You will never be treated nicer. This place is quaint, the owners are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, it is 2 blocks away from the beach, close to bus that takes you to old San Juan, and museums. Close to places to eat (try Pinky's!). We had a lovely time. If you like small places with character, stay here. Not many people know of it, so be sure to provide directions to the taxi driver. Costs $17 to take taxi from airport.

I stayed at Andalucia for four days in March and had an outstanding experience. I'm a 40 y/o male and travel considerably with my company. I am getting tired of the Hilton/Marriott/Hyatt cookie cutter approach and wanted to try something with more flavor and style. I picked up on Andalucia from TripAdvisor and thought I'd give it a try. I came over for one week of business (unfortunately no vacation time) and the place worked very well for me.

My room had a king bed, work table, AC, TV and very nice flavor. It was extremely clean and bug-free (those are both extremely important to me). Aida, the person who cleaned my room, even organized my toiletries neatly in the bathroom. She was amazing.

The bed was comfortable bed and I enjoyed working on my laptop in the evenings (free wireless) overlooking the little courtyard with the breezes blowing through the room.

It was very quiet and the guests I did run into were very pleasant. Emeo & Esteban were outstanding as hosts and got me everything I needed from an ironing board and iron to tips on where to eat. They even helped me with my Spanish because I couldn't find anyone else who was fluent in both languages.

There was always enough parking for me when I got in late and there is an amazing bakery, Kasalta, two minutes walking distance. I had to travel to Ponce (1.5 hrs away) one of the days and took the people I was visiting a gift of Kasalta baked goods. They were very excited as I guess the place is famous island-wide and just outside the doors of Andalucia.

I can't say much about the beaches--didn't get to them but they were close. SJ wasn't far and I walked to Walgreens one night at around 10:30pm to get some ice cream and felt very safe.

There was nothing negative about the place that I found. The hot water turned warm after a while but I'm used to 30 minute hot showers at home and should not expect that when I travel--I still got a nice hot 7 -10 minute shower any time I wanted it.

There is only one problem, now that I think about it. Andalucia was my first experience away from the aforementioned luxury hotels and I'm afraid it set a standard that won't be met at other guest houses or B&B's. I think I got spoiled by their hospitality, cleanliness, safety and comfort.

We had just completed traveling around the island of Puerto Rico
and stayed at a different hotel each day. We had found this place oon trip advisor and we decided to try it. It was a fantastic find. The place was very clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. The owners were great. There was a great restaurant across the street and two blocks up for most any kind of food. Within a few blocks of the beach for a great walk. It was very close to many major attractions, short cab ride from many great restaurants in the condado area. Very much look forward to staying there at our next visit to Puerto Rico.

“Great guest house”

We stayed at this guest house for four nights. Emeo and Esteban are awesome. They are the most helpful people ever! They helped arrange a lot of things for us, including taxis and activities. For example, we wanted to do a bioluminescent kayaking tour, but we were only able to get the later tour. Esteban called another kayaking tour company and got us in at the earlier tour, which is what we had wanted.

You can borrow their boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, and even insect repellant (which we used for hiking El Yunque, the rainforest). They had great tips on where to eat and what to see and do because these are the things they would do or places at which they would eat. The guest house itself is small and quaint. There is a small courtyard and a small jacuzzi. They also have a bookshelf full of books you can borrow to take with you to the beach. We got in after 12 midnight due to flight delays and Esteban cheerfully greeted us at the door. Even though it was so late, he still gave us driving tips to the rainforest and where to eat breakfast the next morning because we had still planned on taking off early the next day.

The beds were comfortable, and the room had basics for a small kitchen with a cutting board, silverware, refrigerator, and microwave. Cable TV and wireless internet were available. The room had an air conditioning unit, which helped for the hotter nights. One night, the power went out, and all of the streets had no power or lights, but they had turned the emergency generator on, which was great. Rooms were neatly made each day. There's not a lot of shelf space in the bathroom, and for three girls, that can get a little tight, but we managed. Because this is a guest house, there is not breakfast served, but you can walk down the street to various cafes for meals.

Location-wise, it's about a 3-5 minute walk to the beach and a 10-15 minute cab ride to Old San Juan and 15-20 minute cab ride to the airport. The guest house is located in a more residential area of town, so it's quieter at night. We rented a car the first 2 days, and there are 6 parking slots, so it's first-come, first-serve for parking. Parking can be tight, but cars are also smaller in Puerto Rico. Emeo and Esteban are very thorough about everything, and both speak excellent English. They are very welcoming and very knowledgeable.

This is a great guest house with wonderful welcoming owners. Because this is a guest house and the owners are on the property, I feel that you are able to get a more personalized, charming, local experience that you would not find if you stayed at a chain hotel or resort hotel. I would definitely stay there again.

“Andalucia guest house”

Andalucia Guest House

My friends and I went to Puerto Rico for the first time in February. We chose this guest house based on #1 cost and #2 reviews we had read on trip advisor. Overall, we had a great time and were please with our accomodations.

First off, if you are looking for a 5 start resort hotel, with 24 hour service, breath taking rooms, a play area for little kids; then this is NOT the place for you.

The room we stayed in was about $150 per night after taxes. It was of reasonable size, with 2 double beds, a minifridge, microwave, TV, air conditioning, and wireless internet. The bathroom was simple, clean and functional. Everyday, housecleaning did tidy up.

The location was also very charming. Located in Ocean Park, it is literally only a 2 min walk from the beach. The beach itself, has soft sand and clear, blue waters which were calm enough to just float on but with enough of a wave to boogey board if desired. The great things about this beach, is that it was not overwhelmed with crowds or screaming little kids. My sense was that in addtion to low key tourists, the other beach dwellers there were from the local neighborhood.

The neighborhood itself of colorful, with lots of different authentic restaurants. We were intentionally seeking out places with the most authentic cuisine and as a result, wound up in small cafes/ restaurants where, at times, no one spoke English. I was pleasantly surprised at the warmth of reception we received from local folks who tolerated our broken spanish with great warmth and patience.

Most importantly, our hosts (Emeo & Esteban), were pleasant and very helpful in recommending things to do. They were very hospitable. Remember though, that there are only 2 of them and that as human beings they have to eat and sleep. So, do not expect them to be at your beck and call 24 hours a day.

To my parents, who like to be pampered a bit and feel uncomfortable in any place where they do not speak the language, I would no recommend Andalucia. For people like me and my friends, who have to consider cost and want to get off the beaten path a little, I would recommend checking this place out. As long as your expectations are reasonable, you should have a good time.

I would recommend the following:

If you rent a car, go to the Walgreens 2 blocks over from Andalucia and invest in a map of San Juan and the entire island. Driving directions given by people who live in San Juan tend to be oversimplified.

Try "mofongo."

Beaches at night in Puerto Rico are not safe at night (nothing happened to me or my friends, but we were told this so I'm just passing it on. Also this goes for all the beaches and not just the one in Ocean Park)

If you're a US citizen, don't worry about bringing a passport.

The currency in Puerto Rico is the good ol' american dollar.

Go to the bioluminescent lagoon
