I find Martinique to be expensive... and of poor value. I had stayed the previous weekend at the Fregate Blue hotel which was charming in a "grandmother's cottage" sort of way... great people, great view but a little too close to nature for me (e.g. 2 mosquitoes in the room feasted on m ankles. This time I needed to find a more business-like hotel (i.e. Internet access)... a search of the web and tripadviser.com yielded an assortment of questionable properties unless you were willing to pay the high rates of the Sofitel. So I settled on this hotel as a compromise. The good news is there is optional WiFi Internet access but only in the lobby and the bar/restaurant (which are not air conditioned... not a problem this time of year but I have a finicky laptop that doesn't do well when over-heated. The facilities are basic... but comfortable enough... the staff were great. I forgot my purse in the lobby (after and online session) and they actually called me in my room to tell me they had my purse! Which made up for the fact that my room wasn't done by the time I retrned to my room at 2pm for 3 out of 4 days.
Aside from breakfast (which is included and is an extensive continental buffet) the food was inedible and expensive (e.g. 32 Euros for a buffet dinner at which I only ate a bowl of chili.) So... I hiked up to the nearby Sofitel which is beautiful and I had a lovely dinner... then had stomach problems for the next two days.
The hotel is near a little tourist village and that is a plus, if you don't have a car. There are restaurants there that aren't bad and a very good Italian Ice Cream place.
It would be good if Martinique could manage to provide a few more mid-range choices for a business hotel.
