My husband and I went to Nail Bay again in September this past year and it was wonderful. We stayed in a different villa this time, Drake's Hideout, which is one of the best values at Nail Bay. It has everything you could need, kitchen, king size bed, a/c, grill, washer/dryer, patio and a pool. We enjoyed this villa much more than the one at the Island Time Village because it was much more private, closer to the beach and you had your own pool.
We caught a flight by air sunshine from Puerto Rico to Virgin Gorda but would never do it again. Our flight was delayed several hours and we were told by a local that it happens all the time. They wait until there are enough people to fill the plane. So, if a couple of people book a 2:00 flight and a couple of people book the 5:30, then you will all be sitting around until 5:30. Also, it was supposed to be a non-stop flight to VG, but we stopped at some other island along the way to drop some people off and nobody ever informed us of that. It was weird, and not worth the extra money.
This year we also discovered a grocery store in Tortola where you can go to their website prior to your trip, pick out all the food/drinks you want and they will bring it over to Virgin Gorda and put your groceries away in your villa at no extra charge. It was wonderful to arrive, walk in our villa and already have all our food and drinks put away. The staff at Nail Bay help make this happen. The website is, rtwbvi.com.
A car is pretty much a must here and Mahogany car rentals is wonderful. they will meet you at the airport/ferry with the car.
Nail Bay was once again a fabulous resort with impeccable service. The individual cleaning your room will ask you when is the best time for them to come so they don't disturb your privacy. Rooms are always spotless and you get fresh beach towels every day.
Restaurant is wonderful. The spa needs some work.
Our only complaint is the steep price increase this year. (ie - Drake's hideout went from $150 a night to $225 a night, which is a crazy price increase at anytime but especially during a crappy economy.) However, it is a wonderfully peaceful place and you should probably go now before all the new development starts. They're supposedly building a hotel and a massive dock slip there. so, I'm guessing before too long it will not be quite the peaceful, private place that is now.

We stayed for 4 nights at Drake's Hideaway Studio and were stunned by the landscaping of Nail Bay. The view from our lower half of Drake's, the very private pool, and the room accomodations caused even my husband to say this was the most romantic place we have ever stayed.

Here's the 411 on room amenities:

fresh flowers in every room
a king sized bed w/many pillows
jacuzzi tub in bath
handcrafted soaps and other custom toiletries
make-up mirror
thick, luxurious towels
daily room service (except Sundays -don't worry, the staff leaves extras on Sat.)
Emeril Cookware and every type of utensil one can think of
seashell shaped icecube trays
A/C + ceiling fans thruout
private porch with grill, swing, and rinsing station
pool area has thoughtful selection of tables, chairs and loungers w/out being cluttered (and a view to die for)
beach towels, a cooler, bug spray and rechargable flashlights are provided

The staff is very attentive. As many have stated, Kasha is a gem and was a big help before and during our stay. We also want to thank Ravi a hundred times over as he saved our trip. On the day we were to leave (which was a national holiday and very few ferries were running), we woke up to find our rental car had a flat tire. There was no tire iron and even the spare tire was flat! We called the rental agency a couple of times but got only a recording. Naturally, we were in a panic but Ravi took time out of his day off to inflate our spare and find a tire iron so that we could change the tire and race to the ferry dock.

During our time, we visited the Baths, which were incredible. Definitely take the path to Devil's Bay. It's a lovely short adventure thru foilage, rocks, and a small cave. Snorkeling at the Baths was better than expected given the crowds who frequent it. On other's advice, we went very early and had the place to ourselves for about an hour. It was fun thereafter watching people arrive and jump (and sometimes tumble) out of their boats. We also checked out the following beaches and here's what we experienced:

Savannah-sugar white sand w/dazzling crystal clear, turqoise water. Definitely the best swimming and strolling beach on the island. Has a few tiki huts and raised platforms.

Spring Bay-great "hidden" pool amongst boulders. Picturesque w/swaying palm trees and picnic tables. Good snorkeling.

Mountain Trunk Bay-just a 3 min. walk from Drake's. Very good snorkeling w/many types of coral and fish, clams, stingrays. Others saw turtles.

Mahoe Bay-lots of coral, not as many fish tho'. 2nd prettiest sunning beach.

Long Bay-good shelling beach but it was too shallow for us to snorkel.

