My wife and I recently stayed at the Montpelier Plantation Inn for the celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. She always likes to do things like cruises or beach resorts, whereas I usually prefer the types of vacations where there is history, golfing, hiking, that sort of thing. Initially I was pushing to go to Rhode Island and stay at one of our favorite B&Bs there, but she talked me into springing the extra money and going to Nevis. When we got there, I was pleasantly surprised. The place was absolutely gorgeous, and the rooms were to die for. Clean, crisp, and lacking televisions and children. Perfect. The staff was efficient and friendly, and gave us drinks and a tour of the property our first day. By the end of the first day everyone was on a first name basis, and that was amazing. These people have hundreds of guests come through a month, I am sure, and they made us feel like we were the most important people there. We enjoyed a lot of the things the inn had to offer, including massages in our rooms, a fantastic breakfast daily which was enough food to last us until suppertime, and the pool area was always a treat, and never crowded, and of course I golfed and enjoyed the wonderful people, history, and culture on the Island. I am not really a beach person, but the private beach they have was great. We ate at the resort all 5 nights, because I was so impressed after the first dinner there that I didn’t want to risk going elsewhere and being disappointed. We did venture out for lunch at a nearby restaurant two of the days, and the food was good, but couldn’t hold a candle to the gourmet meals we enjoyed nightly. Overall, the staff, the grounds, the food, the ambiance, the rooms, the pool, the beach, and every single other aspect of the resort was top notch in my book, and I am very thankful my wife found a place where both of us could enjoy things we loved doing on such a special occasion. My wife has already stated she wants to spend our 50th anniversary there as well, but I am certain we will not be waiting another 25 years to return to this dynamite destination.
