We loved Nisbet.
- Key staff members make you feel at home and are genuinely concerned about your welfare and enjoyment. They will always remember your name and your preferences. These are the people who give the place its personality. If you visit, you will understand who these people are within a couple of days.
- Supporting Staff members generally do their job consistently and with pride. Overall they got the little things right. We found only one exception: a waitress we had for dinner twice quite rudely tried to rush us through dinner..and we are fast eaters! We reported this before we left are and we are confident that Nisbet will address the performance of this one staff member. Nisbet did not become like it is without correcting problems as they were reported or detected. It was just this one person was so out of character with everyone else at Nisbet.
- Our room was very good. In addition to a nice west indies feel, it had a screened in porch as well as a patio,, both with furniture.. The bathrooms were nice and had well selected amenities. The only let down for us was the bed. We prefer a plush pillowtop mattress. The room had a rather firm unconforming mattress and very average pillows. When we return to Nisbet (and we will return), we hope the beds will be upgraded. (other details: coffee maker, puerto rican coffee, english tea in room; also minibar/fridge, safe with key lock). Effectice AC if needed. Lovered windows in main room that amazingly closed so effectively that they made the room nicely dark for sleeping),
- Housekeeping did a very good job cleaning and refreshing our cottage. They did miss turn-down a couple of times but that was not a big deal to us since we had fresh towels etc.
- Dining was generally very good to excellent on all counts (food and service except for the one person mentioned above). Breakfasts had a good number of menu selections as well as a buffet of items. Lunch was good as well. However dining in the great house was the best. due to the atmosphere and the very nice entrees. If you are a guest on thursdays, dinner is held at the beach side restaurant where they grill out fish, chicken, and beef. This was our least favorite meal because we are not "buffett" people and all the items excepted for the grilled food was buffet. The grilled food was ok but paled in comparison to the food served in the great house.
- The guests we met were "real people" :friendly, laid back, diverse and ."Authentic." Some were "return" guests.
- The grounds are pretty with an "avenue of palms" leading from the great house down a long gradual slope to the beach. You will enjoy the view from the Great House's Tea Patio (tea offered 3:30-4:30
- The beach from what we saw might be one of the most attractive on Nevis. It is well maintained by Nisbet Staff. You will read in this and probably other reviews that the beach is WINDY! And yes it is but for us, this was just not an issue. In fact, the wind during the day kept us comfortable for several hours at a time in the sun. We found sitting at the back of the beach helped somewhat. Where the wind was more of a factor was the evening BBQ since it seemed to really pick up more at night. So as far as wind, expect anything from a steady to stiff breeze to a wind. The wind decreases as you move up the lawn away from the beach with it being more of a soft breeze at your cottage.
- The fitness room has one treadmill, one elliptical, and one bike. It also has some free weights. Generally it was empty when we went to use it but a couple of times, others arrived while we were using the equipment but left rather than wait. Even though they don't have a lot of equipment, we did not experience problems with availability. The equipment is relatively new and very good quality.
- Check In/Check Out: Friendly and professional. You are given your choice of rum punch or non-alcoholic punch. Our room was not ready but we arrived early (around 2:30) but we waited only 1/2 hour. The manager of hotel actually intercepted us on the grounds after checkin and reassured us that our room would be ready by checkin...He just did not have to do that..but that is just the conscientious nature we found present in the staff we encountered.
- We rented a car for our stay but would have been happy just relaxing and decompressing at Nisbet, Since Nevis is small, you can see what there is to see in a day or two.
- The bottom line: The resort is probably not for people looking for a desintation resort with every amenity and a guest experience delivered in a cookie cutter. formal, and in an obligatory way. It is not for people looking for jet skis, floating playgrounds and row after row of chaise lounges. This place IS for people who want a balance or some activity and some peace, who envoy some privacy without being totally anonymous, who can enjoy and appreciate those in a sometimes thankless jobs who are able to subtlely give a place a personality by treating guests warmly. or with pride in their work.
