This is the place for the budget-minded traveler who prefers the company of Europeans to Americans. There was a nice mix of ages, and no one was loud or obnoxious. We stayed on the beach side in a second floor room. The rooms were spartan, but pristine, with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The balcony overlooked a jungle-like canopy of flowers and trees; quiet and peaceful.
The towel situation alluded to by the other reviewers was not an issue for us (a $5 tip on the first day to the maid with a request for lots of towels did the trick). The food is fresh, plentiful, and traditional Jamaican fare. The staff was friendly and attentive, particularly Oritt and Michael (beach staff). I really don't want to rave too much about the place, because I'd hate to have it spoiled with lots of visitors! Much better to keep it a secret.

I just returned from a 5-night stay at the resort. Overall, I got what I expected to get for what I paid.
The room was very basic, which works well if you intend to not spend much time in the room, which was fortunately the case for me. It did have a view of the beach, with a balcony, which was nice.
I had an all-inclusive package and intended to drink a good bit there but Red Stripe was not an included item at the resort, although the deal clearly stated that domestic drinks would be. How Red Stripe could not be included is a mystery, and that was definitely a disappointment, and I rarely drank at the resort's bar as a result. This worked well though, because there are plenty of small bars on the beach that are within easy walking distance of Legends where you could get ice-cold Red Stripe for cheap, and I got to see more of the area because of that. Irie's beach bar (about a 15 minute walk north on the beach) and Ali's (about 3-5 minutes south) were both very pleasant.
The food was basic too, but tasty and hearty. I thought of it as adequate fuel in between visits to the beach.
The location was great. I watched live music at either Alfred's or Bourbon the last 4 nights of the stay, and went to the Jungle on the first night, and all three places were within easy walking distance of Legends.
While I've used the word "basic" a few times, there was nothing basic about the staff. I found them to be very polite and helpful, and I could tell they really wanted me to enjoy my stay. Mike, who was the main security guy on the beach, and Nakisha, my waitress, were particularly awesome. Mike kept away the overbearing peddlers on the beach (very important, as you will find), and knew where to direct you for off-resort activities.
I'd whole-heartedly recommend this resort to a budget-minded vacationer who is looking for basic accomodations and is just hoping to relax for a few days on or around the beach, and make a cultural experience out of it. If you are looking for all-inclusive luxury, Legends is not your choice.

We found Legends to be a great, intimate hotel - with a prime location, in the heart of Negrils spectacular 12-Mile Beach! The rooms were pretty basic (with a shower - no tub), but the small complex, itself, was loaded with beautiful foliage, singing birds, a wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, and a balcony or lanai off each room. When booking, pay the little extra for a "beachfront" rather than "garden" room - since the garden side of the complex is across the street (and a busy street, at that!) Following other online reviews, we neither paid for the all-inclusive option nor ate one meal at their restaurant - finding a host of other options within a short walk - like Selena's outdoor coffeehouse for breakfast and lunch, or the inexpensive nearby Bourbon Beach for some of the best jerk chicken in town. The beach and water at Legends is beautiful, and we'll definitely be going there again!

we went to this hotel for 2 weeks beginning 31 dec 07. we went due to it been sons 21st, myself, partner, son and friend. My son and friend are true vegan and they found they could eat really well in the hotel, myself and partner found the food, cooked really nice but each and everyday was the same thing. The hotel was very basic, but very family oriented, the staff was extremely nice. My son and friend had a absolutely brill time especially in ricks cafe which was near by. Been the age they are they are party animals, and while it was a truly relaxing place for us, they partied well and we all felt safe, the hotel was connected to its own beach, and all the happenings were on the beach until early hours. The thing that was a nuisance was a road ran in middle of the hotel as the hotel was split in two and the road was extremely busy, there was always security on it and they made sure you crossed with them. We found it was just what we wanted for the price we paid. A budget hotel.
