I returned home recently from the Oualie Beach Resort, Nevis (St. Kitts/Nevis) where I had one of the best vacations in many years of traveling the Caribbean. The people are the friendliest I've ever met, including the Oualie Beach Staff and all the local Nevisians. The food and accommodations were excellent and Miss Gloria, the sous chef, makes a Seafood Bisque to kill for! (And she gave me the recipe!) I was very impressed with the"green" philosophy of the resort: solar power to heat the water, recycling, no pesticides on the flora or fauna and on-going protection of the environment, both on land and at sea. There are plenty of water sports at Oualie Beach, all conducted from the dock and beach, which is located in a secluded cove. The resort is small and intimate and just right for me. My vacation was relaxed and low key with no hustle or bustle. I am highly recommending Oualie Beach to all of my friends and relatives. I will definitely go back.

WOW, it was perfect for us. Set right on the beach, and I mean walk out the door of your cottage and into the water, it was like a movie set. We were looking for a place that permitted us to just kick back and let our worries dissolve in a rum punch or two.

Our accomodations consisted of the second floor of a cottage set amongst the palms with the mountain in the back, the blue water in the front, and the Oualie Beach Resturant and bar down by the dock. There were other things to do there in the way of water sports, fishing, and what-not but we were content to watch the hummingbirds, read the book, and work on our mid winter tans.

I have put off writing this review because I would rather keep the secret to myself, but we are thinking of going again and it brings back fond memories of good times, good people, and a great place to enjoy it all.

I've finally found a true throw-back to the old Caribbean...before the McDonalds Arches towered above palm trees.

Oualie offers a great beach...wonderful food and a warm and inviting staff.

It offers a laid-back attitude ... unending warter sports and one of the best beaches I've ever experienced....no rocks or hard surf...it's like walking on warm, wet velvet.

You can spend more money at the Four Seasons but you can't have a better tropical vacation for the money than Oualie Beach.

Oualie Beach Resort was the perfect casual, relaxing setting for myself, my wife, and our 2-year-old son when we vacationed for a week earlier this year.

Our room was spacious and clean with a terrific view of neighboring island St. Kitts and the ocean (all of the rooms are just steps from the surf).

The beach itself is a real treat. The water at Oualie beach is very calm, making it great for children and people interested in snorkling or water sports. This is without question the nicest beach on Nevis. The beach at NIsbet Plantation Inn is also lovely, but it has an almost constant breeze that can be quite gusty at times. By comparison, Oualie is much more tranquil.

The service at the hotel restaurant, bar and reception desk was courteous, friendly and helpful. They made us feel very welome and were very accommodating when it came to the needs of our young son.

The food at the hotel restaurant was very good, and often great. We especially liked their breakfast and lunch menus (dinner was fine, but not as consistant). We found dinner better at Montpelier and Hermitage plantation inns, but those hotels are more expensive and don't have the beach-setting and sunset views of Oualie Beach.

I wouldn't hesitate recommending Oualie Beach Resort to friends and family visitng Nevis, especially those traveling with children. We'll definitely be back in 2008!
