ServiceIn order to qualify as a dump, they would need to make some major improvements. We had room 4 which the overhead lights didn't work in the bedroom, the bathroom light was hit or miss, only a dribble out of the shower if you wanted warm water (and that only after letting it run 10 minutes). No windows, just shutters (with screen) which didn't close. Traffic on the street, is 24 / 7 and a horn is required equipment in Puerto Rico! Breakfast consisted of your choice of white or wheat bread, watered down OJ and coffee. OK, I like strong coffee but this stuff would kill most people! The drop ceiling had dust bunnies (never saw those on a ceiling before), the drapes were ragged, the carpet simply nasty, hey - but the TV worked! I will say that the sheets & bathroom were clean (amazing with the lack of hot water). The public areas are in reasonable shape, but at least room 4 is a nightmare. SAFETY ISSUE - batteries had been removed from at least one smoke detector in the common hallway, and the one in our room was beeping to indicate it's battery was also shot.

The hotel is not expensive at all and so you should keep in mind that you will not be walking in to the Hyatt or anything of that sort. I rated this hotel above average because of the pricing and expectations. After reading reviews, I was somewhat scared of what I had gotten myself into but once I was there, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. When we got there, my boyfriend and I, we were in P.R. to see my father and also to have some "time off", we were limited with money so we chose to stay there for one week at Casa Del Caribe. Upon arriving at the place we simply came accross a nice "homely" hotel, very well secured with gates everywhere. Once we came in, we were greeted, very friendly, by the lady at the front desk. She proceeded to give us the key to our room and show us around. There was a schedule for a continental breakfast and there were magazines and maps by the front desk. They had a nice setup there. A nice pond, with fishes, a cage with some birds and a house cat, well taken care of by the way. I must say that the parking was TERRIBLE because they charged us five dollars a day to park inside the gates but then the alley to get out in the morning was usually blocked by the maid and so we had to go tell her to please move her car. I guess it was worth it because it is very hard to find parking at night there. The hotel is located in a very central area and it is minutes away from "El Condado" touristic area and is a block away from the beach. The room was cleaned every day and the a/c worked just fine, thank goodness because P.R. is very hot. I enjoyed my stay, the room was clean, I did not find any bugs, because I would have had a FIT, the people are friendly and you can't beat the price. I suggest that if you do plan on going to Puerto Rico, you take some Easy Off for mosquitos, there are many of those no matter which hotel you stay in. Good luck.

We stayed at Casa Del Caribe. I too was somewhat worried after booking my room and then seeing some unflaterring remarks in some of the reviews. IF you are looking for 4 Star service, rooms and quality (and you are crying about your 'terrible' experience at this fine Inn) then you should have walked your butt literally a half a block up and across the street and stayed at the marriot for 3 times the price of this fine quaint Inn.
There is so much to do in the Candado area that we were never in our room anyway! If you need to be pampered like a prima donna that you think you are ......go somewhere else! Pay literally 3 times more and knock yourself out. If you want a decent, clean, room in the best area of Candado Beach, (everything literally within walking distance) this is your place. Do not expect Casa Del Caribe to be something it is not.
You whiners kill me .....GET OVER YOURSELF!

I just got back from Puerto Rico. We didn't even have enough time to see the whole island, and we saw TONS. From one end to the other PR is filled with fun and interesting things to see and do. If you just want to go to the beach, PRican beaches are beautiful. Rent a car if you go, it was a great move. DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM TARGET CAR RENTAL. We stayed in the Condado area. Hip, and always busy. If you stay in that area go to Tijuana's for dinner, and further down the same road, Le Patisserie for breakfast. We stayed at Casa Del Caribe. It is small with only a few amenities howver, the people were so nice and shared valuable island info with us. Puerto Ricans are a wonderful and friendly group of people. The only problem girls is that PRican guys are NOT SHY. They will tell you if they like you. Take bug spray. PR is a great vacation whether you have a big budget or small. Check various websites for a great deal. We used Cheaptickets. All in all. I can't wait to go back see it all over again and get in everything we missed!! Have fun.
