We were looking for a relaxing vacation and we had just that. If you are looking forward to a small relaxing resort this one is for you.
The room (superior ) was very comfortable and super clean. We had a nice screened in front porch to relax in and have our first coffee in the morning or a last drink at night.
The food, well I can't say enough about the food. I love good food and you need not go off the property to find the best food on the island. The resort has a chef and pastry chef who really know their way around a kitchen. Each night you couldn't wait to see what the specials were. I just hope I didn't gain too much from eating the wonderful food each day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all wonderful as were the servers who became like family by the time we left.
We took the island tour our first day and learned a lot about the quiet island life. The second day we booked a tour through the front office to go snorkeling. It was a beautiful day and the snorkeling was wonderful over by St. Kitts.
We loved sitting on the private beach reading and soaking up the breezy sunshine. Bring a book and relax. The pool was refreshing but watch out for the hot tub as it was way too hot for me.
We plan to return again as this is truly a place to relax and get away from it all.

“Nice beach resort, Dinner service needs help”

Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

Nisbet is a nice property. If you are looking for a beach vacation, you have found a nice property. We are unable to recommend, however the meal plans. The food is a little above average, but the service is slow and at times surly. If you plan to stay on a Thursday evening, plan to attend the barbecue right on the beach -- it's nice, and the service is self-service.

Housekeeping is great, dinner service not good. Don't plan to stay more than 3 days in Nevis, if you can, stay in St. Kitts across the bay and a 45 minute boat ride away for the other days you will stay. If you stay longer than 3 days, you may be bored.

In sum, good for 3 day beach stay, do meals elsewhere.

GETTING THERE: If you are taking a ferry from St. Kitts to Nevis be mindful that the last ferry to the island is usually at 5pm. We missed the last ferry due to a delayed flight and were told by Nisbet staff that we had to take a water taxi at a hefty price of $100-250(US$) per person. After prodding the locals we found a car ferry on the other side of St. Kitts, about a 15 minute car ride, that takes you to Nevis and brings you closer to the Nisbet location at the normal ferry cost -8USDollars. Unfortunately, we were disappointed that this well known fact was not offered as an option by Nisbet staff or the taxi driver representing Nisbet who picked us up from the airport.

WELCOME & ORIENTATION: Good welcome, typical rum drinks, cold towels, warm reception. However, during our stay when entering the office to ask for assistance it often felt like an intrusion. We didn't find the office staff offering much information except what was absolutely necessary (example: finding out the total cost after a car rental which we never did find out!). I got more information logging on to the Internet that is available there.

GROUNDS: Beautiful palm trees everywhere. Avenue of Palms is as grand as it looks. To get to your room there are no pathways which makes for a very natural and organic feel to every stroll. I must admit that it does have a bit of a campy feel. There is a constant breeze on the beach and the beach at Nisbet is beautiful but not ideal for swimming or snorkeling if that is something you desire to do. At times, especially weekends, a spot on this beach was prime real estate. The pool is nice but even that was crowded.

ROOMS: We stayed in a Junior Suite. Very spacious, clean and updated. Decor suits the tropical atmosphere. The balcony has a distant but nice view of the ocean. Not all rooms have a view.
There is a fridge in the room that is well stocked with drinks that a
parched traveler or sun worshipper needs but with overly inflated prices. (Example: Water, small bottle - $3.50, at a local store a large bottle of water costs approx. $1...be mindful that if you go to a local store it is priced in Carribean $) For the price of the stay at Nisbet it would be nice if they gave complementary water.

MEAL PLAN: Breakfast at Coconut's is by the pool and is comfortable and has delicious coconut pancakes and an array of fresh juices and fruit. It was wonderful! Tea Alfresco at 3:30pm was also nice but it is hard to get seating, or you may need to share a table with other guests. TIP: Ask for tea in the main house. Dinner at the Main House was consistently above average. The chef presented a different menu every day with great variety to suit all tastes. Gourmet, portions not to small or large, just right! Creative dishes like wahoo cerviche with avocado harbenero salsa was amazing.

WAIT STAFF: At meals service is quick but once you have your food you are abandoned. If you desire another drink or extra bread plan on waiting if you will ever get it!! The staff is friendly and warm yet it lacks in attentiveness! At times the friendly tone seemed superficial and not genuine, almost awkward!!! There are a few exceptions! Violet had the combined friendliness with the attentiveness. She asked consistently if you needed a refill on coffee she was aware of your needs at all times. She impressed me and she was genuine and grasped what it takes to be in the hospitality industry. Another honorable mention is a waitress, Glendina, she was also aware of people's needs even if she was not waiting on you, combined with her hearty laughter she had a way of making you smile. It is simple but that makes a meal more enjoyable and a place you want to frequent!

BOTTOM LINE: Disappointed, had more expectations based on the reviews. For the price we expected it to equal in quality!

“the most relaxing vacation”

Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

We just returned from a weeks stay at Nisbet and couldn't have been happier with the resort. We chose Nisbet because we wanted a quiet place without a crazy pool scene and lounge chairs stacked next to each other. It took a little getting used to the leisurely island pace, but after a few days we were able to just sit back and relax. We were a little concerned about not having a television, but once we were there we didn't miss it or our computer at all. The 3 hour island tour is a must, it is arranged through the front desk. We went into Charleston to do a little shopping and stayed at Nisbet the rest of the time because we didn't want to leave. The beach is very natural and there are rocks in some places, the seaweed is cleaned up and the beach raked every morning. It has not had heavy equipment hauling in tons of sand and dumped into the water for a perfect footing for tourists. It is a welcome change to visit a place that really feels like an island should. The people are very friendly, we felt very safe and the employees are willing to do anything to make your visit enjoyable. Water sports are nearby if that's your thing, but fortunately you do not need to worry about the noise from water craft at Nisbet. The dinners are fabulous! The desserts are beautiful and delicious. The small exercise room has enough equipment to get in a good workout, and there's a t.v! Our room was lovely, cleaned daily, clean towels brought in twice a day and ice delivered in the afternoon, but available any time. We are looking forward to another visit. This is the place to go if you really want to relax.

I loved Nisbet Plantation, I truly believe it is the best property on the island. When we were there for our honeymoon it was a bit windy, but apparently, if there is no wind at Nisbet the rest of Nevis is scorching. The staff is so friendly, but not over the top. And the FOOD - the best food in the Carribean. I would definitely opt-in to the breakfast/tea/dinner plan, it was well worth the money. Dinner is first class, while I was there, I had venison, lobster, lamb, those are the highlights. Also, their rum party on Thursday is a lot of fun, they serve a lot of different kinds of fish - and it is how you would expect fish to be cooked in the islands. Very fresh. Only drawback is that Nisbet is located quite a ways from the Main Town. I am going to write a separate review of the places we went on Nevis if you are interested in that as well.
