Couldn't agree more mjcohen! We are packing our bags for our 5th visit to Nisbet next week. We have explored other Caribbean islands and stopped once we found Nisbet and Nevis.
It is not for everyone, as other reviewers have pointed out. A crazy beach scene, noisy nightlife, and shopping mecca it is not. This is part of what makes it unique.

The resort is a small, elegant plantation with beautifully appointed rooms, quiet grounds to stroll and a dining experience each evening that cannot be outdone on the island. A wonderful breakfast is served with a smile each morning overlooking the sparkling sea.

Sailing and snorkeling are available as a great highlight to the experience, as are daily car rentals/tours, Botanical Gardens and museums, all of which take 1/2 day. We have also taken day trips to St. Kitts. We haved enjoyed them all.

What we most enjoy is being among our friends at Nisbet. They are the most sincere, warm hearted, caring people, taking care of their guests as family, making sure every need is tended to. Each time we return, there is an instant feeling of relaxation and warmth that is uniquely Nisbet!

My wife and I have just returned from our second trip to Nisbet. If possible, the food was better than the first trip and the staff as competent and caring. I am amazed at the quality of the food on an island of twelve thousand souls. It was nice to be remembered as well.. The beach restoration has had obvious positive effect. The wind did blow but was much preferred to some of the other beaches we visited which were impressively hot(and still).
We took the inaugural nonstop flight from Atlanta to St Kitts, followed by a brief(ten minute) boat ride over to Nevis. This is a much easier arrangement than making connections in San Juan. The hotel made all arrangements and it was seamless.

Are you kidding? The breeze on the beach is delightful! We have been at many places in the Carribean. Nisbet has been our destination for years after discovering it years ago. Staff is wonderful. Food is fantastic. Rooms perfect. Quiet elegance with or without children. Don't come here for activity; come for complete relaxation and the Carribean as it was meant to be.

I'm writing this review because I think that the ratings people give Nisbet are too high and people considering staying here need to be aware of some important issues. The rooms are nice (although ant infested), the food is good, and the staff is great...But, it is VERY windy and the beach is unswimmable due to seaweed in the water. NP makes a huge selling point of being the only plantation on the ocean, but the water is FILLED with seaweed and you can't sit on the beach comfortably due to the high winds. To me, friendly staff and good food can't make up for this. I go to the Caribbean to enjoy the warm ocean water and sit on the beach and I couldn't do this here.

“Nisbet is a Peaceful Oasis”

Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

The Nisbet is a classy and refined hotel set on beautiful and expansive grounds. The beach is a short walk from most guest cottages and is very private and comfortable as is the seaside pool. Our stay was for seven nights during January 2008 and we enjoyed every day. The clientele is upscale but not pretentious - mix of British and Americans (adults). All of the Nisbet staff are well trained and very friendly and go out of their way to provide the highest level of personal service. The breakfast selection is extensive and three course dinner menu filled with a nice variety of choices every evening (typically a chicken, meat, pasta and seafood selection). The main dining room is elegant and perfect for a quiet and delicious dinner after day at the beach. Restaurants near the beach for breakfast and lunch comfortable and pleasant and afternoon tea a nice late afternoon break for those who might enjoy a spot of tea and scones. The superior rooms are nicely decorated with bath amenities, robes and hair dryer. The small gym has bike and treadmill for those inclined to work out after a few nights of great desserts. The Nisbet is an ideal location for those looking for a vacation of quiet rest and relaxation - reading a good book or just enjoying the ocean view from the beach or poolside. By the way, we have stayed in prior years at the Four Seasons Nevis which has an active children's program (and a lot of noisy kids). The Nisbet was a welcome change. We look forward to returning to the Nisbet.
