazing. Although there was not a large variety of choice, I found it just enough so that you were not tempted to over eat during your meals.
The A la Carte- The nice things about this restaurant was that you did not have to get up at teh crack of dawn to make a reservation. We were able to book at nine in the morning for our meal around 7pm. The dishes served were packed full of flavor and definately was a treat to have a nice romantic table to ourselves in a more quieter atmosphere.
The Beachside Grill- They served a good variety of American and jamican food that made you want to come there for lunch every day. We could not get our fill of Jerk chicken. The cooks were very friendly and did a wonderful job in serving our food in a timely manner.
The service- What a friendly culture. It is definately true when they say "come as guests, stay as friends, leave as family". We were always asked if we were alright, if we were having fun and if they could do anything for us. We always had cold fresh drinks and made to feel comfortable anywhere we were in the resort. The service alone would draw me back to this resort.
The beach- Ahhhhh the beach.....we loved the beach. Most of our time was spent there. We were very lucky to become close friends with the Lifeguard Randy who was one of the most nicest people we met and became friends with in Jamaica. Randy was always there to greet us in the morning, and I have never seen someone work so hard to keep the beach area clean and the guests happy. When my boyfriend would be off scuba diving for the day, Randy would always be there to talk to and to make sure I was alright and if I needed anything. To the day we still keep in contact with our dear friend Randy. The water was warm and clean and you felt relaxed and not pressured by local beach merchants. Definately one of the nicest beaches I have relaxed on.
All in all, I must say this was one amazing trip. So amazing that we are planning to return next year but for 2 weeks this time. We look forward to many more memories to come at this resort and hope to share this with our family and friends by bringing them along.
