“Dont Listen To The Bad Reviews”

Seasplash Negril

17 Apr 2008

You dont even know, this resort is really not as bad as some of the reviews tell. I stayed there for two months over the summer, with my family and had a blast! We are long time Jamiaca visitors, and compared to other resorts we liked this resort the best. During our time here we stayed in room 6. The room is beautiful, though a bit small. It has an outside balcony that over looks the pool. It is perfect for star gazing at night. They have recently rebuilt the restuarant so it has a new feel. The website has the old pictures- not updated yet. Like someone elses review, a week before we had to leave they made us leave our room and told us that they had already booked it for someone else. The room they moved us to was downstairs. I wouldn't reccomend it, and it was quite dark and really damp, there was a dehumidifier that didn't work. Although the second room wasn't that great, our first one has an ocean view- despite what some other reviews say.All upstairs rooms have really high cielings, but could use some repair. Really good food too! The rooms are just steps from the beach, and everyone is so friendly and irie. The security gaurd is great, and very dilligent. Overall the place is perfectly located, and great for families. After staying there for three summers in a row, we have decided to try something a bit new, but it was deffinetly a great experience......we definetly speak the truth! :-)

“Special Little Spot”

Seasplash Negril

15 Apr 2008

I just returned today from an amazing 9 day stay at Seasplash Negril. This is my 2nd time at this hotel and I love it. I almost don't want to review it and just keep it as my little secret. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. They are full of beautiful flowers (loved the purple orchids everywhere) and hummingbirds. We stayed in a one bedroom suit, previously we had stayed in the Jr. suite but we wanted something a little more spacious with a terrace instead of a patio. The ceilings in the room are high and there are windows all over providing great light in the room and views of the beauiful grounds. The furnishings and especially the bathroom are a little shabby but it has great character.
The hotel is located on a great spot on the beach. It is near everything but still on the end of the beach near the AI's so there is no problem with late night noise. The staff is attentive, as soon as we walked onto the beach every morning they immediately brought out cushions to put on the chairs that were already out. They have beautiful large umbrella's for those times when you want some shade. They also have little tables next to the chairs for you to keep stuff on or for them to bring out drinks or food and put it there so you can enjoy the beach and your drinks/food at the same time. We had breakfast and coffee on the beach every morning.
The service is quick, especially so for Jamaica. From when we ate at the restaurant to room service to breakfast on the beach we never had to wait very long to get what we ordered. My boyfriend is in the restaurant business and was very impressed with the waiters efficiency, etiquette and most of all the food. We love Norma's! The coconut shrimp, chocolate cake and breakfasts were our favorites!
The staff was friendly and helpful. It is truly a special little spot on the Negril beach.

This place is a nasty [--] dump. The grounds are well kept, but the rooms are more than filthy, outdated, damp and need serious repair. I felt clammy during my entire trip. The floors in the rooms are grimy and were never washed during our stay; we were told not to operate the ceiling fan because it was loose and could possibly have flown off the wall (which could have ended my life right there in Negril!); the old bootleg television set only picked up channels if the wind blew; the security was lousy and more interested in flirting instead of doing his job; the food was extremely terrible--can't understand how Norma's on the Beach was given such high ratings. The hungry mongrels hanging around could have done a better job at cooking. Norma’s—what a jjoke. And the list of unpleasantries goes on and on. This dump is really earned its name --Sea Splash, because it looks like something that was regurgitated by the sea. This dirty tail place needs to be condemned and rebuilt.

“Great Holiday”

Seasplash Negril

21 Feb 2008

We stayed 7 nights in a junior suite at Sea Splash. I had asked for an additional bed but the king size bed was big enough for our 2 year old son as well. The bathroom could do with some work and we found that we had to wait about 15 mins between each shower/bath before the water would be warm enough again.

I would definitely recommend it, the staff are very friendly and helpful with our restaurant bookings. The weather was great for our 7 days, only raining during the evening when we arrived.

I think the location is almost perfect, in the middle of the 7 mile beach with patty and fruit stalls on the beach front close by. There is even a fruits lady who sits on the beach at Sea Splash usually everyday.

If you walk out of the hotel onto the road, turn left and walk about 100m, there is also a small grocery stall and a restaurant called Cool Spot which the locals eat at. The menu changes every day and main meals come with rice and peas for about 6 USD, however almost all the choices are spicy (even when told it isn’t).

For convenience, we ate breakfast at Normas restaurant every day but I think it is quite expensive as it cost 6 USD for a bowl of cornflakes! Try the fish burger from the lunch menu and the pesto linguini with shrimp from the dinner menu.

We also went the Rock House, Xtabi and LTU restaurants, all on the cliffs in the West End and are good for watching the sunset. We also tried Kuyaba (?) along the beach and it was the only restaurant which offered kids meals. All served good food but Rock House was probably the best. Also most of the restaurants offers free pick up from your hotel although the taxi drivers expect a tip and they usually hang around at the restaurant to take you back to the hotel (expect to tip).

We took a child car seat with us but unfortunately most of the taxis are pretty old and either do not have seat belts at all or they were broken but having said that, all the taxi drivers that we had were very considerate and did not drive like some of the maniacs that you will see on the roads there.

There are several glass bottom boats near Sea Splash offering snorkelling on the reef. We went with Shelton for 20 USD each for about 1.5 hours. His boat is usually moored just a little up the beach (if the sea is on your left hand side.). We found it was usually calmer in the morning. It is worth going as there is plenty to see especially when they feed the fish.

Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves.

“A Beautiful Property With That "Jamaican Feel"”

My wife & I are "Jamaica-Lovers" and we have returned there many times in the last 18 years. We like to find a nice resort and then stay with it. Several years back we stopped staying at our regular place due to extenuating circumstances and "moved" a few doors down. It was clean, reasonable, etc. but to us it lacked that "feel" you seem to get at what I'll call a traditional Jamaican owned/Jamaican run property. So we looked around during our 2007 trip and came upon Seasplash. We looked at a suite or two and they looked good. The staff we met seemed really nice but it was the property itself that really grabbed us. Lush, tropical, and not "over-manicured" like so many are these days. From the moment we arrived for our 2008 visit we knew we made a good choice. Everybody, from the gardener Milton all the way up to their charming general manager,Julian Chang were professional, friendly, & helpful. I am very pleased to have again found a place that I intend to return to each time I visit Negril. (at least once a year I hope !) And before I forget, the restaurant there is world-class ! Called Norma"s, it's a must stop for the evening meal. A sincere thanks to Julian & Staff ! Cary & Elizabeth Adelman. Chicago, Il. USA
