“Decent value”

We (my two adult daughters and their boyfriends) just returned from a six night stay at the resort and were not disappointed with it. If you want to be pampered you should stay at an all inclusive resort. There are no phones and no refrigerators but our room was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning, tv, bathroom and showers all worked fine. Restaurant and pool was adequate. We rented a van in Mo Bay so that we could go do things on our own pace. We went to Dunn's River Falls and Half Moon Bay and ate at various restaurants. We also did a lot of walking. There is the constant barrage of vendors and taxis soliciting but if you respond respectfully and do not ignore their presence they will respect that and move on. We never felt threatened walking around Negril.

Positives:
- Cleaning staff was accommodating and super sweet
- Simple place to stay. Nothing extravagant, but quaint.

Negatives:
- We were taken to our room. The man turned the air conditioning on and cockroaches fell out.
- Lots of ants - bring bug spray.
- Hotel "restaurant" is understaffed, therefore veryyyy slow.
- The staff told us it was a good deal to pay 500 Jamaican dollars for one way anywhere around the area. We soon found out standard is 50 Jamaicans. We constantly felt ripped off.
- No refrigerator
- No phone
- Broken clock
- Location isn't that great. It's on top of a hill. Once you leave the hill, locals harass you to come into their store or if you need a taxi. It's def. walkable to the 7 mile beach, but for about 2-3 miles, the beaches are covered with locals who stop you for anything and everything. If you don't want to be bothered, go past Margaritaville.

Random advice:
- You have to be stern with the locals or they won't stop bothering you.
- Try the restaurant across from the Sea Winds(?) Resort. It's a local joint off the beach. It's so cheap, so much food, and you get a real taste of Jamaica. It's a peachy/pink colored building.
- Try walking the entire beach from beginning to end. It's a lot of fun.
- Rick's Cafe is overpriced but the experience is awesome.
- We stopped by the Riu and it was AMAZING.
- We went to the Jungle -- it was fun. Upstairs seemed to be filled more with tourists whereas the lower level had more locals.

Overall:
We got a good deal staying at this hotel, but pay a bit more and you wont have to wait on food, service, and will have clean (bugless) rooms. If you don't mind petty bugs and can handle imperfections, this hotel will do fine.

We selected this hotel, unusually, without reading the reviews in advance and have been really surprised to read so many negative reviews on our return from holiday.

We booked a 'king' standard room which was not the most spacious, but I've been in smaller. Everything we would expect of the room was provided. The AC and overhead fan (most important facility to me) worked well. All rooms had a balcony, the bathrooms were a good size, clean, and housekeeping cleaned the rooms, changed the towels and made the bed without disturbing us during the day. Internet access is not provided in all the budget-type hotels in Jamaica, but it was available in the Lobby area of this hotel.

No meal was included in the price but the hotel is cheap and does provide meals in their in-house restaurant very early until quite late in the evening at reasonable prices ie Jamaican Breakfast provided with tea 800 JA$ for two people - around £3 each.

We spent late nights by the pool, the atmosphere is very tranquil although there is a nearby club that can be quite noisy at times.

Negril's beautiful white beach is within 5 mins walking distance (try cutting through the craft market) and Alfred's and 'Bourbons' provides night time entertainment - live reggae music, dancing, bar - I couldn't keep my old man out of Alfreds.

Check out prices of the Jet Skis before deciding as we hired for 2700 JA$ although most ask for more and also book the hotel over the internet - we were overcharged for an additional date (we paid cash). We extended by a further date but did that over the internet!

Earl (waitor) was a great source of information and we are sorry to this day that we did not visit Ricks Cafe where you can jump off the Cliffs, eat, drink etc.

We enjoyed Negril, the hotel was particularly good value for money and we'd certainly return.

Our family of four stayed here for 6 nights during September 2007.

The good stuff: our room was clean & comfortable, and everything in it worked well (not always true in Jamaica). Cable TV was excellent. We loved the free wireless internet that was available in the lobby area. A pool table available at no cost too. Most importantly, the staff was friendly and helpful.

Also, Juicy J's Restaurant was just down the hill, and was excellent. Great food and prices, air conditioned and nice staff too.

The not-so-good stuff: nearly every night around 11pm until 2am, there was very loud music (shaking the walls loud) from a nearby club. Loads of small black ants all over. We asked for a refrigerator for our room, and were charged an extra $500 JA per night for it (USD 7.35). No telephones in the rooms. No social scene at all; the place had about 4 rooms filled only, as best we could tell.

The strangest of all was that they asked for cash only for payment (credit card machine broken!), and wanted it all up front.... I have travelled internationally my whole life, and never had that happen anywhere!

If you must stay here for some reason, ok., However, our family does not recommend this place at all!

I had the best time ever. No beach to deal with all the hassles and my room was adequate, would have liked to had a bathtub, but I had a peak of the ocean and the AC worked great. The pool was my private pool and the food was excellent. The price was so reasonable. I could walk to the beach in 10 minutes or walk to the west end in 15. Shopping and food were so close and security was great too. I felt very safe traveling alone and the hotel was very serene. Its exactly what I wanted and needed! I will stay there again with my family.
