Braco Trip Report 15th to 22nd March 08

This was our seventh visit. We stayed in room 3049. The room was comfortable and clean. Attention to detail is not a strong point. Management should consider occasionally taking each room out of service to deal with these minor points.

The weather was generally very good except for a passing storm that cost us an afternoon and the best part of the following morning.

Attendance was fairly high with an even spread of repeater and first timers. There was a high number of people that were transferred from Couples Ocho Rios. As always it is the great people staff and guests that make this resort what it is.

The ground are as always immaculately maintained.

The staff were as friendly and efficient as always. Staffing levels were always very high. This almost became an irritant at times with an offer of coffee top ups every fee minutes at breakfast.

Food at present is aimed at the all you can eat brigade. Hugh numbers of choices, vast quantities with probably over 50% ending up in the bin, no co-ordination of flavours. In short high quality dog food. This is a shame as Braco has talented staff and generally uses fine ingredients. The highlights of this trip were two trips to the Sushi Bar (lose the crab sticks), and the soups which are of course not killed by long periods of heating.

The drinks service was as always fine. Braco has now added very reasonably priced alternatives to the house wines ($15 to $250 per bottle).

The entertainment staff were great as always. Two new additions this year are Trudy, and Antoinette. The actual entertainment programme was as usual stale, old, and of little interest to many repeaters.

The piano bar was quiet all week. Karaoke was popular with some good singers.

Spa service are great, and were very popular during this trip.

An ice cream machine has been added to the AN bar - why?

Sun umbrellas are still in short supply.

Wayne and his wife are celebrating the birth of their third daughter. We met up with Merle. She is fine and sends her regards.

In summary a good break with quality time spent with new and old friends.

The comment card read as all previous - get and use Italian coffee machine (one only), buy some sun umbrellas, and freshen up the entertainments,

This year I made my only complaint to date. Comments made during the crab races to amuse the ignorant are to my mind deeply offensive, and unbecoming from a nation that has also suffered from imperialist aggression.

The rooms are nice and clean but the bathrooms need renovation. Ants in the bathroom are not fun. Lots of towels in the bathroom but only one towel bar: it holds them all - it's ridiculous! Pillows are cheap and uncomfortable. Sheets are not fitted so you will always end up sleeping on the bare mattress. Personnel is very friendly.

Food is generally OK, but not as great as I experienced in some other resorts. Don't expect much delicatessens. The sushi restaurant is terrible: I've never eaten sushi that bad. So based on sushi experience we skip the "French" restaurant. The mixed drinks are nice but the wine served is one of the cheapest. Decent live reggae band plays 6 nights a week.

The resort called super-all-inclusive but you have to pay for INTERNET $20 a day and you can use in only in one room! I wish the would have a free Wi-Fi on the beach and in rooms.

The campus is nice and pleasant. The nude beach is nice, but the regular beach is not as much: sharp underwater stones will most likely injure you. Bring with you first aid kit or be prepare to be naked on the nudist beach.

Paid $1760 for 4 nights, basic room in March.

We just retruned from the Grand Lido Braco. The resort was beautiful! Rooms were really nice and Au Natural Beach the best! A few suggestions if you are planning a stay at the Braco, bring swim shoes! The water along the beaches is very rocky! Not as bad on the Au Natural side. The entertainment was great and parties and activities kept everyone involved! We had a wonderful trip. We were originally booked at the Couples Ocho Rios, however, they had a stomach flu outbreak and closed the resort. We were moved to the Grand Lido and given a voucher for the Couples resort at a later date. The Grand Lido was nice, however, for the price we paid for Couples, which included the "excursions" (Dunns Falls, Horseback Riding, Catamaran Sail, and on... and on...) didn't compare. We elected to wait on the excursions until we make it to the Couples Resort this Christmas! Be sure to get a Sunset Beach Massage! Incredible! The only negative feedback I can provide is that the service was a bit slow. They were always quick to ask you if you want a drink, however, it would take 10-20 minutes to actually get one.... (Ask for two at a time...) lol

    • Disliked — Great beach, but rocky ocean floor. Slow Service.

“Be Prepared”

Grand Lido Braco Resort & Spa

Although my husband and I enjoyed our stay at Grand Lido Braco, we won't go back to this resort due to the fact that this (and other Super Clubs resorts) are now catering more to the extensive "Lifestyle" crowd. (Clue if you see the achronym AN or A/N for Au Naturale read between the lines.)

Unfortunately, generally speaking, these guests lacked any sort of decency or respect. (One woman showed up for breakfast wearing only a towel! While at night others commandeered the bars and became loud, obnoxious, and rude making it unbearable to sit down and enjoy the beautiful star-filled skies or listen to the sound of the waves while enjoying an after dinner drink.)

Jamaica has changed a lot in the 3 years since we have been there. Sangster airport is larger and more efficient, the road from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios is nearly completed, and more resorts are popping up everywhere. GLB resort is beautiful, well-manicured, and although showing some signs of its age, clean and effecient. The staff are terrific, patient, and friendly. The food was entirely acceptable. Sadly, it seems the resorts are changing from the laid-back, relax mon mentality to a "Las Vegas on the beach" mindset.

But if you're already booked and not into "Lifestyle" here's what you do. Relax! Befriend the staff, let them know you are not into the "Lifestyle" mix and they will make sure the trip you've worked so hard for, will be a wonderful vacation. If the weather permits, take the boats out, do some snorkeling or just float in the harbor. Enjoy the lamb chops and the Red Stripe and bring a good book! Walk east down the rocky beach to the Yow restaurant and enjoy some of the best fresh fish you'll ever have.
And remember that if you want peace and quiet, you can always order room service. Finally and most important, show Respect. Bon Voyage! (It'll be Sandals Whitehouse for our next visit!)

“Will not be back”

My husband and i have just returned from a 12 day stay at G.L.B.
Our advice to all is dont go there. We had been told it was 5 star .well believe me it was more 3star. The rooms and bathrooms are so shabby and in need of refurninhment, only 1 chair and no table so if you are thinking of room service which they provide 24 hours dont know where you are supposted to eat it. We had booked and paid for a seaview room which we did not get when we arrived , got one after 2 days on ground floor with no seaview. Could go on and on but all i can say is never again to G,L.B.It was our 4 trip to the carribean and untill now we were never disappointed . T he best thing about that hotel are their staff so friendly and helpfull. Having talked to different people staying there almost all of them had problems with their accomodation arrangments . I would advise all travel agents to please check this hotel out before bookins people into it.
