Our family of five (two adults, three kids) just returned from a 9 day stay at Grand Cayman Beach Suites. It was our first trip to the Caymans.
We loved our experience: the hotel, the staff, the dive operators on site, and the beach is absolutely second to none.
G. Cayman Beach Suites is the PERFECT size in the PERFECT location.
We had a one-bedroom suite for the first few nights and then a two bedroom suite. Even the one-bedroom was sufficient for the five of us with the pull-out couch and a roll-away bed.
When we first arrived and looked around the resort, we thought that both of the pools were too small, but that proved to not be the case at all. Kids and we had plenty of room.
Hemingway's restaurant on site is excellent.
Staff was generally very helpful and pleasant.
My husband and our two boys did 6 -8 dives through Red Sail Sports, right on property. They were first-rate!

ONLY CAVEAT: Beware of the cruise ship passengers and their "club" next door.
Five days a week, multiple cruise ships come into port and their loads and loads of passengers swarm Seven Mile Beach. The beach is public of course, as are the various hotels' bars and restaurants... but we found that some of the cruise people were making themselves at home in the hotel pool and taking up hotel chairs. It's made even easier for them because during their half-day stay, many check in to the beach club right next door to G. Cayman Beach Suites.
However, when we talked to our hotel's management about our frustrations, they really worked to crack down on the interlopers and make sure the hotel's guests were being accommodated.

IN ALL, a fantastic destination and hotel. We can't wait to return to Grand Cayman Island and GC Beach Suites!

I booked the hotel when it was a Hyatt--and there was no problem with my reservation during the transition. I absolutely loved the hotel--small, but the service was amazing and it has two great restaurants on site. In addition you have Red Sail Sports right there--we booked a great trip to swim with the Sting Rays with them (we did more research and booked our Scuba Trip with Cayman Diving College--they were the most responsive and had a great rate--highly recommend them).

Rooms are large and we had an amazing view! Also each pool/beach chair has its own umbrella cover...perfect for the hot sun!

We stayed at the former "HYATT" Beach Suites from March 8-15, 2008 in the 2 bedroom Presidential Suite on the 2nd floor. The view does not get any better! The beach is outstanding. The location is perfect. There is a lot of building going on along 7 mile beach. Lots of new condo/hotels with full kitchens and 3 bedrooms. These units are far less than what we paid at the Beach Suites. This was our 2nd trip to this hotel and probably our last. When traveling with kids of any age you really need to have a full kitchen, especially on this island where the food is outrageously overpriced. We prefer to eat our breakfast and lunch in the room and go out for dinner. To do this properly you require more than a bar fridge, micro and toaster. Our room was very tastefully decorated but was beginning to show signs of wear and tear. The carpet (which needs to be replaced with tile) was shabby. The only complaint I had was with the security on the beach. During the week up to 7 cruise ships come into port. Many of them choose to come to 7 mile beach. There is a cruise beach drop off spot right next door to the hotel. Many of them choose to leave their designated area for quieter spots on the beach. There were several times where I had to call the front desk to have security remove them from our chairs. There were guests of the hotel looking for chairs and not able to find them because the cruisers were occupying them. The security guard was never to be found and it is his job to ask non-hotel guests to leave.

Restaurant Recommendations:
1. Decker's - across the street and very good. Go for all you can eat lobster tails on Tuesday night.
2. Ragazzi - great Italian food and thin crust oven baked pizza.
3. Fisherman's Reef - outdoor dining on the water but on the other side of the island (car is required)
4. Calypso Grille - located right beside #3
5. Bamboo - the best sushi! located in the Beach Suites Hotel

All reservations can be made via the front desk.

This trip was all about R&R and we did not move from the beach. The weather was perfect in every way. Make sure you take nice long walks along the beach. It's a great way to see all the new condos and check out the accommodations for next year's trip to the Caymans.

“Great time in the sun”

Grand Cayman Beach Suites

We stayed at the Beach Suites for 5 nights in mid-February during school break. I was concerned given that I had reserved the hotel prior to Hyatt change - but that concern turned out to be unfounded. The hotel was full or close to full but given that there are only 55 or so rooms it is not that busy. We had a suite facing the sea on the Fourth Floor with a walk-out balcony which is key and should be requested. My wife and I brought our 3 kids with us and had a great time. The suite is big enough for 5 with the adults having the separate bedroom and the kids sleeping on the pull-out couch and cot bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful and willing to recommend great restaurants off site and provide assistance even though the sushi selection and quality was great at Bamboo and the Hemmingway's menu was excellent. We had great food at every restaurant we went to on the island. The rooms were cleaned well and recleaned at turn down - a necessity with 3 sand-ladened children. The pool was great for younger kids (10 and under were mine) and the beach was beautiful. I would stake out the north side of the property given that the Red Sail waverunners and boats depart from the south side of the property - stay as far away as you can.
The only negative we would note is that the bar/restaurant across the street, Decker's - which has good seafood, has live music on thurs-sat. nights so it is noisy on the street side until 11:30 or 12. If this is your concern I would request an interior suite. To eat I would suggest the Lobster Pot toward Georgetown. Great local seafood. Further, if you are going to do any exploring at all I would rent a car. There is free parking in the hotel lot and we were able to get a spot every night.

Caveat: If you are looking for an economical holiday, given the weak dollar, the Cayman Islands is not the place for you. Dinner out for 2 adults and 3 kids with some ETOH ran between $250-350.

Just returned from the Caymans. What a great trip!
The island is the friendliest Island We've been to. The hotel was amazing. The rooms were spacious and clean, and quiet. The views were spectacular. Hemmingways rest. , the food was excellent. The shops were well stocked with everything you could need and more. The Beach was the best. I took some amazing sunset pictures. Can't wait to return. B. Fraser N.Y.
