The last reviewer got it right, however was too kind. We got a good deal on Hotwire as well thinking one night at a two star hotel couldn't be that bad. Rundown hotel, with very marginal appointments, bed and bathrooms. Would not stay there again.

I stayed at the Regency for 1 night recently. I admit that I got a good deal on Hotwire, but this time I lowered my standards and took a lesser quality, 2 star, hotel thinking, "It's only for 1 night, it can't be too bad." I was right. For 1 night only, it wasn't horrible, but I would not recommend staying there for a vacation, unless you don't mind rooms that open to the outside, very old bathrooms with condensation dripping from the ceiling and carpet scary to walk on with bare feet. The building is in the shape of a "T" and there is a hallway across the front of the building, but it's open at one end and rooms down the side open to the outside. I could easily hear the group of kids in the room next door until late. The lobby is barren. Even if both elevators are working, expect to wait a long time because they are terribly slow. If you're like me, and look for good rates on Priceline and Hotwire and don't really care which hotel it is, as long as it's nice, then stick with the 3 stars and up hotels in San Juan.

My friend and I stayed at the Regency hotel earlier this month and were very pleased with the accommodations. We have had the experience in the past of getting a shabby room because we paid less, but the Regency exceeded our expectations. Our room was large and very clean. The hotel staff are extremely helpful. Do not job the hotel by the lack of decor in the hallways. I honestly don't understand the complaints in some of these reviews. We saw no problems. If you want the Hilton, stay at the Hilton. If you want a nice hotel for a lot less money, stay at the Regency. We used the pool and it is very nice. I would definitely stay there again.
We booked our stay at the Regency through an online discount service that doesn't reveal the name of the hotel until after booking. Before arriving, we read and were encouraged by several of the other reviews above, despite the low star ranking. Upon arriving however, I was quite disappointed to see that the sagging old building with peeling paint and mildew stains was to be my accomodation for the next four days. The building and decor are severely dated. Our first room was ocean view but it was very damp (even the pillows were moist and the walls were sweating) and moldy. The carpet was old, ripped and stained, the chair had a burned out hole in it, and the bed covers smelled awful. The staff did what they could to reaccomodate us, however, and we were given a different room. Please note, the first floor is not great, but it is far better than the other levels. Our new room was better but smaller and located right in front of the breakfast area, which gets quite roudy with kids in the mornings. The continental breakfast, by the way, consists of coffee, bread and danishes. All in all, it was a roof over our heads, not a place I would stay at ever again. The only highlights were that the staff was nice and the Wyndam facilities are available next door. Do yourself a favor and pay a little bit more for a better stay. (by the way, the pool looks nice, but noone uses it, which could be good and bad.)
From start to finish everything was great. We stayed 14 nights at the hotel. The staff was very friendly. resturant in hotel has been closed for a while thou. You can used all the fac. at the conado plaza hotel .... cool...
You get what you pay for. And from the staff too.
