Where should I start my entire encounter with Miramar was a nightmare.........Upon our arrival (@ 2am) the front desk clerk stated that there was no reservation made under my name. Thirty minutes or so later he found that our reservation number matched the name they had reserved the room under. Then came the issue of our family size, Walter the clerk stated that they could not accommodate us due to our large family (my wife & I, & our 4 kids). He said we would have to book another room which was not close to the other room, after another 20 or so minutes he said we had to pay $50 for two of the kids. Which we were fine with, Walter stated that he would talk to his manager in the morning and that someone would CALL US if there was a problem. We left early in the morning to go sightseeing and never received a call from the hotel staff. After a long day of fun in the sun and attending the festival in Old San Juan, we returned (@1:30am) to the hotel to find our weeklong prepaid room had been blocked, again due to our family size. Walter said that we should have called and spoke to the manager and because we didn't they blocked our access to the room. I reminded him that he told me if their was a problem that they would call us, so again I paid $50 more dollars and at 2:00am Walter gave my wife access to the room so that she could put our kids to bed. I stayed down in lobby talking to Walter trying to get this resolved and he said that I would need to talk to the manager in the morning. 8:00 am we got a call from Jill, stating that they could not accommodate us and that we would have to get a second room or move to another hotel. We decided to find another hotel as we felt like we were being treated unfairly for being a large family. I called Orbitz to see what they could do to get our money back being that the staff at the Miramar did not want us there. Orbits spoke to clerk at Miramar and the best they would do is refund only 4 days, charging us for the day we left even though check out was at Noon. As we were getting ready, I found that my watch I left on the night stand the previous morning was missing. My wife and I searched all our bags and suitcases; looked under the beds behind the night stands and could not find the watch. When we went to check out (@11) we notified the desk clerk (Jill) and she said what was it a Rolex very sarcastically. My wife told her that once we returned back home she would send her all the information on the watch. Jill said that they would look into it, but in a tone that lead my wife and I to believe they had no intentions of doing anything. Then to top it off when we went to get our rental car from their valet parking we found that they had parked it up on the cement block and when we backed out it scraped underneath the car. Luckily there was no visible damage to the bumper. One last bit of information the surrounding neighborhood is a bit intimidating I didn't feel safe walking around there at all! This experience put a real damper on our annual family vacation and left my kids to feel insecure and scared not knowing where they were going to be sleeping the remainder of our stay in Puerto Rico. Like they say there are bad apples in in every bunch and we found the entire bunch at the Miramar hotel. We strongly suggest Not to stay at the Miramar and if you do BEWARE and keep all your belongings with you at ALL TIMES! There is staff there with real STICKY Fingers as they clean your room they really clean your room of your valuables.
