We had a similar experience. I had a map with directions so the taxi dropped us on the correct street, but the name and address of the place is nowhere to be found. We waited awhile in the rain until we could track Pablo down and he let us in. We rented the top floor room with a terrace. The roof has a great view, but litter is a problem. The bed was comfortable, the A/C and bathroom worked, and that is about all I can say. The location is great, right in the middle of the bar and restaurant district and within walking distance of all of the sights. There is a wide variety of places to eat and drink just steps from your door, as well as pulsating music until 3 AM, but plain earplugs were sufficient to sleep with on the 3rd floor. I cleaned the mirrors and fixed a few items: the sink was slow to drain, the bathroom roof leaked, shower head clogged, and the towel bar and tissue dispenser were broken which I could not fix, but I got the door locks working and shutter bolts (which were painted shut) to actually lock. If you stay there, there is an iron gate at the entrance but you should treat your belongings as you would at a hostel because the room door locks are substandard (a padlock hasp, and bring your own padlock, on the room doors would be a great addition). I would also bring my own towels and a bed net next time. Although the mosquitos were pretty tame.
