Rawlins Plantation is right at the top of the Island up a track through the sugar cane. Situated on higher ground, the hotel has spectacular views of the sea and is permanently cooled by the breeze. We stayed in Almond Tree; a cottage with a 15ft by 12ft living room, similar sized bedroom, a bathroom and walk-in dressing room which Pippa loved.. We also had our own veranda that overlooked what looked like our own private part of the garden.

All the cottages are dotted around the grounds that extend to some 15 acres with lawns, vistas and palm trees. The main house has a lounge and dining room each with its own veranda onto the mountain and sea respectively.

It is quite here; there are no casinos and nightlife is restricted to a three-piece jazz group on Thursday nights, which draws in locals and diners. But the location is idyllic, the food very good and the staff friendly. The fixed 4 course dinner each night gives you the chance to sample things you might not have chosen, but you have the flexibility to swap items with the à la carte menu. The wine list is extensive and includes some very good French wines as well as a selection from the rest of the world.

You will need a car for part of your stay, although getting a taxi to the capital is relatively easy and the staff will give you a lift when they go into town. There is the odd mosquito, but our room came ready equipped with spray, repellent and a good net – which compared to most other hotels, is really good.

We really enjoyed Rawlins, found the other guests fascinating and Kevin extremely obliging, but with breakfast as well, this place can seriously damage your waste line.

Hi my name is Blondelle, I just got married recently and we spent our first honeymoon night at Rawlins Plantation. If I had my way, I would have stayed forever. However, it was really romantic. My husband and I stayed in the Honeymoon suite, better known as "The Mill." Its an old sugar mill that was refurbished into a honeymoon suite, it was quite ecstatic and overwhelming, the ambiance in its entirety set the atmosphere for romance and indeed it was romantic and well-spent. The grounds and the quietness of our surrounding there welcomed nothing but peace and tranquility. We had a wonderful honeymoon, thanks to Rawlins Plantation and my advise to anyone who wants to set a standard for their marriage life of joy and love, please visit RAWLINS PLANTATION! Zai you were wonderful.

Just returned from a week at Rawlins Plantation. It was wonderful! It offered pure relaxation and pampering in a naturally beautiful setting. This is a small and intimate resort with only 10 rooms - each in individual and unique cottages. We stayed in "Lemongrass" which offers spectacular ocean views of St. Eustatia and blazing sunsets through coconut trees. The grounds are impeccable and the accommodations are charming, comfortable and clean - with fresh flowers gracing antique furniture. The food was described to me by a local as "the best on the island" and I don't doubt it for a moment. Our package included breakfast, afternoon tea and 4-course dinners that were consistently delicious and generous. If you don't stay here, be sure to experience a meal here, especially their famous daily lunch buffet - a real carribbean treat! Our package also included a champagne breakfast (that never hurts), a 3-day car rental to roam this scenic island, and an interesting tour of the rainforest given by a hugely knowledgeable and gracious man by the name of Oliver. Although my husband walked to a beautiful secluded beach every day, I preferred to hop in the car. Rawlins is under new ownership, and although we haven't stayed here before, I overheard several people comment that the place never looked better. Which doesn't surprise me - it's picture perfect. I also understand that they will be adding new cottages in the coming year. No hesitation in recommending this place ... unless you're looking for lots of activity, CNN in your room and crowds of people.

I stayed for five days and was sorry to leave - athough for the sake of my waistline, I'm glad I did! The food was so delicious - the lunchtime buffet was lovely, and a four-course meal every night... everything was beautifully cooked, and so fresh. Zai was a wonderful hostess and made you feel so welcome. The gardens are so pretty - a real pleasure to explore them, and the views from the verandah are spectacular. I'd really recommend this hotel if you just want to chill out, walk and get some real R&R.

“Peace and rejuvenation in the hills of paradise”

Rawlins Plantation Inn

We have just returned from a dream vacation in S.t Cristopher (S.t Kitts) and on Nevis Island. We have sampled 5 days of pure bliss att Rawlins plantation. This is an old sugar plantation at the northernmost tip of S.t Kitts. It is quite a long drive from the airport but the present owner, miss Zai, continues to follow the tradition of the former owners, Paul and Claire Rawson, in that Your package rate includes an automobile! And a gorgeous breakfast and dinner, making this the best-priced package deal of the island! Good snorkeling beaches are a good drive away, but You can find the most beautiful and totally deserted beach north of Fig tree bay, a couple of miles to the south, and the famous lava sand beach of Dieppe bay, where the caribbean and the atlantic meet, a 15 minute drive to the north. There is a price to pay for solitude...Clearly, if You are looking for an all-activity beach hotel like the four seasons or any other 1000+ room complex Rawlins is not for You.Rawlins is a trip back in time, to the days of courteous service and relaxed living. It is most suitable for lovers, overworked doctors or people that just need to relax and unwind in the loveliest old-style surroundings. And chances are low that You will meet Your horrid cousin and her ten screaming children.

With just 10 rooms, Rawlins is able to retain the tangible air of exclusivity, without jacuzzis, CD-roms and DVD players. Actually, the rooms do not have TV, radio or phones. Daily magazines are NOT delivered either, so I missed the release of Michael Jackson with a few days. Big deal! I have not felt so relaxed in years!

The road up to the plantation through the fields of high sugarcane immediately puts You in the mood . There are no lights, a dirt track, and, after a few winding kilometres, the friendly lights of the mansion and the aroma of what must be the island´s best cooking greets You! And a lovely welcome from your courteous and refined host, miss Zai, owner of the establishment. Her caribbean style buffet lunch is also known across the island and not to miss. Generally, cooking here is more carib influenced than the other plantations, and delightfully so. Local produce is used whenever possible. Breakfast is gorgeous as well, with freshly made passion fruit juice as a delightful choice.Accommodation is in charming little cottages furnished in old english style. The landscaped garden is huge, there are hammocks and easychairs everywhere at inviting spots and miss Zai even grows most of the vegetables and spices used in the kitchen. There is a small but refreshing pool and a well-stocked library for rainy days and utter relaxation in the hammock as well as tennis courts and a croquet lawn. Air condition is being introduced into some of the cottages but the northern trade winds cool the cottages at night anyway.
The night is an experience by itself, alone with the stars and the sea. Since no other habitations are near the feeling is of utmost serenity. You may even wish to sleep out under a mosquito net!The view from the cottage (or the pool-or the restaurant )towards Statia and Saba as well as S.t Maarten is magical and the only neighbours You will ever meet are the first owners of the plantation who live "next door". One is a very accomplished artist and her collection is very well worth visiting. Her husband actually built the cottages himself some 40 years ago and his family has been on the island for 330 years! We found everyone we met here to be a joy to be near and share experiences with and left with nothing but new friends and happy memories. And with a wallet with less holes in it than at other plantations. I will not hesitate to warmly recommend Rawlins to people that appreciate what Rawlins stands for: charm, culture, comfort, compassion and- blessed peace and relaxation. If You get restless, Your car takes You all around the island in three hours. It was actually rather sad to meet at least three honeymoon couples staying in other unnamed large hotels who came out to Rawlins to visit and have lunch, and see the sadness in their eyes and hear-If only we had known...But do not spread the word to anyone. We do not want to spoil the magic of Rawlin´s.