Little Dix Bay-somewhat of a let down. The beach was nice but not stunning and the snorkeling was just OK.

Nail Bay-neutral.

We ate at Sugarcane twice and had very good meals each time. Our favorite restaurant was the Mine Shaft. You just can't beat their mixed drinks, the open air dining, the great view and the chickens settling to roost at sunset. The jumby show and buffett at Leverick Bay was good as well.

Lastly, we stopped at Mango Bay resort which ran a close second when we were debating where to stay. It, too, was lovely but we feel we definitely made the right choice. Nail Bay, for us, really was paradise.

It has been over a year since I stayed at Nail Bay, but wanted to leave a review. My wife and I found Nail Bay to be truly amazing. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful and really helped to make the experience better. I read alot of mixed reviews on Nail Bay prior to going on our trip, and was pleased with the decision we made. The dirt road was just that, a dirt road. It wasn't anything too rough, just a dirt/gravel road which they are working to improve.

I will say that where you stay at Nail bay could make or break your trip. We stayed at the sundowner villa and found it exceptional and private. They have lots of different accomodations so do your research and find one that fits you best. This is a wonderful island that isn't spoiled like most by tourism and mass crowds. This is a remote island that most people never get to see. If you have the opportunity you have to take it and go. You will not regret it.

Nail Bay has several beaches. Some are good for swimming and playing in the sand where as others are really only good for snorkeling. The one below sundowner is hard for swimming but offers some of the best snorkeling you will find. Truly amazing for those willing to get out.

Just returned from our 2nd stay at Nail Bay. We previously had visited in 2002. This visit we stayed at Sunset Watch with friends so we rented both the upper and lower units. The Villa was perfect for us. The only design "flaw" is that the units are very seperate. As we were travelling together it did make cocktail and meal time a bit challenging as "where did we leave the rum, etc". However, this is so minor as the views are spectacular from every spot. This Villa was made for entertaining. The terrace is so large and comfortable. The Upper Villa's lanai is so comfortable that we had dinner there 3 nights. Sunsets are truly magical. The gardenia hedge outside the lower unit left a constant wonderful scent.

We experiened the "In Villa Dining" on our arrival night. This was such a wonderful way to start a vacation. Kasha @ Nail Bay had given us all the info prior to arrival so we picked our menu a few days before and didn't need to think about a thing after that. The chef and his assistant were wonderful. The dinner was very good and they even did the dishes!!!!

We also ordered our provisions from Buck's Market prior to arrival. While on the expensive side, it really was wonderful to have the groceries arrive and put away for you after a long journey.

The staff at Nail Bay were wonderful especially Kasha and Joel.

If you are looking for nightlife then Virgin Gorda is not for you. However, if you want a relaxing stay in a wonderful setting then Nail Bay is for you.

We chose the Sugar Mill Rooftop Villa at Nail Bay Resort as our honeymoon destination, and it was absolutely perfect! The villa was exactly as it appears in the pictures, and the entire Nail Bay Resort was better than we could ever have expected. While the road to the Nail Bay Resort teeters between paved and completely rough, once you get to Nail Bay you are met with pristine surroundings. The roads can be rough, but as long as you plan ahead and rent a jeep, you are fine!

Nail Bay is surrounded by great beaches and awesome snorkeling - we loved hanging out at Mountain Trunk Beach in the lounge chairs they had on the beach, and the snorkeling right off the beach was terrific. We also enjoyed Long Bay, right down the street from our villa. That also had great snorkeling, and was virtually empty when we were there. The Baths were neat to see - definitely make your way over to Devil's Bay for a better beach and great swimming! We ate a great rib buffet at the Mine Shaft Cafe on Tuesday evening - the tables are outside on a back deck that has spectacular views, especially to watch the sun set. Just don't let the chickens in the trees scare you. They make a lot of noise, but the scenery and food are great. Otherwise, the Sugarcane Restaurant at Nail Bay has terrific food and we ate there frequently for both lunch and dinner. Guests at Nail Bay can order food from the restaurant anytime and have it delivered to the villas, and you can even make arrangements for a chef from the Sugarcane to cook an entire meal at your villa! Make sure to have the Roti at least once!! We will definitely be back to Nail Bay Resort for another vacation in the future. All of the villas looked great, and I would gladly stay in any of them!
