Sunset by the Beach (formally Coral Seas Beach Resort) is a wonderful place! My husband and I just got back from our destination wedding at the resort and we couldn't have been more pleased with the way everything turned out. The resort is small, and therefore very intimate. The beach is beautiful, the staff is very helpful and accomodating. While we were there, there were only a few other guests staying on the property. As a result, attention was very personalized.

Samuel, the property manager, was excellent. He really worked hard to ensure that our wedding was all that we wanted it to be. The set-up was exactly as I wanted it, the food for the reception was delicious, and everyone was so professional. If you are thinking of a wedding in Negril, I highly recommend this resort. Our photographer, Diane from DMC Video was also excellent. I am attaching a few of our pictures as an example. If you want flowers, Floral Fantasy in Negril (about 5 min. from the resort) did a wonderful job and stayed in our budget.

The great thing about the location of the resort is that it is at the end of the strip of hotels and resorts on the 7 mile beach. It's walking distance from the craft market, and a very short drive into town. The grounds are well kept, and the food is amazing! We took advantage of the all inclusive package, and were not at all dissapointed. There are no buffets there, the food is cooked to order, which is very nice.

The only issue I had was at night there were huge red ants crawling around the bar area. Hopefully they can handle that situation, because that was a definite mood buster. But, it's Jamaica.... Overall, I loved my stay there and will definitely be back. Two thumbs up!

  • Liked — Location was ideal.
  • Disliked — Red ants at night around bar area.

Stayed here in Feb for 3 weeks. Checked in with no problems and the lady on the front desk was very pleasent and friendly. The hotel has a nice layout and the landscaping is really nice - the gardeners look after it well. They aso have two small parking areas which came in handy and a shop @ the front which I can't comment on as I never went inside! . This hotel is located at the beginning of the beach road which is handy to get into town (supermarkets etc) but a pain if you want to go to the livelier bit of the beach at the other end although the walk along the beach is quite pleasent if its not too hot. I met some nice peeps whilst walking the beach. And no pushy sellers, a simple no thanks was suffient.

Was shown to the room by the security guy and I was very pleased with the room size and cleanlyness of the room. As we were on the higher level we had a large balcony which I used quite often to sit and read when I felt to and also had a bit of a view of the sea! The room walls are quite thin so quite a few mornings I was woken up by the neighbours with deep voices having conversation lol! Rooms have TV's in them but no fridge which i could have done with but managed just as well with out.

Ate at the restaurant a few times and the food was nice but a little bit more money than I would expect to pay but I was'nt so bothered as it was convieniant to get a bite to eat!

The beach is nice @ the front of the hotel but in the sea there are quite a few rocks which put me off going in the sea too much as the sea was rough and I'm not a swimmer so I kept getting pushed onto the rocks!
After that I tended to take a walk or a drive down to the other end of the beach (by palms hotel) as the water was more calm and no rocks!!! Plus there was more going on down there.

We used the jetski's that are on the beach at the front of the hotel as they were newer and bigger than the rest of what I had seen so I felt safer on them! lol!
The boys who run them were friendly and I had fun wizzing along the waves and screaming each time we hit a big wave!
I would definatly recommend using them.

We went on a little trip over to Booby Cay with Moses and his boys which was a nice break away from lazing on the beach. I saw nemo and friends!! Moses had some bread to throw into the water and lots of multi coloured fish appeared which looked amazing!

Did'nt really go out as much this time in Negril as I was so sleepy by the evening!

Did go to Scrub a Dub which is always a laugh and to Jungle.

Ate at Sweet spice most evenings as the steamed fish is sooooo nice! And the Irish Moss is so morish! Make sure you go there!

All in all had a good time, hotel was very very nice and I do recommend it - only bad thing for me was that there was no fridge and also that it wasn't nearer the middle of the beach but this is only my personal opinion.
Thought we would try the quieter end of the beach this time and see how we got on. I really loved the hotel but I wished it was closer to the middle of the beach but if you want a peaceful place to stay out of the hustle n bustle of the nightlife and not so many people on the beach then this is the place for you!

I have stayed here over the past 5 years I come to Nigril every 3 months or so. For what you pay it is the best deal I have found and beleive me I have tried several places. The staff is great Roxie works behind the bar nice lady. Spence is one of the securty people very helpful. Mr Henery is the manager very nice. If you are looking for a plush resort keep looking this is a down to earth place no frills. The food is good. Don't expect fast you are in Jamaica. Nigril is a safe place I'm a single woman and have been out on the beach at 2:00am with no problem. You can walk by yourself. As far a the taxi goes again you are in Jamaica I have not had any problems you just need to understand the way they drive there is different than the states. I have read some of the reviews complaining about it not been safe untrue go have a good time and respect the people you will have a great time.

