A nice place to relax. The cabins are spacious, tucked away and quite nice. The best feature is the beach, a nice cove with a river flowing into it. The mix of cold water from the river and warm water from the sea make for a great experience.

Go early in the morning to really experience the magic of this place.

For dinner, cross the street and go up to the restaurant at Fern Hill.

“Lugubrious”

The vegetation is wonderfully overgrown but the landscaping still bears the mark of humankind so that this hotel could serve as the set for a "The Haunted Resort" flic. Beware - in today's Jamaica, the dispersed cottages are perfect targets for the "teef mahn." Even cab drivers were warning us off the place. The beach is small and crowded with locals listening to rap on their portable blasters. The so-called Great House is worn out - maintenance expenses must be very low to nill. The rooms, though, look okay. Still, the grounds are a marvel and worth a visit.

“What a great little secret in paradise”

Frenchman's Cove Resort

We spent a week in March 2004 at fabulous Frenchman's Cove in a 2 bedroom villa with our kids (next to the villa that Liz Taylor & Richard Burton honeymooned in). What a quiet and beautiful place! We were never hassled by vendors and the service was great. No phones or TVs but lots of relaxation. Be prepared for the long, beautiful walk from your villa to the beach and big house (with a complimentary breakfast each morning). We had lunch on the beach almost every day (chicken or fish, beans, rice,.. for about $10) and the attentive staff will keep you supplied with beer, rum punch or soft drinks along with placing beach loungers wherever you want. We used the same taxi driver each day for an afternoon or evening visit into town for dinner. Round trip to town is about $8 to $10. Several small grocery stores are in town to supply your kitchenette with drinks and snacks (fridge, sink and coffee maker only - no stove). The rate was so cheap (less than $100 a night for a 2 bedroom w/breakfast) that my expectations were rather low - but what a pleasant suprise. The building was a little dated, but clean, fresh and what a beautiful view. We had plenty of room and felt very safe during our entire visit (of course we didn't bring any valuable to tempt anyone). The kids could roam around with no worries. Check out their web site and ask for a villa with a view. The Blue Lagoon is about a mile away and a fun visit for lunch and a swim - but pricy to stay.
Even though getting to Port Antonio can be a challenge, we plan to return with friends!

We just arrived home from 2 weeks in Port Antonio . It is paradise ! Be careful who you tell ! We felt comfortable , relaxed , safe , no hassles , and we had our 2 kids with us . Frenchmans is incredible , you will not believe the property , amazingly lush , dripping tarzan vines , monster leaves , and the beach , ahhh.... Tons of history in Portie , interesting friendly locals , not to mention the natural beauty of the area . Goblin Hill Villas is also a super place to stay , free entry and shuttle to Frenchmans although you can walk ; we did it with 2 young kids just to enjoy the area . This is the secret Jamaica , We will definetly return !!! Faith

Outstanding service and staff. You must share a toast with Mr. Lawrence, the manager of this paradise resort. Have Mr. Lawrence enlighten you regarding the history of Frenchman's Cove. Frenchman's has the most beautiful beach in the world. Each villa is surrounded by lush rain forest. You have no idea there are any other villas present. With breakfast, succulent guava, mango, and tree ripen bananas are served in the Great House along with Blue Mountain coffee, one of Jamaica's finest delicacy. You must experience lunch prepared and served on the beach by your private waiter. The premises of Frenchman's is expansive. Trails through the lush foligage are breath taking. Frenchman's is paradise!
