This was by far our worst hotel stay in Puerto Rico, and our most expensive. We originally had reservations at the hotel's other property, La Candela, which was even scarier. There was nothing else available through them except the Herencia, and the entire city of San Juan was sold out, we called everyone. So basically, we were sleeping in our car, which is what we should have done, or at Casa Herencia, which we are told is being offered right now for $200 a night only because the property is still being worked on, though we are told our room is finished, and that the rooms will be going for $500 a night shortly. We are given this beautiful brochure and figure it will be worth the splurge and since we have absolutely no other options, we go for it. We get there and there is a huge padlock on a fence, and then our room is this awful place, with a few friendly roaches that decide to greet us at night. The place is discusting! The outlets weren't covered, the wall are "finished" in this way where paint is just kind of thrown on them and wiped around, giving it that charming "rustic" look, what a scam! The headboard is not even connected to the bed, so as we move around at night it crashes against the wall, and we can't sleep because the place is so dirty, so of course, we are up all night. The TV gets about 3 channels, though it is supposed to have cable. This place was horrible and I can't believe they are going to try to get $500 a night for it. Save your money, and stay at El Convento if you are planning to drop that kind of money on a room.