We booked this hotel when it was Coral Seas, but upon arriving saw that it had changed ownership and was now Sunset On The Beach. This was our first time to Jamaica with our three young girls, so we were truly looking forward to having a blast. The young woman at the front desk was lackluster to say the least, which is pretty much par for the course at the front desk I'm afraid. Everyone there was pleasant enough, but just not the outgoing people I've gotten used to dealing with when in JA. Upon arrival, I was asked for a credit card so they could make an imprint for the safe key. No problem. Got checked in and things seemed ok. Got to the room and one of the bulbs was busted in the kids bedroom. Ricardo went to get a new one and came back about 1 1/2 hours later. Again, we're in JA so I'm good. The food there is pretty good, and the wait staff and bartenders are very friendly. My girls especially loved Alecia and always asked when she was going to be there so we could eat at the restaraunt on her shifts. The hotel is at the end of the beach, near Negril River, so when the rain comes in the mountains and the tide shifts, the water can be pretty murky. It was actually brown on two occasions during our stay, which was a bummer, but didn't last for too long. The security there is great at shooing off stray dogs, but not so good at getting rid of unwanted higglers, who actually came and sat up under our cabana and grabbed my husbands hand in trying to get him to buy a bracelet. Again, the other hotels we have stayed at have had great security, so this was a big downer for us, especially with the girls there. Went into town one night to the ATM, and couldn't find my card. Went back to the hotel and frantically searched my stuff because I couldn't recollect using it since we had left Salt Lake. Had to cancel my card after a long search because I couldn't find it. Luckily my husband had one linked to the same account so we were ok. After calming down a bit, I realized I had given it to the front desk to make an imprint of it. Could they have kept it? My hubby went up to the desk and, sure enough, they went right to the drawer and pulled it out. Now, this had been two days that had gone by since we checked in. They had called us numerous times in our room to let us know we had visitors, or our car was waiting, etc. and nobody bothered to let us know we had left our card there. Great...thanks for nothing. I was pretty peeved about that because there was just no excuse for it, just incompetence on the part of the front desk staff. The rest of the stay went fine, it was just one little thing after another and in the end it adds up to me not wanting to go back to this place again. The manager is nice enough and greeted us while we were having dinner one night to see how things were, but the new owner was there half of our stay and we saw her multiple times at the beach and up at the cliffs and she never even acknowledged our existence. Her family/friends that were there were very cordial, but I would have thought she would have just said hey, how are things going....guess not. She was so busy redoing the paint and decor that the guests just disappeared I guess. Another word on security...I was walking down to one of the cabanas one day with my arms laden with snorkeling gear, towels and gear for five. I didn't notice, but one of our flippers fell on the sand. Instead of picking it up for me, the security guy whistles for my attention from his chair under the tree and points to the flipper. Thanks a bunch...helpful folks, I tell you! This could be a much better resort with just a few tweaks in personnel and some more training I think, but until those things happen, I'll definitely be staying elsewhere.

So, to sum up things in a nutshell:

Pros: Fairly priced accomodations that are clean, good sized beach, decent water pressure and a fair amount of hot water for showers, close walk to town, pretty good bar/wait staff, decent food

Cons: Lackluster front desk/reception staff bordering on incompetent, murky water at times because of the proximity to Negril River, Lack of security, Laziness of some of the staff, owner doesn't seem too interested in the guests...may just be a hectic time right now for her, so who knows.........?????

What i am about to write is the whole truth and it is these facts that i wish you all to read, i am not being insulting i am just being honest and i think it is only fair that your readers have the chance to read the complete and while truth so please allow me to tell it. We have just returned from a 2 week all inclusive stay at the Coral Beach Hotel and all i can say is that it was a complete waste of money and time, in fact if it wasn't for the fact that we were there as a guest to a friends wedding we would have either moved hotels or tried to get a flight home early, it was that bad. The hotel itself was ok, the rooms were spacious, adequate in some respects but poor in others, our drawers for clothes etc were so old that if we opened them we couldn't clsoe them and if we closed them we couldn't open them, you could see daylight around the doors so they were not very sound proof and as outside music would go on through the night - most nights- until stopping at the earliest 2.30 in the morning and twice not finishing until 5 in the morning the doors were a complete waste of time, the bathroom was old and ugly, rusty , dirty, cracked tiles, more days the water would be cold rather than hot so cold baths/showers. Our bedroom was flooded twice because of a fault with the air conditioner and on both occassions our sons bed cover was soaked but it never got changed, in fact none of our beds had clean sheets on them for the 1st week we were there. The food was 3 buffet style meals a day which was nearly the same 3 every day and after 14 days you get a bit sick of the same ,it was meant to be an A la Carte menu but we only had that choice once as there were not enough staff. Every meal you had to fight to find cutlery, cups and saucers, even tea and milk, the bar was always running out of drink, even the basics like bottled water and orange juice, it was a complete sham, our friends held their wedding reception at he Coral Seas Cliff Hotel which is part of the same company and even then the hotel ran out of food and plates to serve it on and that was at a catered wedding, how sad and disorganised is that for a hotel!!
There are only 2 things good about that place and they are the beach and the staff, the staff were so friendly and helpful and they coped so well with all the problems that they deserved a damn medal, . So its simple, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY STAYING AT THIS HOTEL, PLEASE DON'T. as for Negril itself, its manic, its not safe to walk about in the evening unless there is a group of you, there is no where to go, the roads are not safe to drive on so dont hire a car, (its the local drivers that are the problem), there are also hardly any sign posts so you don't know where you are going. We will NEVER NEVER return to Negril again which is a shame because there maybe some real nice palces to stay and see but our stay has put us off ever returning.
