Hi,

I am not going to say anything other than we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and we were then when they had the earthquake in Martinique - 7.3!! our earthquake has just reminded me.

Some points that I had asked before hand.

1. You CAN smoke outside and on your balcony.
2. Although we had a t.v., we only received limited channels.
3. When we arrived in our room, we had two beach towels left
and all you had to do when you wanted a clean one was leave them on the bathroom floor of an evening and they would be changed for you.
4. The electrical current is the same as here i.e. three pin plugs so there is no need to take a travel adaptor.
5. They were quite strict about clothing in the resteraunts, you could not wear jeans and a tee shirt. Combats were o.k.s though!!
6. Although there were a few shops on the complex, a five minute stroll into Rodney Bay (turn right on leaving the hotel)
and there was an airconditioned shopping mall that sold everything imaginable and alot cheaper than the hotel itself.
7. We didn't get bitten by mosquitos whilst we were there, but we saw alot of bitten people so make sure you pack repellent.
8. The transfer from the airport is very long as you have to travel through the rain forest so before you leave the sirport use the loo and make sure you have something to drink with you.
8. The airport has very few shops, so I suggst you do any souvenier shopping in the mall I mentioned in Rodney Bay or if you go into Castries.

We ate out a few times as the food, although good was very limited and I have to admit that the resteraunts were fab. The thai in Rodney Bay was to die for. I could go on, other than to say WE ENJOYED OURSELVES - HOPE YOU DO TO!!!

If it wasn't for the St.Lucian next door to the Papillon,my rating wouldn't be this high. Although Reduit Beach is beautiful. The staff at both the Papillon and St.Lucian were polite and alway's seem to have a smile. My toilet had a bit of a problem flushing from time to time. It's an ok "hotel" but next time I think I will seek out other places to stay, especially for the money. I wouldn't necessarily rate this as a 3 star hotel but a good strong 2. The island its self is very very beautiful and the locals are very friendly. If you're looking for a tour of the island,I highly recommend Phillips Tours. Our guide was Jackson and what a wonderful guide he is....My wife and I are returning to St.Lucia with our children next Feb. and we found a better rating resort at lower price.

  • Liked — Friendly staff
  • Disliked — No bang for the buck...Kinda pricey for what it is

After reading some reviews about the rex hotels we were a bit anxious about staying there. However it lived up to its 3 star rating. Admittedly the rooms could do with a refurbish but they were clean, the aircon worked, and mostly had good views. Food was a bit samey but quite good and would definitely recommend the Mariners restaurant rather than the Monarch, if only for the view. We had a few gripes about a hairdrier not working but was eventually sorted and there was a problem with water pressure at certain busy times but it appeared to be only in our block. The swimming pools were both clean and sunbeds plentiful though sun umbrellas were a bit scarce on the ground.
The staff were generally polite and helpful and the entertainments manager,Robert, obviously enjoyed his job.
The location on the beach was good although we didn't spend a great deal on it.
Overall the hotel was value for money and what we expected of a 3star hotel.

We have been holidaying in the Carribean for the last 11 years and this was our first time in St Lucia.
We found the hotel pretty run down and seemed to be the poor relation to the sister hotels which are connected.
The food was poor, the dining room was hidden away and was dreary.
Can't remember any of the staff which is strange because we always have a good rapport with them and i remember staff from 1987 onwards.
The beach was very good but no one about.
The locals were very friendly and we used to spend alot of time going out with them, they really made us welcome and we were bought drinks by them which i have not really encountered before.
There were plenty of trips which were all very enjoyable (wasn't impressed with the volcano though)
Wouldn't go back, sorry.

Do not i repeat do not stay at this hotel at any cost, after arriving in st lucia to be advised our first choice hotel had been overbooked we were taken to this scummy looking shack of a hotel, which is a run down filthy dirty rotten hotel which should be shutdown and rebuilt.
bathrooms need condemming, bedrooms need fumigating, all eating areas need barring as no go areas,im trying still to come to terms with this
hotel. we ate out every day breakfast lunch dinner and snacks even though we had cattle class all inclusive status which i wouldnt feed to pigs. im sorry but the hotel will spoil your dream of st lucia as it did for us so stay clear and dont be fooled by other reviews because they hide the truth of this run down prison camp, all women staff were rude to us,managment didnt want to know they say ey your in the carrabean man enjoy it, id rather goto hell than the rex pappillion st lucian. sorry no photos as they are being sent to travel
agents and abta to let them know of this hotel which they claim is tree $tar. stay at home than stay at this hotel please.
