We went to the FDR for a destination wedding. We had two small children (8 months & 22 months) with us and I had reservations about using the nanny, since I am a stay-at-home mom and my kids are super-clingy. We were assigned Sophia, who was fantastic! As I suspected, my kids wouldn't stay with her - but she was more than happy to act as "personal assistant". She played with the kids, helped with meals, cleaned the room, retreived items I forgot in the room/pool. And when the girls slept, I put them in strollers and had her watch them nearby, while my husband and I hung out with our friends.
As for the resort itselft, it's small & secluded. There is a bar & grill, if you miss the buffet meals. There are a few pools, including a baby pool and another pool with a large slide. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly! Someone always came by to refill drinks! There are many play areas for the kids, a fitness center, game room, disco room, gift shop, salon & spa. There is no real "beach" area, so you are allowed to walk over to the sister resort next door (about 500 feet away). There are water sports, hikes and tours that you can do. The rooms are nice & clean. The bathroom was clean but could definitely use some updating! The water pressure was insane. More often than not, it was just a trickle! And it was nearly impossible to regulate water temperature!!
Since we were attending a wedding, we weren't able to partake in the activities offered by the resort. I would definitely recommend this place to people with younger kids! I think preteens/teens would be bored though.
