Booked a vacation for 8 days over X-mas/New Years at NBCC. Had read mixed reviews, so I was a bit concerned. Also, not knowing Negril at all (we are Mexico fans), this was a complete "crapshoot" for a hotel.
What a lovely, pleasant surprise.
First of all, my traveling partner recently had some serious, major medical issues. This being said, I mentioned it to Jean (the owner) via email ahead of time. Upon check in, she assurred us that a hospital/doctor were close, made sure we had the cell number of the manager, and had a ground floor room. These small things, along with checking up on us occasionally, made this place truly special in our hearts.
As we drove into Negril, we had a cell phone booked through NBCC as well. After some initial concerns about fees, all was well and we were set to go with incoming and outgoing calls. Great reception, great price. Highly recommend.
We got into our room, and were very, very, very happy. Now, for the price, you are NOT getting Sandals or a 5 star resort. But, you are getting a room with a great view (we faced the courtyard), private large patio/balcony, a staff that really cares and knows the island, a SAFE place to stay, and a great beach. Our kitchenette was well equipped with silverware, pots/pans, coffee maker, blender, big fridge/freezer and other amenities. An initial trip to the Hi-Lo and we were stocked for the week with breakfast foods and snacks for the daytime hours.
An overview of the pros and cons:
PROS:
1. LOCATION! You are at a quieter end of 7-mile beach, about one mile (if that) from town. So, no huge crowds, and walking distance to downtown (cambio for changing money, grocery store, etc)
2. Wonderful staff. The staff could NOT be better at NBCC. our room was BEAUTIFUL every morning after cleaning (even sand on floors was swept spotlessly!!!) and the front desk staff was AWESOME. Jean - we loved you and Kevin!!!
3. FOOD - though we never ate at the restaurant (seemed all buffet?), at NBCC you are walking distance on 7 mile beach from some great places. Both for quick meals, and for gormet dinners.
4. Safety. I never, ever felt unsafe at all during our stay. They monitor everyone coming and going, and have a gate protected entrance. They really know their guests. We sat on our first floor patio, sometimes at 3 am, and felt VERY safe. Also, we strolled on the beach nightly (after dark), and felt very safe.
CONS:
If you are looking for a five star hotel, this is not your place. The rooms are clean, comfy, AC works great. However, if you want the Ritz, stay at Sandals. But I ask - why waste the cash on a room, when you simply sleep there? This place has EVERYTHING - and I cannot wait to go back!
Thank you NBCC, you made our stay as wonderful as could be!!!!
