I just got back from the Coral Seas Cliffs Resort on the cliffs in Negril, Jamaica and I had a fabulous time there! This is a beautiful, well run, authentic Jamaican hotel. As my driver pulled up, a girl from the front office came out to greet me and check me in in the nice cool air conditioned lobby. The gardener carried my bags and showed me to my room. It was up a set of stairs. It was a 2 double bed large room with a large, though basic bathroom, with a huge lovely balcony looking out over the ocean. I believe all rooms at Coral Seas have an ocean view. I booked my package deal through Negril One Stop. Bob and Susan, the husband/wife travel agent team, are wonderful. They set me up with the Semi-All Inclusive package which means all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) free and all local drinks free. Now with that plan I could not get lobster or crab legs, there was another plan for that. But I did get basic meals like chicken with vegebables and a potato, chicken salad, burgers, BLT's, fruit plates, etc. for lunch, nice full cooked breakfast with eggs and bacon. Everything included for an extra $ 20. per day. I stayed there 3 nights for exactly $ 240. and all meals and drinks included! I thought it was a terrific deal! Their pool was just perfect. Had a nice ledge all the way around to sit on partially submerged in the water and perfect for smaller children to grasp ahold of the side without having to reach very far. There was a hotel driver, Richard who was good at planning little excursions for me and one day he took me to Mayfield Falls. A MUST SEE! $ 70. but it was worth it! Take your video camera and videotape the entire ride there which is almost 2 hours but most enlightening through sugar cane, along roads of cute Jamaican style houses and shacks (which are extremely well kept along that particular route), everything very colorful and safe. Richard drives slow enough that you can get it all on tape. He suggested we go on
a Sunday when their was less traffic. Mayfield Falls is an extremely well run facility $ 8. admission. You will get a guide to help you over the river rocks and these guides are terrific. They will NOT let you fall. It is milder and not steap like Dunn River. Very enjoyable. (I passed on Dunn River several years ago - too dangerous looking for me!)
The guides carry a padded waterproof bag with all your cameras in it (video camera, regular camera, bring them all!) He takes you to choice spots and carefully dries his hands with the towel inside his shoulder bag, takes your camera out (alternating different cameras) and takes a shot when you're ready.
Coral Seas Cliffs Resort has the nicest staff, bartender, waiter, driver, front desk girls, gardener, and maids. I loved everyone there. I also loved the location. It was right across from a craft market and a convenient store. You can also walk down to The Rock House and look at the property or have dinner. Be extremely careful walking. Road has no shoulder and is narrow. Walk in the grass. There is a small bar very close to the road to the left as you walk out of the Coral Seas. It has wood beads hanging across the front and wicker furniture and a small bar to sit at. I had a drink there and the owner, a rasta is very friendly. He offered me a red stripe beer and when I said I didn't bring money he said don't worry about it ...you can bring it to me later. Then he explained how the girl there does massages in the room just behind this bar which he showed me. IT was a professional set-up with professional massage table and I had the half hr. massage for $ 25. as my back and neck were extremely stiff from the heavy luggage I carted all the way from Buffalo, NY. She does deep tissue massage and is very good. She went to school for that for 8 months. Again, they told me to not worry about the money ...just bring it back later, which I did.
