Each room is an experience in itself as each is unique. We stayed in the "Janmari" room (each one has a name, along with the usual room #) and loved it's layout and location at the Inn. This particular room is up a number of steps so it's not for the weak though. Powerful air conditioning cools the room almost instantly. The location of the Inn is also superb for exploring Old San juan, just walk everywhere or jump on the free tram or bus right in front of the Inn. The new pool at the Inn is one of the best I've ever seen. WHAT A PLACE! Not really just a Hotel or an Inn, it's a destination itself. Loved it there!

This was my third stay at the Gallery Inn. I love the art work, the parrots, the plants and decor. I have stayed in three different rooms and all were interesting in design and had very comfy beds. This place is a unique experience and is easy walking distance to super resteraunts in old San Juan. I visit Puerto Rico on business reguarlly, and I really like staying there.

“An exquisite home away from home”

I am a very picky traveler and more times than not I look forward to returning home. But staying at the Gallery Inn was like catching a glimpse of paradise, leaving me with a profound sadness at checkout time.

I stayed in the room called Stevie which had a balcomy overlooking the exquisite pool and surrounding lush gardens. I could not have had a more peaceful experience. I almost expected some celestial cherubs to fly into my room from the courtyard. The tempurpedic mattress is to die for.

The pictures on the inn's website do not do justice as to what it looks and feels like to stay there. I felt like I was in a European countryside inn tucked into Old San Juan. The physical charm of the place is only surpassed by Jan's willingness to create an enduring experience for her guests. At the end of a day of grueling sightseeing with the temps in the 90's, I was delighted to find a surprise string concert that would have soothed even the most savage beast.

I wholeheartedely endorse the Gallery Inn.

“Ambiance and Art”

The Gallery Inn

29 May 2008

We just returned from 5 incredible days at the Gallery Inn in Old San Juan. The building is more than 300 years old, with sunlit courtyards, water features, and tropical birds calling 'Ole'. The Inn's owners, artists Jan and Manuco, have turned every courtyard and every room into a small gallery of paintings and sculpture. It is impossible to turn your head without seeing a fantastic piece of art.

One of the most incredible parts of the hotel is the swimming pool which looks like it was unearthed from ancient ruins. At night, sitting on the large daybed next to the pool with a glass of wine and munching on cheese, the lighting around the pool creates a romantic and relaxing environment.

The service was unbelievable from the front desk to the kitchen. Everyone went out of their way to help us - either with a mini-crisis averted when a bag was missing or by remembering exactly how we liked our cafe con leche in the morning.

Jan and Manuco treated us like personal guests in their home and not like customers. Their warmth and charming personalities made this vacation a fantastic experience we will never forget . We highly recommend the Gallery Inn to anyone who wants to relax, get a sense of history, and loves art.

“Interesting Experience”

We stayed for three nights at the Gallery Inn in early March 2008. While it was a very interesting experience, I am not sure that I would choose to stay there again. As described by others, the hotel is located in a historic building in a prime location in Old San Juan. The owner is an artist, and the hotel is full of her artwork. There are many delightful nooks and crannies to explore, as well as inviting open-air courtyards, filled with tropical plants and colorful parrots. The light breakfast and evening wine and cheese that are served on the outdoor rooftop terrace are very enjoyable. Each of the guest rooms is unique, and your experience at the hotel will probably be determined by which room you are assigned . I do not recall the name of our room, but it was up a very narrow metal spiral staircase. It had a window facing an internal courtyard, as well as french doors opening onto a rooftop terrace with a lovely view, shared with the room next door. The room had a queen bed, and a small sitting area. Unfortunately, the room air conditioner unit was not working, and although they tried to fix it, it continued to not work for our entire stay. When I asked if we could move to another room, the only one available was an attractive room in the front of the hotel, but it had no ensuite bathroom, and you would have to use a bathroom in the hall shared by three rooms. We opted to stay in our original room, and we slept each night with all of the windows and french doors open for air. Also, the shower in our very small bathroom had a quirky shower head, that kept changing from hot to cold water no matter how I adjusted the handle. It was very tricky to take a shower without getting scalded, or drenched with cold water. Given the price that we were paying for the room, I did not feel that we were getting a good value with this room. If you choose this hotel, I would definitely ask to see the room before committing to it. But if you come during the busy season as we did, you may not have many other options if you find that you do not care for the first room that you are assigned.
