Just returned from Negril Gardens on 5/30. Overall our trip was good but not as expected.
The Resort: Was old and dated but kept very clean. We have never stayed at the higher end resorts and were a little dissapointed with this one. The entire width of the resort was maybe 150 yards. We later found out that with the exception of the RIU resorts, its about normal. The rooms are small the bathroom even smaller. In one room we had all the hot water you could want, when we moved (because of music) we didn't know if we would even have any water pressure. If you stay on the beach side the music can be head rattling, especially when the beach bar next door has live music. We had to move away from the beach just to get away from the windows rattling. We were greatly dissapointed to learn that even though the resort advertised all sorts of excursions you could take there at the resort they failed to mention that all but three of them started out at Montego Bay. So you're looking at 3 hours on the road each time you might want to do something besides Ricks Cafe, shopping in Negril or the water park.
The Food: Is just OK. Not near as much selection as we were used to in Mexico and there was nothing between Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner which was always late. A snack bar would have been nice.
The Beach: Is beautiful, which makes up for a lot. Soft sand which seemed to go on forever. Unfortunately the reef is so far away from the beach there was nothing to see if you wanted to go snorkeling.
The Staff: Was always friendly and helpful with the exception of one security guard who had a bit of an attitude.
The Beach Hawkers: They were interesting. Some were a little pushy but most would leave you alone if you told them no thank you or you would check with them later. It was entertaining to watch the newcomers hit the beach and be bombarded by the hawkers.
Overall our trip was just OK, I recommend unless all you want to do is lay on the beach or drink yourself into a stuper you pay out a little extra and stay at one of the RIU resorts or closer to Montego Bay.
