Wife & I stayed here 12/27/2005 thru 1/1/2006. Loved it. Great island to visit, very secluded. Great hotel. Rooms are OK (several being renovated); beaches very secluded & romantic. No nightlife, just being together for dinner & post-dinner drinks @ bar. GREAT bartenders. Very good food. Different crowd @ dinner each night, as the hotel is a frequent dinner stop for bare boat charters. I.e., one night everyone in t-shirts & swimsuits, next night everyone in silk shirts & nice shorts. Fun.

Still the best place for a short stay

Our first visit for nearly twenty years found Anegada not quite the end of the world it was then, but still a lovely place to relax and forget the pace of the modern world. Last time we were the only boat, this time there were twenty, and this time we stayed at the hotel for two night.
We found the Anegada Reef Hotel is still owned by the same family and still the best place on the island for a short stay. The rooms are fair, and are currently being renovated in stages. The management and staff are pleasant and helpful. It is at the centre of the island life and can arrange everything you need from fishing to car hire. The food is good given the remoteness of the island. Obviously it is not the Sheraton, but surely that is one of the reasons we go to Anegada. A lovely place, good to see the family still running it and we hope to be back again sooner than eighteen years.
One thing to note is that Clair Aero is no longer flying and there is now a ferry from Tortola three - four times a week which allows an easy two night stay.
Also avoid Loblolly Bay on Wednesday when Bitter End send a boat across.
Otherwise perfect.

I took my son- 9years old- to Anegada for a few days of relaxation and swimming. We stayed at the Anegada Reef Hotel and had a very enjoyable stay. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful both with meals and making it to the airport with no time to spare the morning we left. Overall, we were looking for a lot of nothing to do except swim and read and enjoy beautiful snorkeling, which is exactly what we got. The Anegada Reef Hotel gave us a satisfying (if simple) breakfast, a good sandwich and fruit in a picnic lunch at the beach and very tasty dinners beachside where we could watch the sunset. The beaches were amazing and life is very different- the timing, the expectations and the delivery. But paradise is not like living in the big city so for us it was perfect--and that's exactly what we wanted.

I would like to thank the person who wrote the latest review giving the Anegada Reef Hotel a "Terrible" rating. In my opinion it's grossly unfair; however, Anegada is such a paradise that it may discourage people to go there and that way it would remain a paradise and not risk getting over-run the way St. John has gotten. My husband and I are going back there this Christmas for the second year in a row. We're staying at the Anegada Reef Hotel and I'm bringing my sister, who lives in Puerto Rico and who has never been there, to show her how great it is. After living in the Caribbean 18 years I'm sure she still hasn't experienced anything like it.

In 14 years of vacationing in the BVI, we had a disappointing experience on our 5th visit to Anegada. Management at the Reef Hotel must have changed because the dinner was not up to par. The steak was terrible, service was poor, requests for additional side dishes to accommodate our party of 10 were denied. Even the festive atmosphere has changed - we couldn't wait to get back to the boat. During the day, our taxi had a blowout and we had to walk about a mile to Loblolly. When we asked the manager at the hotel to perhaps decrease the taxi fare or at least buy a round of drinks, we were met with a resounding, "no." He claimed he had no knowledge of the mishap nor anything to do with the taxi. Why was the fare added to our dinner bill? They have lost our business forever.
